More Fists!!!!

Hi all.

I have finally found some free time since the Forge World Open day to play with some of them new stuff I brought.

Once again I went though everything and washed them, as you can see from the picture above.

These models include Sigismund, 2 Tactical Support squads, 1 with flamers and 1 with Volkite. A Recon squad with sniper rifles and finally a Heavy Weapon squad with heavy bolters.

As you can properly tell, these with be added to my Imperial Fists, a project which I can not wait to start and I am already thinking about my next purchase lol

Favourite Battle Scenes

Hi all

I was listening to Episode 21 of the Imperial Truth podcast and I came up with an idea for a post. Like on the podcast, they gave their top 5 battle scenes in the Horus Heresy, I have asked my fellow battle bunnies for their favourite scenes.

I will warn you that there will be spoilers in this post, however before any spoilers are given, we will say what book the scram we are talking about in first. So if you chose to, you can skip any scenes from books that you have not read yet.

Targel Vypus

Unremembered Empire
Narek of the Word Bearers showing his true colours.
This is by far one of my favourite books with so much cool things to choose from, however I have picked when Narek of the Word Bearers kills he to possessed Word Bearer companions in order to pursue his own personal goals. I think it's really cool to have a space marine who has his own agenda and I really interested in how his story pans out.

The First Heretic
Custodian Vendatha fighting for his life against the Word Bearers in the ritual chamber.  The way it describes how Vendatha kills the first 4 kills in 3 seconds is just fantastic and really makes me not able to wait for when Forge World do the Custodian army list. Makes you feel sorry for the Thousand Sons lol.

Outcast dead
The first encounter with the thunder warrior and he kicks some major space marine arse. It the first time really that space marines, all be it poorly equipped ones, have been seriously outmatched but 1 guy. Really looking forward in see what happens next with them.

Horus Rising
Dual between Loken and Lucius.
By this point Lucius was becoming a character you love to hate, and him getting his face punched by the less skilled Loken to prove a point really put a smile on my face. I also believe that this was really the start of Lucius's path of perfection and self mutilation.

Mechanicum
Imperator Titan's demise
I may shock a few people here but I am not really a fan of this book. Although I have to admit that I found the part where the Imperator Titan melts into the Larva. It just shows that even the largest machine or war is still no match to mother nature.

Khall Sithis

1. Scars
On the surface of Prospero the Khan and his honour guard face off against Mortarion and his Death Shroud. Primarch vs Primarch and terminator Vs terminator. Epic.

2. Horus Rising
The Emperor's Children fight against the tenacious Megarachnids in hostile terrain. Tarvitz and Lucius help save the day and rally the troops.

3. Promethean Sun
the Salamander legion fight against primitive Eldar in a tough battle that includes dinosaurs!!

4. Unremembered Empire
the wolf pack sent to watch Guilliman find themselves protecting the hearth from Konrad Curze. In an epic conclusion, Vulkan rushes his treacherous brother and they smash through a window to the street below.

5. Fulgrim
the battle of Laer. Imagining ancient Rylanor fighting in the streets as the 1st Company works its way towards the Primarch and his Phoenix Guard. Very cool.

Drake Seta

Betrayer.
 Armatura.
The Ultramarine Shield wall trying to hold against the Fury of the World Eaters. Sounds brutal and furious.

Vulkan Lives.
 Isstvan V.
The Salamanders coming against the Death Guard in the trenches. The chemical warfare and the Thunderhawks flying over sounds awesome.

Prince of Crows.
1st Legion Flagship.
The Night Lords board Johnsons Flagship and take the fight to the first Legion. The way Sevatar arrives on that Starfighter and rampaged through the Hallways to get to the Atramentar makes Sevatar my favourite Heresy Character ever.

Prospero Burns.
Prospero.
The Vlka Fenryka raze Prospero to the ground. Titans, Landers, Sisters of Silence and Custodes join with the Wolves of Fenris to Sanction Magnus the red. The running battles are epic and the Wolves prove unstoppable.

Prospero Burns.
The Vlka Fenryka attend a Warzone and watch and wait as the Imperial Army struggles to defeat the Cuiatude. They Wolves are given permission to take the World and drop a space station on their enemies. They then are unleashed and nothing survives. Shows how a smaller Legion can conduct its battles.

Darko Thane

Galaxy in Flames
Isstvan 3
The duel between Loken and Abaddon was a favourite of mine in that book but my favourite part is where just as it looked like hope was lost a tank bursts in through the walls. Loved that part as it is a massive interruption that I don't think many were expecting, including me.

