  3. Was about to post myself. Skittarii leaks are up on Feait including weapon stats etc.
the models are for me genuinely underwhelming.
For anyone that has read Titanicus by Dan Abnett don't expect Lau and his epic legion of combat orientated limb gun toting beasts, or Sonne's faithful body guards like Karsh and Lux88. Expect their tech priest cultist looking poor wimpy half cousins.....
    Such a disappointment :(

    1. I like them and do see their resemblance to Cultists. They also seem quite Solar Auxilia like which is cool. We all knew FW were not allowed to do them because GW had their Mits on them, but they have said there will be Skitarii that they want to do which hopefully be more like Abnetts ones.
Expect an Adeptus Mechanicum Imperial Armour hopefully within the year as I'm sure they will want their models and Ordinatus as part of a 40k army.

  4. I was just hoping for the 'real deal' I guess. The aesthetic painted in words by Dan Abnett has them pretty much the size of marines and equally intimidating, especially Lau with his threat armour and Praetorian Huscarls smashing through the enemy.
I guess I was expecting more. Let's hope FW get free reign to 'fill/bridge the gap' and sculpt something a bit more gizzly bear esque instead of teddy bear like. Lol

    1. I was really hyped for this release... but now youve mentioned the teddy bear thing and there masks actually look like that lol, at least the one in the middle does. I'm still pumped tbh I think a dark and gritty Forge World style paintjob will work wonders.

    2. Forge World have mentioned the Praetorian type Skitarii before in the past when they stated they will be releasing types of Skitarii. So Hopefully :)

  5. Those walkers and troops are absolutely gorgeous as far as I'm concerned, one of the best looking forces so far that GW have produced and right up there with FW's models for me.
I can see them working beautifully alongside a knight household or Mechanicus force.

  6. I think for the masses that have been waiting, this release will slake that thirst. The rules and stats look pretty good, and as mentioned they'll bring something different to a Knight Army as stand-in household troops, or an allied detachment to an Astra Minitorum force.
But for me personally I was expecting the hulking brutes I've been reading of.
That doesn't detract from the quality of the minis or their stats.
Just not the aesthetic I was looking for. As 40K tech thralls they fit the fluff really well, just not as Skitarii

    1. my guess is that we'll get atleast some praetorians or other "heavier" skitarii either from GW or FW ;) these are just the releases of the first week :P

  7. Lets not forget that FW have been quite clear that the 40k Adeptus Mechanicus and 30k Mechanicum are very different beasts; the secrets to create the hulking monstrosities of 30k may be long lost by the 41st millenium.
That said, I expect to start seeing some pretty rapid crossover, probably with add-on packs for these dudes to turn them into different unit types, heads, weapons etc. I'd also like to see them in an Imperial Armour book sooner rather than later. A campaign with a Mechanicus/Imperial expedition to reclaim a long-lost/isolated forge world still building nigh-heretical warmachines would seem an easy sell, with Mechanicus units on both sides plus Space Marines (Minotaurs or Red Scorpions, anyone....?) and 40k rules for the 30k mechanicum units, maybe with some tweaks (like cut the size of units and bump some of the points costs if needed).

    I'd buy it! :)

    1. That would be all good. Except that Titanicus which I'm basing my Aesthetic wishes on if you like is from 40K set during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade not, 30K. :)
Unfortunately I don't see FW rushing to create styled packs etc for add-obs for this army personally.
Especially as they've got somewhat bogged down, and we've still only seen one set of Knight up-grade shoulder plates/armour for one house.
I do share your enthusiasm for an Imp Armour book brining in some aspects of the Ad Mech lists already presented for 30K in a 40K scenario. I just think that's a way down the FW pecking order. :D

    2. I thought that too, but apparently the rules for the new Ordinatus engine are not going to appear in Tempest, which means in my opinion (and to sell more models :D ) that FW will be releasing an IA this year featuring the Adeptus Mechanicus - not Mechanicum as rightly pointed out above, as they are very different things, hopefully for Warhammer Fest. It would include units which are now considered relics in 40k (1 in an army etc).

    3. Arkangel: I also see what u mean about it being Abnett's Skitarii type. Top of my head I think they are described similarly in Know no fear. Any other mentions of Skitarii in 30k? Think Betrayer and Deliverence lost has them, sure there must be more.
      + Titanicus was incredible.

    4. Well if they do release an IA that would be awesome. Ordinatus level war machines are definitely another group of minis after Knights that have always held the imagination of anyone that's played Space Marine/Epic/Epic 40K in any of its incarnations.
Bring back the Capitol Imperialis and the Hell-Bore I say lol ;)
      Even termites would be awesome.

  8. Know No Fear for sure. Yes again it's Dan Abnetts take but I think it's fair to say he's turned a lot of old concepts into up-to-date cannon. I've been fortunate to speak to him on several occasions and he spoke of how proud he is of the fact that he's responsible for a lot of cannon and words etc that are now part of the 40K/30K history/universe.
Anyone that's gets a tick in the box to reveal half the Heresy stuff he has in his books has got to be a Legend ;D

    1. That's true. He is a bit awol at the moment which is sad but McNeil can knock out some belters, but Aaron D Bowden is my favourite. His stuff is always gold.

    2. I'm not sure why he's awol...However I'm really digging John French. I know this is a bit tangent to the thread but his work has been brilliant. I'm also a huge fan of James Swallow for whom without our favoured Knight Errant wouldn't have a name and just be another SM Captain from an old story of the RT era HH tales. Stand up Mr Swallow take a bow.
Also I have to Credit ADB for his awesome representation of the Custodes in First Heretic.
They rocked in that book. Probably one of my other favourite characters on the fringe without a doubt is Constantin Valdor. He's going to be a BIG player as the HH comes to a close. :D

The models being shown do resemble the 4th edition of 40k's design. So I guess we'll done.

    1. Definitely. It's the exact representation I expected of 'Tech-Guard'. I was just hoping for some Collegia Titanica Skitarii ;P

  10. Do we know if these kind of Skitarii were around in the heresy? I really want to add to my mechanicum force.

    1. Technically not yet. I do imagine they are though due to the rumoured eventual Age of Darkness Games Workshop Ruleset. I don't think GW would be making a Skitarii force which couldn't be used in Heresy. But the Codex Skitarii will clear this up in a week or twos time when we can actually look at the timeline of battles.

    2. Yeah it does seem to much of a missed oportunity pn there part.. but this GW. It makes sense in my head though because FW have not done Skitarii, so I guess this was the reason unless they are playing down there importance, we will just have to wait and see I guess.
