Thousand Sons - Throne of Skulls Review

Hi all,

Our team up of Thousand Sons and Solar Auxilia ("Athanean Rhapsody") unfortunately ended up not winning a single game at the Throne of Skulls event last weekend.

This surprised us quite a lot as I think overall the list we took worked alright - a couple games there were clear cut winners whilst others it went right down to the wire and I'm pleased to say that we enjoyed every one. There were some really fantastic lists - such as the World Eaters and Iron Warriors pure infantry list we played in our first game which highlighted how terrifying the World Eaters can be when they have long range back-up and the Talons of the Emperor and Alpha Legion list in our final gamd which I quite liked as that was the first time I've seen Sisters of Silence on the field combined with Alpha Legion forcing us onto the backfoot with some clever infiltrations.

If you've considered going to a Horus Heresy event at Warhammer World but have been put off by the idea that people will bring win at all costs style armies, don't be too worried about that and come and play! These aren't like grand tournaments so you don't see many armies like that, the community is fantastic and do it for the love of the hobby and the setting. We lost every game this time but we still very much enjoyed it and we will definitely be back for the next Throne of Skulls whenever that will be!

Now, despite this, I'm going on a bit of a gamer focused tangent as this was the first time I really played Thousand Sons (my first game with them was on Friday afternoon to refamiliarise myself with the psychic phase!), I'm going to do a critique of the units and how I played them and what I'd do differently now that I've got a better feel of the army rules - its one thing to know the effects of things but actually experiencing in a game is quite another (failing self-inflicted pinning tests in the psychic phase really hurts!!!). Before I dive in proper, here is a reminder of the army list:

HQ:

Legion Centurion (Delegatus) - "Galileo" (the Lord Marshell in the Solar Aux force is called "Figaro")
 - Artificer Armour
 - Refractor Shield
 - Psychic Mastery Lvl 1
 - Arcane Litanies
 - Force Axe
 - Cult Arcana: Athanean
 - Master of the Legion (Chosen Duty)

Troops:

Legion Veteran Tactical Squad
 - 10 men
 - 2 heavy bolters with suspensor webs
 - Sergeant (Artificer Armour, Power Sword)
 - Vexilla
 - Melta-bombs
 - Psychic Mastery Lvl 1
 - Cult Arcana: Athanean - Rhino

Legion Veteran Tactical Squad
 - 10 men
 - 2 heavy bolters with suspensor webs
 - Sergeant (Artificer Armour, Power Sword)
 - Vexilla
 - Melta-bombs
 - Psychic Mastery Lvl 1
 - Cult Arcana: Athanean - Rhino

Legion Tactical Support Squad
 - 10 men
 - Volkite calivers
 - Additional close combat weapons
 - Cult Arcana: Athanean - Sergeant (Artificer Armour, Power Sword)

Heavy Support:

Sicaran Omega Tank Destroyer (no upgrades)

I'll start with my Sicaran Omega Tank Destroyer - I got this tank because it looked really cool but I think I gave it way less credit than it really deserved. Don't get me wrong, I think there are definitely better tank destroyers than this one but this wasn't a slouch when it came to making an impact early game. My main problem is that I brought it as a "distraction carnifex" but really it was just a "carnifex" - whenever I lost it (turn 1 normally, otherwise definitely gone by the end of turn 2) I really missed it as my army lacked that punch. Given my experience with this tank, the changes introduced in book 8 (aka, making it cheaper and also able to squadron up) make so much sense and I think you really need to make use of squadrons to get the best out of them.

My volkite squad was effective but not in the way I was expecting it to be - it took out a World Eater Assault Squad in close combat! In terms of their actual purpose though they were ok - I think a more complimentary Cult Arcana would have really helped them out here (a.k.a. Corvidae) as they were a very static, sit and hold an objective unit. Overall, they were useful and effective but more often than not i needed them to be filling another role instead - I may have been better taking something else instead such as a squad of terminators and have my Delegatus join that unit instead.