A Thousand Sons
Aghoru
The battle between the Thousand Sons and the Titan from the mountain. Where Magnus struts up and unleashes all hell and fury of his psyker-ness and annihilates the titan. I liked this scene as it firsts demonstrated to me the absolute power wielded by Magnus and correctly demonstrates what it means to be a God in Battle

Butcher's Nails
Space battle
Where Angron has enough of the xenos vessels and releases the Ursus Claws and uses them to bring in the ships for a close encounter assault. Can easily picture Angron licking his lips as the ships were being brought in and I enjoy the barbaric tactics in war and this being one of them

Please comment below with you thoughts and also your favourite scenes.

Also if you are a fan of the Horus Heresy, I would strongly suggest listening to the Imperial Truth podcast. The podcast covers all aspects of the Horus Heresy including gaming, the fluff and modelling.

Imperial Fists contemptor including weapons
Various Imperial Fists shoulder pads, heads and torsos.

Mechanicum Scyllax Guardian-automata Covenant experimental rules

Hi all

As I'm sure you know from our post earlier today, Forge World have opened up preorders for the Mechanicum Scyllax Guardian-automata Covenant. Forge World have also been kind enough to provide us with some experimental rules for this amazing looking models.  I was hoping to go through some of these rules and give my first impressions.

First of all, as you can see from their stat line, with a toughness of 5, 2 wounds and a 4+ armour save, we can tell that this models should be pretty resilient to most normal attacks. With a unit size from 4 to a maximum of 16, I'm sure that fighting these guys with anything other than some seriously strong fire power will seem like wadding through treacle.

Now let's have a look at their weapons. In close combat, you can choose to ether attack at base strength, AP 5 which the opportunity for even more attacks, or you can do less, more powerful attacks at ap2. This shows that they are somewhat flexible when fighting different opponents, which is always good.

Also any unit in close combat against a Scyllax suffer -1 to their toughness. This for me is pretty huge. The Scyllax are also resilient to poison and rad-phage, only being wounded on a 6.

For a ranged attack, the Scyllax just have a slightly longer range Bolter and AP4. Combine this with Relentless and they can do some damage if within 7-12" of an enemy unit in one turn.

So overall, I think these guys are going to be pretty cool to use and are obviously more suited to close combat. I for one will properly pick a pack of these at the Warhammer World grand opening in May. But what I am interested in are you thoughts on these so make sure you comment below.

Take care :-)

Word Bearers during the Great Crusade

Hi all

As some of you may know, I am doing a pre heresy Word Bearer army. However, when it has come to trying to find a way to make the army list Forge World have given us fit in the Great Crusade, I have been a bit stuck. A lot of the special rules that the Word Bearer list has which makes them unique, are rules that they would not have had during the Great Crusade.

So as a result of this I wanted to discuss these rules with you and and hopefully see if you guys could come up with some appropriate alternatives . I'll start off with the generic rules for the Word Bearers which I believe can not be used in the Great Crusade and then move onto some of the character specific rules.

The Diabolist
This is the legions own Consul type who has already become engulfed in the unholy lore of Chaos. With this in mind, I am pretty sure that this guy is a no go for Great Crusade. What I don't know however is if there a different Consul that the Word Bearer should have during the Great Crusade?

Dark Channelling
This is the rule that you can give most Word Bearer squads where you took a d6 to see what upgrade the squad gets. This is because the power of the warp is bound to the individuals armour.

Burning Lore
This is an optional upgrade for some Word Bearer Consul which turns them into a Level 1 Psyker. This is because of warp-tainted incarnations inscribed upon their amour.

Tainted Weapon
This is an optional upgrade for a Word Bearer with the option to take a power weapon. Even though it does not specifically say what these are, I would say a good guess would be that the weapon it tainted somehow by the warp.

Word Bearer Rite of War
All except one of the effects the Word Bearers get by following the Rite of War are not able to be used in Great Crusade. These include preferred enemy against loyalists, the ability to ally with Daemons and perils of the warp tests taken by the opposing force gain the instant death special rule.

Gal Vorbak Dark Brethren
I'm sure I don't need to mention that there is now way I can use these in Great Crusade.

High Chaplin Erebus
As well as Zealot and Burning Lore, Erebus also has the Marked by Dark Fates and Harbringer of Chaos. The Harbringer of Chaos just allows someone using Erebus the have access to Dark Channelling and may ally with Daemons. But with Marked by Dark Fates this means that where character casualties  and injury between battles is a factor, you may re-roll results for Erebus. To be honest, I have never really done a campaign where this would be applicable so I don't really know how beneficial this could be.

