So intial thoughts on the mkIII, they are dam sharp. The knees and trims look very crisp. The feet don't seem to be quite the same shape as the resin, but still good. The helmets look great as do the shoulders. The bolters look well formed. Looks like two versions of the bare heads... I hate bare heads...
I had hoped they'd avoid doing the bewildering sculpted boob-plate thing with the Sisters of Silence. Come on, y'all, if one of those Sisters fell over she'd crush her own chest cavity with armour like that! That aside, everything's looking pretty great, and the boobplate probably won't stop me appreciating the Sisters models once I have them in-hand. I can see myself buying two or three of this box.
YES! Plastic MKIII and Custodes, SoS look sweet too. Oh brother, I thought the B&C was the boss, but now looks like my SM forces will grow by another 30 or so...
Now Forge World just need to make a breacher upgrade kit for these MKIIIs. Helmets, arms with shields, and lascutter and graviton guns. That would allow GW to not have to make breachers, and move on to Assault/Despoiler Marines. Hell, you could just add the close combat upgrades from FW and make these into despoilers. This is AMAZING! Only thing is I wish they hadn't put in the box game/set specific squads... namely the sisters and custodes, and the legion specific characters. THE main draw of BaC was that everything in the box was generic, so any legion could use the models. If you aren't making SW or TS, or aren't interested in Sisters and Custodes, this isn't AS GOOD a deal as BaC. Wish we'd gotten assault/despoiler and maybe heavy support. Just my thoughts.
I think a kind-of despoiler kit for MkII armour in plastic would make sense - with chainsword and boltpistol arms and boltguns for the backpacks (like the deathwatch has). That would allow for pure despoilers or tacticals/vets with all three options.
The information sent to retailers about it says there will be rules for both 30k and 40k games for the Custodes and the Sisters of Silence. There's scans of that leaflet floating about online, you can probably find it easily enough on facebook or google if you'd like to see for yourself.
30 Marines, yes. Pictures of the sprues showed up online this weekend - lot of bolters, but a lot more bolt pistols and chainswords than we saw in BaC. Reasonable number of swords, powerfists, lightning claws, etc as well. Not sure offhand about special/heavy weapons for the power armoured marines, I didn't see any. Might be more focused on tactical/despoiler instead of tactical/veteran this time.
Brilliant stuff, those Sisters and Custodians are excellent and the mk3 and Tartaros Termies are very well done also.
ReplyDeleteI'll take two thanks :)

ReplyDeleteThe Sisters are my favourite, especially those swords and that colour scheme!
ReplyDeleteYep! Although I may paint mine with red hair - gingers have no soul :P
DeleteYou have no soul either. You sold it to the painting God for mad skillz... Paint for the paint God, sable for the sable pillow.

ReplyDeleteSo much goodness! Not a fan of GW's gold painting but still some great models. And some awesome non knuckle duster lightning claws! Finally!

ReplyDeleteCome join the heresy Siph, you know you want too!

DeleteTotally agree on breacher upgrades!
DeleteWell, the Ultramarines ones (although made for Mk IV) should be out soonish :)
DeleteAny word whether these will come out with 30K and 40K rules during the release?

DeleteAre the marines the same as the B@C box set? In that it's 30 marines that can either be veterans or tactical marines.

DeleteThe terminators get heavy flamer, Autocannon, and PLASMA BLASTER. There's also one Volkite for them.
DeleteThe mkIII get a heavy bolter, melta and plasma. There are 10 Chainswords with no hands and 1 chainsword in a hand.
Agreed regarding the non Space Marine models. At least there's eBay
ReplyDeleteI feel that GW should replace the black citadel logo with a golden one, for we are surely entering into a new golden age with Games Workshop!