My Delegatus was pretty good whenever I needed him to step up to swing a combat in our favour but ultimately was anchored to the volkite squad due to my army composition - in hindsight, I would have made room for him to join one of the veteran tactical squads and maybe give them apothecaries too or otherwise as mentioned before put the Delegatus in with a terminator squad and advance them up the table with the rhinos.

My veteran tacticals were great - I would change their loadout a bit though. I found that I seldom needed the meltabombs (I simply wasn't getting up the field quick enough to be decisive with them and we had other more options to cover that role) and probably would have been better off with extra armour on the rhino and asphyx shells on them to improve the quality of their shooting. Corvidae would also help here (as they have access to Divination rather than the cult rule itself) but I didn't really regret choosing Athanean as them having access to Psychic Scream helped them punch above their weight against high toughness units.

I found that with my army, I had quite a low risk of getting a Perils of the Warp and it only happened three times over the weekend:

  1. Galileo had a perils once when manifesting Psychic Scream and negated it with his arcane litanies
  2. Galileo's unit was shot with psyke-out grenades causing two Perils, one negated, one not but as he was fearless that game and my veterans were in their rhinos it had no effect as they autopassed their pinning tests
  3. Veteran Tactial squad caused a Perils - this then caused the other veteran tactical squad and Galileo to be pinned; the original squad was fine as it was in a rhino at the time but that got blown up and then they failed a pinning check for that so they ended up being pinned too which was hilarious and deserved :P
Very much feels like a low chance but high impact rule, I was expecting it to happen more frequently than it did but not be as impactful; getting pinned in your own psychic phase is utterly devastating as the effects last until the end of your following turn!

All in all, I really enjoyed the army and I want to do more with it. I feel I made my list like it was one of my Imperial Fists infantry lists and expected it to do as well as them. Its not how they roll and I'm looking forward to the hobby challenges I have and the weird and wonderful things I can do with the Sons of Prospero which I haven't really been able to do with my Fists or World Eaters!

Until next time!

Throne of Skulls - Assault on Angelus Minor

Hi all,

I thought I would take a break from talking about my Death Guard this week and focus my attention on the upcoming Throne of Skulls.

This will be the second gaming event I have attended, the first being earlier this year with Ikthelion at the Heresy Doubles.

I'm planning on taking my budding Thousand Sons force if it can get 2000 points assembled, painted and made ready for war in time.  Historically, my normal gaming opponents are Ikthelion and Darien, with very much an emphasis on fun, narrative gaming.

My force was originally focussed on an escalation style Zone Mortals campaign, so my available models are somewhat skewed towards this.  I've poured over the event pack and it's clear Warhammer World want the games to be fun and friendly as opposed to ultra competitive/win at all costs.  The realist in me though is a bit worried I'm going to get kerb stomped in every game by super competitive lists/titans - bringing back rather horrible memories of Prospero for my legionaries!

At the minute I am planning on taking the following 2k list running Pride of the Legion:

HQ

Delegatus
Arcane litanies, Artificer Armour, ML1, Plasma Pistol, Force Weapon, Refractor Field,

Troops

Veteran Squad
Veterans x 9
Asphyx Shells, ML 1, 2 x Heavy Bolters with suspensor web, Vexilla
Sergeant
Artificer Armour, Plasma Pistol, Power Sword

Legion Tactical Support Squad
Troops x 4
Volkie Calivers, Extra close combat weapon
Sergeant
Volkite Caliver, Artificer Armour

Legion Tactical Support Squad
Troops x 4
Volkite Caliver, Extra close combat weapon
Sergeant
Volkite Caliver, Artificer Armour

Legion Terminator Squad
Troops x 4
ML1, Tartaros Armour,
2x Chain Fist
1 x Autocannon
2 x Lightning Claw
2 x Combi plasma
Sergeant
1x Combi plasma and power fist

Legion Terminator Squad
Troops x 4
ML 1, Tartaros Armour
2 x Chain Fist
1 x Plasma Blaster
1 x Combi Melta
2 x dual Lightning Claw.
Sergeant
1 x Combi Melta, 1 x Chain Fist.