Kor Phaeron.
The only rules that Kor has which I believe can not be used is Burning Lore and Harbringer of Chaos

Lorgar
Lorgar for me is pretty simple. I think all should be ok with using Lorgar during the Great Crusade apart form the upgrade of transfiguring him.

So as you can see, there is quite a lot of benefits that the Word Bearers have that you can not use if you chose to use them in the Great Crusade, however does taking these away make the Word Bearers at a disadvantage? And if so, what amendments can be made to make them a compatible force? Should we just lower some point values or give them alternative rules?

Please share your thoughts below on the above questions as I am finding it quite hard to find a viable way to use Word Bearers during the Great Crusade.

Thank you and take care :-)

Samus is here!!!!

Yes that's right, Samus has made an appearance at the Horus Heresy Weekender.

As you can see, this model is an absolute beast. The detail looks incredible.

Can't wait to see his rules.

The Fists are coming!!!

Hi all

So today I woke up to find that Forge World have released something I have been looking forward to since I saw them previewed at Warhammer Fest. Yes that's right, the Imperial Fists special units, the Phalanx Warder squad and the Templar Brethren.

My initial thoughts on these is that Forge World have really outdone themselves, and for one can not wait to get my hands on some. In fact it is taking quite a lot of will power and self control not to just stop doing my Word Bearers and just move onto the Imperial Fists lol

As you can see, instead of having all the parts in the pack, you will get an upgrade kit. I'm not sure if I prefer this as surly it would mean that we would end up with loads of spare parts? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Take care :-)

My second heavy weapon squad

 Hi all.

I have yet another squad to show you guy/girls. With the few battles I have had with my Word Bearers, it was clear to me that I needed more units that have the capability of taking down armour. So I decided to do a 5 man Lasscannon squad. I hope you like :-)

Please comment below on your opinions and also what other unit you think I should do.

Word Bearers Heavy Support Squad

Hi all

I am very happy to shear with you guys/girls a new squad I have recently completed.

As you can see, they are a 5 man Heavy Support Squad with missile launchers. These models were very straight forward to complete, and in comparison to my 40 Tactical marines, these were very quick, which was a nice change for me :-),

I am now planing on completing a second Heavy Support Squad very soon so watch this space :-)

Word Bearer Contemptor wip

Hi all

I would like to show you what I have been doing lately. I have made quite a lot of progress with my word bearer contemptor. I am really enjoying painting this model and it is a good change from marine after marine lol
I really like the way the gold is looking in contrast to the granite grey armour.

All I really have to do are the weapons and a few of the small details which really shouldn't take me long.

Let me know what you think in the comments down below.

Take care :-)

How do you like your heresy?

Hi all

Us bunnies have decided to share with you our favourite Horus heresy outlet. So this could be anything from another blog to a podcast, or even just a website. So here they are.

Khall Sithis

I enjoy reading Natfka as I feel it is a good hub for the community. I like the rumours and check back regularly throughout the day. Natfka covers many game systems and I find all of them very appealing. It isn't just about GW and I like to see the variety in the industry. I like to think of myself as a gamer who wants to try the majority of these games and the coverage on Natfka tempts me more and more to branch out. Heresy will always be my number 1 though due to the Primarchs :)

Drake Seta

I am a fan of the Chap in Australia that runs "The Painting Bunker" blog. His Painting skills are always a great thing to see, he documents every project with a swathe of Hi-Res photos. I think he is 100/100 when it comes to terrain and boards, with his  Forge World Cityscape boards and Anphellion scenery a heavy inspiration for our terrain. He runs excellent Horus Heresy Campaigns and has a stunning World Eater army.
I consider him to be one of the truest hobbyists in the history of the Hobby as a whole. Please check out his site.

Targel Vypus

I am a huge fan of the After Ullanor podcast as I feel the book reviews they do for the Horus Heresy are extremely good. The 2 guys who host the podcast always go into great detail about the books and they remain professional throughout while not giving away any spoilers from future books. This helps jog my memory on parts that I have have forgotten and also sometimes things that I may have missed completely when I read the books myself. I do listen to other podcasts, however this is the one that as soon as a new episode comes out, I stop whatever I am listening to in order to listen to it

Mega Nob

I really like lexicanum as it contains really detailed info on all the characters, alliances and pretty much everything else you could want from a wiki site. For a fluff nazi like me it's ideal

Darko Thane

Great Crusade on invision is a good site as it is a good forum where you can pick up some good painting tips and also get to have some good debates about stories. They are a bit old and they haven't posted in a while on some of the sections but the forums do show some good pointers and the people on there are friendly when it comes to debates about legions and stories I.e there's a good contemplation about the timing of black legion for example. They also have many sections for battles and tutorials so it is great for hobbyists of all experiences

I hope you have found this useful and maybe you'll enjoy some of the above and maybe comment below with your favourites.

