As you know I’m doing a Siege Wall. I am getting closer to completion, so now I need to decide on a scheme and what paints to paint it.
So. If you were in my shoes how would you do it? I have an airbrush and a shop nearby which stocks Vallejo, Citadel paints etc etc. Obviously rubble will be added and it will be sealed with PVA first.
It isn’t stone. That’s one thing to be aware of. It would be ferrocrete.
I was thinking a grey sand colour, but am still so undecided.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

a crazy idea here, but white/light grey marble. It'd be a smooth texture and you could add in variation to all that blank space you have, and you have a air brush so it would be relatively fast compared to highlighting hundreds bricks or rivets or something else to break up the color.
ReplyDeleteGives it a bit of that roman/greek temple influence with a splash of Minas Tirith. you know how the pyramids were clad in nice stone with the stuff that remains underneath? Kinda like that. I think that would be how the walls looked on Terra, before Dorn got to em at least.
If you thinking a more generic industrial hive wall, then probably a more dark grey with some grimey leaky pipes or something would work to get some large variations.
Cool idea, but as I want to use these walls for Terra too eventually, Dorn as you say would have got at em’ by this point.
DeleteWhatever colour you can get cheap spray cans of... but to match the game mat, maybe a tan / khaki colour.
ReplyDeletePersonally I feel like if it matches the game mat too closely, it would be visually confusing. Maybe weather it in similar tones, but it needs some contrast. Especially since this is going to be a huge battlefield, so visual clarity from a good distance is key.
DeleteI think i would go for normal wall paint and a roller for base coverage. The roller will give a sligtly textured surface that can be drybrushed with a large brush later on. Only use the airbrush for details and shading around edges and crenelations. As for clor I would go for a mide tone grey base and use a ligt grey and white highligt. A slightly darker grey than the base for air brushing. Then use sandcolors around the base for weathering and dirt. I think you need to look at this more like furniture than minis due to the scale. It will be interesting to see how it turns out. Keep it up, you are almost done.
DeleteCheers guys. I think most will be done with an airbrush with sandy dust at the bottom of the walls.