Elites

Contemptor Dreadnought
2 x Volkite Culverin

Khenetai Blade Occult Cabal
1 x Blademaster
9 x Blades

Heavy Support

Whirlwind Scorpius

I know I'm severely lacking in anti-armour, so I could swap to my Death Guard if the general consensus is that I am going to be owned.  Having said that, I'm more interested in having a good laugh and meeting some like-minded fellow hobbyists.

As this is my first solo event what tips would you give me?

Death Guard - Tactical Squads

Hi all,

Seeing as this my second blog post, I thought I would start by talking about one of the fundamental units of any Legion - the humble tactical squad.

I have two ten man squads of Tactical marines for my Death Guard army.  I used the FW MKIII kits as the GW ones had not been released at the time.  I gave them Phobos pattern bolters as I felt it was the traditional bolter for the XIV.

I made a point of adding bayonets to every bolter.  This was a fiddly task, but I’m happy with the appearance it gives them.  I didn’t use the head/torso upgrade kits, but did splash out for the FW shoulder pads.  I added nuncio voxes and vexillas as well.

My Sergeants are both identically equipped – power fist and bolt pistol with artificer armour.

Before I go further, I should stress I am by no means an expert gamer.  I’ve probably played 20-30 games of Heresy since I picked up the hobby.  I was also lucky enough to play in this year's Heresy Double Tournament where I managed to rack up an impressive ratio of five loses in five games – all Ikthelion’s fault!

I’ve tried numerous rites of war and various tactics with my squads.  Despite this I cannot recall a game where they have shone or performed above my expectations.  Going from memory, I didn’t even bother disembarking them in any of the doubles as they would have been slaughtered.

Having said that, I still can’t quite bring myself to leave home without them when the XIV march to war.  I feel like it would be an ultimate betrayal of the XIV fluff! In order to stick to the fluff, my original plan was to have tactical squads moving forward on foot en masse.  However, after suffering even worse defeats than normal I buckled and added the Rhinos.

One of my Rhinos led to my proudest moment in the hobby when I had the fortune to bump into Duncan from Warhammer TV.  He specifically singled out my Rhino as being “really nice”.  I’m sure he was just being polite and said the same to everyone he spoke to, but I won’t ever forget that compliment! Sad I know….

Anyways, how do you run your tactical squads?  Have you had more success than me?

Ps.  Has everyone seen this?

Hector Cephas; Throne of Skulls review

Hey all,

I thought it was about time I did a review of the Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls event that took place last weekend. I had an absolutely fantastic time; there's always a really good atmosphere at these events as it's quite relaxed and laid back and it's all about the hobby, the people and the enjoyment of playing games in the Age of Darkness.

As you can see from the images, I managed to get my World Eaters ready for the event - not entirely finished as there is a lack of blood though my first opponent pointed out that they should earn it by getting bloodied here anyway and that works for me!

Game 1: Vlka Fenryka (11-11; draw)

I can tell you, this was a bit of a shock, I couldn't believe I got to play against Vlka Fenryka in my first game! This was a great game to play, my opponent had such a great attitude towards the game and as you would expect, we just threw our legions at each other and there was much carnage - we almost flipped the Night of the Wolf on it's head as due to a bit of luck with cards drawn, I was winning the tactical game and the Vlka Fenryka were beating me on the butchery side of things.

This all changed when Angron died in his challenge with Russ and the game ended in a draw; 11-11 victory points, I'll take that result for a first competitive game with this army!

I saw this army on the Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls: Army Progress page on Facebook. I wish I got a picture of the Leviathan as it was beautiful and he did an excellent job with the Prospero themed basing. This almost won my favourite game vote but didn't in the end purely because of some of the other excellent games I had during the rest of the weekend!