Word Bearer update

Hi all

I just thought I'd share with you where I currently am at with my Pre-heresy Word Bearers and what my plans are for the next few months. So let's get started.

Lorgar

I have completed the main part of Lorgar. The only bits I still have to do is his base and the diorama stand that he comes with. I know there there people who are not too fond of the bases that come with the Primarchs, but the way I see it why wouldn't you want prober lot the most important model in you army stand out when it's in the display cabinet?

Erebus and Kor Phaeron

This is the same as Lorgar. I have completed the model but just need to do the base.

I have not made a start with Kor as I am planing on getting some terminators to accompany him into battle.

Once both of these are complete, I will again complete the diorama base that comes with them.

Ashen Circle

I have completed my first 5 Ashen Circle and I have had a chance to use then in a battle, and let's just say I am very happy with the way they chipped and sliced their way through some Word Eaters. As a result if this, I am very keep to get at least another 5 of these beautiful models.

Troops

I have completed in total 38 tactical marines, 2 of which are Sergeants. I am currently working though a word bearer shoulder pads for each of these. Which even thought I do really like them, they are becoming a bit if a pain to do so many in one go.

I have recently acquired 20 assault marines for which I have not started yet but I aim to do 2 squads of 10

Heavy Support

I have 10 Heavy Support marina which will be 2 5 man squads, 1 of which will have lasscannons and the other one with be equipped with missile launcher . All I have managed to complete of these are their body's  and the missile launchers. So I still have quite a way to go with these.

Elites

The only elites I have started is my contempter dreadnought, which u have only started because I for my shoulder pads one day, but I must say, it was a glad to be able to do something different lol. I managed to complete all the interior metal bits.

For those if you who has seen my previous post, I have also complete a 5 man veteran squad. I plan for these to hopefully accompany my warlord where appropriate.

So that's it for all of the stuff I have currently started, however I also have a rapier cannon, fellblade and a storm eagle. These will more then likely be the last models I start for my word bearers, and I am even contemplating holding the fellblade back until I start a certain yellow legion. What do you guys think?

And top of all that, the new dark eldar stuff is very tempting but I will try and get a sizeable force before a re visit them.

So that's it from me. Please comment below on your thoughts on what I have done so far and also what you should think I should tackle next.

Thank you and take care :-)

Word Bearer Characters

Hi all

With the coming campaign just round the corner, I would like to share with you guys what characters I am planing on doing for my word bearers, and maybe get a little advise.

Now I would be stupid not to use the characters that forge world have been nice enough to do for me, so Erebus and Kor Phaeron will be making appearances. So that just leaves two more to do.

Since I am not very good or a fan of just making new people up, I done some research to try and fine some reasonably unknown characters that would have played a big part in the pre heresy word bearers. I came across some 2 people that I found quite intriguing. Halik-gar and Maedro Vessar. Both of these are mentioned in the forge world Horus Heresy books.

Halik-gar
It states that Halik-gar was the High Herald of the legion and the commander before they were reunited with Lorgar. So straight away I was interested. It also states that a Herald was clad in black armour, his face hidden by a skull helm and bearing the eagle-winged mace. Now remember earlier when I said that I was looking for a little advise? The reason for this is because I am very inexperienced with playing Space Marines, so I was  looking for advise in what kind of HQ this guy should be and what should I equip him with, are there any eagle-winged maces you know off?

Maedro Vessar
For this guy, it just states that he is an iconoclast. Now I'm not sure if this just refers to the fact he is a word bearer as the legions informal name is the Iconoclast, or whether it is referring to the commander or an Ashen Circle squad, also know as an Iconoclast. Which that in mind I though it would be a good idea to have a HQ who could be a leader of the Ashen Circle. So this guy would need to have a jump pack, but the rest could really be anything. So again, what kind of HQ do you think this guy should be and which what equipment?

Please comment below as I would much appreciate to know what you guys think.

Thank you and take care :-)

Erebus is here to spread the Emperor's word

Si vis pacem, para bellum

If you want peace, prepare for war!!!

He is finally here, the first Chaplin of the word bearers, Erebus.

I have really loved painting this guy. Firstly because I think the model is stunning with so much detail. And secondly because this guy is by far my favourite character in the Horus heresy.

