Forge World using 3d printing.

Hi all.
No model time recently sadly but thought I would share with you one of the interesting things I learned this Openday. Forge World has started using 3d printing to develop its models. Sorry if this is old news but thought I would share what I learnt. Speaking to 3 different designers I learnt that they have started using this technology to make the original master model that they then take casts from. 2 Tau Riptide size models and the new Lancer Knight are examples of this. They had access to the 3d cad sculpt from the Games Workshop range and so were accurately and easily able to create 3d modification parts for these kits or in the Lancers case totally remix and tweak. Blake Spence even used several components of 3d printing on his new board and another is planning a whole range of well known Knight houses' Heraldic shields.
At the moment the speed of 3d printing means it is not possible to create whole a whole knight in less than 35 hours (if I recall), so casting is still the way they will keep going with it.

Exciting times ahead.

So the new Extermination book is £70

The Krios is £68

The Falchion is £165! That is more expensive than the other Super Heavies.

New Complex tiles are £90 each.

Collectors edition, Krios and maybe 3 Basilisks for me. Need to start getting the Iron warriors ready for artillery support.

Forge World Openday previews flooding in.

First off we have the Falchion.

The Falchion uses a potent weapon which combines technologies fielded in the Fellblade and the Shadowsword super-heavy tank. The Falchion’s twin-mounted Volcano cannon is one of the most powerful vehicle-mounted, anti-tank weapons in the Imperium’s arsenal and it requires such an investment in resources to construct just a single example that its use is limited to the Legiones Astartes. Even then, the Falchion is so rare that most Legions maintain but a handful, reserved for use against the largest of enemy war machines.

The Falchion was developed long before the outbreak of the Horus Heresy and as such its prey was not the enemy Titans it would later see such extensive combat against. As the Great Crusade expanded ever outward, the Expeditionary fleets encountered a staggering array of foes, some of whom were of a truly gargantuan scale, but all were set to ravening flame by the touch of the Falchion’s Volcano cannon.

Bet it will look excellent in Iron Warrior colours.

two new Cityscape tiles too.

In a galaxy where conflict is commonplace, Imperial architecture is often by necessity fortified against possible attack. Should the Alien, the Traitor or the Heretic attempt to assault an Imperial world, more often than not it is the great cities of humanity that become battlegrounds. Large industrial facilities are transformed into key objectives, with generatorum nexus' becoming vital sources of power and manufactorum sectors providing much-needed supplies or raw materials.

It will be an expensive Sunday now. We will be reporting on the Openday on the fly as always. Last year we were the first to bring you the Battle of Phall and Lorgar at Gamesday. Follow us on Facebook and don't forget to come visit us on Sunday!