Game 2: Vlka Fenryka (7-7; draw)

Second game, second Vlka Fenryka player - I did end up thinking after finishing this game that I may just end up getting drawn against a third VF player (spoiler alert: I didn't!). This match up, unlike the previous game was pretty one-sided though purely down to my dice rolls - I had two tactical squads entirely wiped out without doing much damage in return and a third swept off the board after losing combat to Russ's wolves.

Despite this, I managed to secure a 7-7 draw by a combination of lucky tactical objective card draws on my part, unfortunate ones for my opponent and the ability to drop pod my troops on top of objectives to pick them up unopposed before moving them onto fight the Vlka Fenryka assuming that they hadn't got to me first. Again, a draw is a draw, I'll take that.

Game 3: Iron Hands (9-6; win)

I must say, I felt bad through out this game. It felt like I picked the Iron Hands apart and due to the tactical objective cards I drew, I had to:
  1. Kill off my opponents troop selections
  2. Wipe out everything on a 2x2 tile
  3. Capture objectives that happened to be in or near my opponents deployment zone
It felt very one-sided in my favour due to the luck of the draw and I can't say it was fun for my opponent to play as I had to take out most of his scoring units which limited his options and his chances of getting back into the fight. 9-6 to me in the end and while it was my first victory of the weekend, it didn't taste sweet.

Game 4: Ultramarines (10-6; win)

Just imagine my amazement that I managed to get Ultramarines as my 4th opponent - when I first started this legion, the idea was to do an Armatura themed army. I loved this game, it was just constant action all the way through - I would put down a unit of tactical marines; the ultramarines would wipe out one of mine; I would take out a tank, the Ultramarines would return the favour by getting a Mortis Contemptor Dreadnought to pistol-whip my Contemptor and put him in his place... it was excellent! We fought all over the board and didn't give up.

The more observant of our readers would notice that this army is all in MkVII armour and that is correct; I do not hold this against my opponent - this was his first Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls and had only started playing Horus Heresy really recently. He is working on a Raven Guard army and if his army is as well painted as his Ultramarines, I am really looking forward to see it!

The final result of this game was a victory to the World Eaters (10-6) - unfortunately, my opponent kept on drawing objectives that were the opposite side of the board to his army so it was a struggle for him to achieve those but he put up a valiant effort, this could have been much closer and could have easily won this if he got better cards. Like the first game - it almost got my favourite game vote but it was beaten to the punch by the final opponent...

Game 5: Legio Custodes (11-13; loss; favourite game)

I know what you are thinking... "Wait, you lost this game, how was this your favourite?!". Simply put, it was very much like my previous game against the Ultramarines but turned up to 11.

Right from the start, I had to push him - if I let the Custodes get momentum, I was going to be toast so I had to play very aggressively right from the start to try and tip the scales in my favour. Unfortunately, the double-threat of a Leviathan and Contemptor dreadnought failed to tie down his troops before the rest of my army could get into position and as a result it put me on the back foot. His elite guard then started to advance up the field but got intercepted by my praetor and his command retinue. His Custodian Tribune had to join this melee to try to free up his men however, as Gahlan Surlak was backing up my Praetor, my command squad eventually won the day slaying both him and a squad of the the most elite of the 10,000 by the end of the game.

Believe it or not, until the 4th turn, I was actually winning on victory points as I got some useful cards at the right time and got some points onto the board very quickly. However, in my opponents 4th turn, he managed to get 7 victory points in a single turn that turned my 4 point lead into a 3 point deficit! All-in-all, this game was a very bloody, roller coaster ride that would have made Khorne very pleased indeed and was a very well deserved favourite game vote for my opponent; we shall have a rematch in the future I am sure!

To conclude, this was an incredibly enjoyable weekend and I would like to thank the Warhammer World events team for running such an excellent event and everyone else in attendance for just being awesome. I am really looking forward to the next Throne of Skulls whenever that takes place!

Until next time!

Hector Cephas; World Eaters Status Report

Hi all,

There does seem to be quite a bit of interest in this project so today I am going to go through where my World Eaters project is currently at and what I am hoping to get done in time for Throne of Skulls on Saturday 25th March.