In a battle, I will more than likely put him I a squad with a squad of close combat veterans. However, since they are not quite finished, here are some pictures of him with a squad of  tactical marines. Hope you enjoy :-)

I would also like to share with you a new piece of Horus Heresy art form Black Library. This is the cover for an upcoming novel called Legacies of Betrayal. This picture is really a who's who of Horus Heresy bad guys. How many can you name? Comment below

The Ashen Circle will make the galaxy burn!!!!

Hi all

I have finally finished my 5 man Ashen Circle squad. Overall I am really happy with how they have turned out, and I believe that they are a good stepping stone to move onto tackling Erebus and Lorgar. I have followed the same paint scheme as my previous grey Word bearers so refer to that post for full details.

Here are some pics of them on a battlefield. Now I just can not wait to see how they would do in a battle.

Let me know what you think in the comments below and also if you have any questions

Tune in tomorrow for our Death Guard vs Emperor's Children Legion Battle report.

Pre-Heresy Word Bearers 3000pts

Hi all

For those of you who remember, I posted up a list for my first Pre-Heresy Word Bearers a little while ago. However, I now have an updated list of 3000pts to show share with you.

The reason I have made some adjustments is firstly to utilise the models I already have without having to purchase too much more, and also I have been given the challenge to have 3000pts ready for July as I will be participating in a campaign written by one of our very own battle bunnies. So here is the list I came up with:

Legion Praetor: Power Weapon; Plasma Pistol; Melta-bombs; Digital lasers 150

4 Incendiaries: + 1 Iconclast (Inferno pistol; Power Axe; Artificier Armour; frag grenades; krak grenades, Jump Pack; Melta Bombs (sgt only); 2 Phosphex bomb) 225

1 Legion Contemptor Deadnought: Twin-linked Autocannon; DCCW Heavy Flamers; Havoc Launcher 205

1 Rapier Carrier 40 heavy bolter

4 Veteran Legionaire: Volkite Charger (1:5); 4× Power Weapon; Special Rule: Furious Charge; + 1 Legionaire Sergeant (Thunder Hammer; Artificier armour; frag grenades; krak grenades) 205

19 Legionaire: + 1 Legionaire Sergeant (power weapon; Artificier armour; frag grenades; krak grenades) 270

19 Legionaire: + 1 Legionaire Sergeant (combi-melta; Artificier armour; frag grenades; krak grenades) 270

Legion Storm Eagle Assault Gunship: Twin-linked Multi-melta; 2 Wing Twin-linked Lascannons 265

4 Heavy Support Legionaire: 4× Lascannon; + 1 Space Marine Sergeant (Lascannon; Artificier armour; frag grenades; krak grenades; Augury Scanner) 250

4 Heavy Support Legionaire: 4× Missile Launcher; + 1 Space Marine Sergeant (Missile Launcher (F and K); Artificier armour; frag grenades; krak grenades; Augury Scanner) 175

Primarch Lorgar Aurellian 375

Legion Fellblade Super-Heavy Tank: Armoured Ceramite; Pintle twin-linked Bolter; Space Marine Legion crew (BS4) 570

Firstly I would like to point out that the Praetor is meant to be a stand-in for a Pre-Heresy Erebus. The reason for this is because we had to find a way of having Erebus without all of his psychic daemon powers, and this was the closest we could come to.

I tried to make this list to be aimed at fighting xenos, as that is what the great crusade was all about, with lots of weapons that cause a lot of wounds, at not nessaserly a the hight strength or low Ap that you would need to fight power armour. Also I should add that the veterans would be with Erebus and Lorgar in the Storm Eagle, on certain battles but not so much as to make it overused.

I am really looking forward to completing this list and I will give you guys/girls regular updates with pictures once I have completed each squad.

Let me know what you think, and if you would build the list any different. Also if you have you own Word Bearer list then please share below in the comments.

Take care :-)

Pre-Heresy Word Bearers

Hi all

The time has finally come for me to show you my first Pre-Heresy Word Bearers tac squad and also tell you the paint scheme I used.

So, first of all, I air brushed Mechanicus standard grey thinned with Lahmian Medium.

Then I wash all the armour with Agrax earthshade thinned with Lahmian Medium

Next, I lightly sponged on Dawnstone followed by a second wash of Agrax earthshade.

Then I done all of the bolts on the armour and the metal bits on the backpack in Ironbreaker.

For the eyes, I done Warpstone glow followed by Coelia greenshade.

Finally with the boltguns, I done the clip and part of the main body of the gun Ironbreaker and the bullets I painted bronze.

Here is a picture of my completed squad. I have equipped the sergeant with a bolt pistol and a power maul to go along with the fluff of the Word Bearers.

Please comment below with what you guys think. A post with my completed Ashen Circle will follow very shortly.

Take care :-)