Unit Assembled Base Coat Shaded Highlighted Based
Angron
Praetor
Gahlan Surlak
Primus Medicae
Tactical Squad 1
Tactical Squad 2
Legion Inductees 1
Legion Inductees 2
Legion Terminators
Red Butchers
Legion Contemptor Dreadnought
Legion Leviathan Siege Dreadnought
Legion Drop Pods (5)
Legion Dreadnought Drop Pods (2)
Legion Anvillus Pattern Dreadclaw Drop Pod (1)

2 weeks to go now! I've got a fair bit of painting ahead of me but I think I can still get this done on time - also, the table is a bit misleading as while some of the stages aren't "complete", some of these are as good as done - the tacticals and the terminators come into mind in regards to this. I think the Red Butchers won't be coming with me as they are a lot more detailed than I originally thought and I don't think I'll have time to properly do them justice. I am also going to be kit bashing Surlak this week - should be able to build and paint him in one night really so I'm not too worried.

With any luck my drop pods won't take me too long to paint, for the most part it is going to be dry brushing as I have already got them primed (inside and outside different colours to make my life a whole lot easier) - I'm hoping to rattle through them tomorrow so you may get to see them in the weekly progress report tomorrow!

Until next time guys!

Hector Cephas; Angron - the Lord of the Red Sands

Hi all,

As you may have seen yesterday, my weekly update was not quite complete. This is because I thought it would be a better idea to do a dedicated post Angron rather than a quick paragraph - he's still a work in progress as I have a few bits to do with him here and there but otherwise I thought it might be a good idea to show you how he's progressing:

I really love the model. Compared to some of the Primarchs, he has got to be the easiest to build. What I ended up doing in the end was prime (chaos black) and base coat him first, then assemble him and finally finish off the shading and dry brushing - I decided to drybrush rather than edge highlight as I prefer the rougher look and I feel that suits Angron perfectly:

Armour:

  1. Warplock Bronze (base coat)
  2. Balthasar Gold (heavy dry brush)
  3. Agrax Earthshade (wash)
  4. Balthasar Gold (medium dry rush)
  5. Brass Scorpion (very light drybrush)

Leather:
  1. Khorne Red (base coat)
  2. Mephiston Red (dry brush)
  3. Agrax Earthshade (shade)
  4. Mephiston Red (light drybrush)
Skin (red markings are missing for the time being):
  1. Rakarth Flesh (base)
  2. Reikland Fleshshade (shade)
  3. Rakarth Flesh (light drybrush)
  4. Flayed One Flesh (very light drybrush)

Cloak (fur):
  1. Mournfang Brown (base)
  2. Agrax Earthshade (shade)
  3. Pallid Wych Flesh (drybrush)
Cloak (hide):
  1. Ushabti Bone (base)
  2. Agrax Earthshade (shade)
  3. Ushabti Bone (drybrush)
  4. Pallid Wych Flesh (light dry brush)

Weapons, chains and butchers nails (chains and butchers nails need fixing up):
  1. Leadbelcher (base)
  2. Agrax Earthshade (shade)
  3. Leadbelcher (drybrush)
  4. Ironbreaker (light drybrush)

So there we have it. Apart from the bits I need to fix up on him, all that remains is to bloody him up with some Blood for the Blood God and then he'll be all set for Throne of Skulls at the end of March assuming all goes well with the rest of the legion. I feel I am progressing very well with the rest of my World Eaters - hopefully I'll have a good update for you all on Sunday - just cautious of promising to complete a 3k list in less than 4 weeks but I am giving it a go!

Until next time,

Hector Cephas

Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls - March 26th/27th 2017

Hi guys,

Just thought I would throw up a post here to announce that Warhammer World have announced the next Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls event.

It will be taking place on Saturday 26th - Sunday 27th March 2017 and these events are great fun. Tickets will go on sale on January 2nd so keep your eyes on the Warhammer World website for further details. The page for the event is here: https://warhammerworld.games-workshop.com/horus-heresy-throne-of-skulls-3/

You can download the event pack from the website which will give you details on what is allowed or disallowed. On the most part, it is the same as the previous events however it appears that the Leviathan detachment has been banned for this event so if anyone was planning on bringing a titan legio along will unfortunately be unable to take part in this event. There will be events later on in the year that will allow this though according to the pack.

I hope to see you guys there!

Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls

Hello all!

Over the weekend Kaelo and myself attended Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls to represent the Bunnies. We had a fantastic weekend, we meet some great people, saw some awesome armies, ate some good food, had a great quiz and most importantly played some awesome games!

I took my Sons of Horus First Company and had lists for 2k, 2.5k and 3k. It was made up of:
Abaddon
5 Justaerin - 3 combi-meltas
5 Justaerin - 2 combi-meltas, multi-melta
5 Justaerin - 3 combi-plasma, reaper auto cannon
5 Justaerin - 2 combi-plasma, reaper auto cannon
5 Justaerin - (added for the 3k list)
(They were armed with various combat weapons, power fists, chain fists, lightning claws and power axes.)
Contemptor - 2 kheres
Contemptor - multi-melts and fist with flamer
Vindicator
Sicaran Venator - (added at 3k)
Horus - (added for 2.5k and 3k)

Saturday:

Game 1: I landed a great draw in my first game of the weekend, I played Paulie and his White Scars at 2k.

It was a fantastic army made up of jet bikes, bikes, land speeders, 2 tactical squads and a Sicaran. It was a close game and ended with the white scars taking the victory. I hadn't faced a White Scars army before and playing one was really good fun! This was at the end of White Scars first turn:

They were so fast my Justaerin didn't have much hope of catching them. The 2 White Scar tactical squads out flanked on turn 2 and came on next to one of my Justaerin squads.

They shot at them, a lot, and I was sure they were done for after receiving 17 wounds, however it wasn't to be as I saved everyone of them!!

The 2 Justaerin that that survived the savage shooting turned around and set to work butchering the tactical squad, eventually causing them to run away!

Mean while the one of my other Justaerin squads set about wiping out the other tactical squad. The game ended with a close score but the White Scars claimed the victory, their manoeuvrability really helping with the Tactical Objectives.

Game 2: This was what I was dreading coming up against. A leviathan list with 2 Warhounds with some Night Lord allies. My opponent, James, when ensure the Warhounds were packed well for travel unfortunately left his troops behind! Luckily I was able to provide him with enough models to stand in for them. We played at 2.5k and I had the feeling it was going to be a quick loss! I gave it my best shot and started throwing everything I had at the warhounds void shields so that when Horus and Abaddon came in from deep striking with melta they would have a good chance to remove some hull points. This plan fell down slightly when Abaddon failed to show up on turn 2. Horus came in though and set about killing everything he could!

Horus landed behind one of the titans and shoot at it with everything, causing the loss of 4 hull points. His unit had to weather the storm of shooting from the entire army! Some how Horus came through on his own with no wounds. The titan in the above picture then decided to charge Horus, along with the terminators on the right (Night Lords, represented by my spare Justaerin) to finish him off. Horus on his own against a titan and 5 terminators, I suspect your all thinking what I was that that would be the end of Horus.

Well it wasn't!! Using World Breaker he ended the titan and sweeping advanced the terminator squad off the board, all while taking no wounds!! He consolidated straight towards the second titan!

He proceeded to reduce the second titan down to 3 hull points, unfortunately you can't lock a titan in combat so it ran away and turbo lasered Horus to death! A sad end as I was hopeful at that point that I could take the second down! Abaddon had attempted to show up but misshaped and even with his re-roll ended up being placed in the far corner. With Horus down and Abandon miles away the game ended quickly. I only managed to secure the 1Victory point out of the game.

Game 3: In this game I played Matt and his Iron Hands with Knights at 3k. Matt was running a tank heavy list but with only a couple of scoring units. This was a fantastic game and very close!

As in the titan game Horus and Abaddon deep striked and came after the Knights. I forced Matt to make a tough choice for his Ion Shield.

Between the 2 deep striking units and the double Kheres Contemptor I blow the first knight up! This annoyed the second and he came looking for revenge along with some terminator friends!

The combat was going well, Horus had the Knight down to its last hull point but the this just made the Knight even madder and in a fit of rage it stood on Horus' head and squashed him!!

Mean while the other terminator squad got out of the Spartan and charged Abaddon. Being well out numbers and the Iron Hands being armed with power fists, they didn't last long, but they did take half the squad with them though!

The Iron Hands then set about chasing down the last of my army. The ensuing combat saw the end of the knight and the Iron Father. As well as the last of the Sons of Horus in the above photo! At the end of turn 5 we rolled and the game ended, which I was very thankful for as I only had 2 Justaerin left on the board, one of which only had 1 wound.

The day ended with a Bugman's and a Horus Heresy quiz which was awesome! Our team didn't take the victory but it was a close run thing. All but one of teams scoring between 50 and 56 points!

Sunday:

Game 4: A great start to day 2, I played David and his Mechanicum at 2.5k. It was a beautiful army however it vastly out gunned my Sons of Horus but the game was a lot of fun!

I wasn't able to deep strike with Horus and Abaddon, as they would have been shot with interceptor fire due to augery scanners in several of the units. Wisely David set up in a corner and away from my army.

I tried to secure as many tactical objectives as I could to even the fight but the large plasma blasts were crippling! I sent Horus off to trash some of the army and he went straight after the mechanicum's leader, Scoria.

It didn't end well, as Scoria is kitted out with loads of deadly weapons and rules! Plus he had four friends with him beating on Horus and forcing too many saves. In the end the Warmaster was killed and my army wiped out!

Game 5: Kaelo challenged me in the last game and it was on, the Battle of the Bunnies! Kaelo had his Raven Guard and we played at 2.5k. We had an awesome game!!

Here was how we set up, we both had quite a lot of reserves to come in to join the fight. Having heard how deadly the Dark Fury's had been throughout the weekend I wanted to make sure they died, a lot!

That part of my plan went well! However Corax was mercilessly hunting down my squads single handedly. Horus was getting upset by his Bothers actions and he went after him! Corax really didn't want to fight Horus and kept running away. I nearly had him twice, I failed the first charge by 1 inch and the second charge chance by 1 inch, which re-rolled to 2 inches! So close yet so far. It was a close game throughout but in the end the Raven Guard won!

Painting:
I entered something into all the painting competitions but I was unsuccessful in all categories. There were a lot of good entries and the winners were all beautifully painted. Well done to all who entered and won!

Overall:
I had 5 fantastic games and came away with some great stories to tell for the years to come! Thank you to all of my opponents, it sucked that I only had 1 favourite game vote as each one of you were deserving of the vote. In the end I only won 1 game and scored 35 Victory points but came in 14th overall, which I was really pleased with.

Thoughts on my army list:
The Justaerin are insanely survivable, but I had so few models left at the end of every game that it was touch and go as to whether I would see the game through. The vindicator did very little, as did the Venator (although I only got to use it once). The 2 Contemptors are cool but are easy targets for opponents big guns. They did contribute but the Justaerin did nearly all the hard work. Horus made the list a lot more affective, as he is seriously badass! He is more than capable of dealing with whatever comes his way. I think the main issue was that my Justaerin were both my scoring units and my damage dealing units, which often left me with a hard choice between dealing with what was killing me or holding onto the objective. I had good fun using it and hopefully my opponents had fun playing against it! I have a ticket to the Shadow Wars Campaign in the October and it is likely I will be using the Sons of Horus again but I may rethink the list a bit or perhaps try and get some Green SoH sorted to bolster the force.

If you are interested in seeing more of pictures of everyones else army the Warhammer World team did a fantastic job of documenting the event. Check out there Facebook page here
