Mecenaries or Heroes?

Good evening my late night Bunnies. Tonight I'll be sharing some thoughts that not only effect your army choices but your hobby choices too. 

Shattered Legions/Blackshields - Now love them or loath them they have a significant and important part to play in the Heresy story arc and in the future of the imperium. 

The first obvious go to guy is the main man himself the Agentia Primus. 

He's the first of many Loyalists who are effectively 'Blackshields' yet through his role becomes so much more. 

But aside from the fluff aspect of Blackshileds lets again look at things from a gaming perspective. 

Shattered legions are where we're going. A group or number of groups of individuals from different legions banding together. Or a group of legionaries cut off from their legion with no knowledge of what has transpired. 

I for one love the idea of fielding loyalist World Eaters and Deathguard along side a group of embattled Imp Fists. 

Who's to say in the far reaches of the crusade this isn't possible?

So who do you have to fight at you side?

Well here's a look at my own ideas. 

Battered and on the back foot where would you seek aid or take the hand of friendship?

Pyroclasts who wouldn't want some heavy infantry with flamers right?

White scar outriders. Bikes and speed, lightning fast assault back up with swords!

Striking from the within the enemy, Alpha legion operatives loyal to Emperor still? Why not?

And two of my own personal favourites that fit nicely with the Garro sort arc:

Loyalist World Eater assault marines. 

And a squad of Palantine Blades. 

What you have there is an endless amount of fun on two counts. One the gaming aspect. It allows you to use and field units you wouldn't normally, making your gaming experience new and fresh. 

Two the hobby aspect. If you can't afford to start a second legion or you just plain don't want to, but you love building painting and modelling then again this allows you to build that elite unit from another legion or paint a different legion to test your own painting skills. 

It doesn't stop there:

True Blackshields have gone down a path they don't wish to return from. Forsaking their own heraldry and taking up the panoply of a shadow force they strike without warning. Either to their own agenda a twisted version of the imperial truth or a much darker path. 

Either aligning to the Warmaster or just going in the same direction dancing to their own tune. 

The best part..The choice is all yours.  I hope you've enjoyed my brief little walk down the path of noble ronin.

Typhon Super-Heavy Tank

Evening again Battle Bunnie followers!

Tylar back again for a look at one of the best Super-Heavies in the 30K rule-set. 

Why?

Well it packs one hell of a punch for its points and when you're dropping large templates on people they tend to give you a wide birth!

I've found in my gaming it's a great unit for soaking up fire and holding a particular part of the board. Be it a flank or slap bang in the centre and it's a solid choice. 

Where it all started:

Some time ago I put this beauty together. 

The new track sections are great and make the whole build process so much easier. 

And with the addition of some etched brass the doors came out a treat.

I had at this point already fitted magnets to the centre area of the sponson mounts. 

As you can see here this was back a few weeks ago when I base coated all three of my tanks at the same time. 

Here it is after the masking was removed ready for the next stage.

Now for my own personal look I've kept the paint scheme fairly simple and clean. I know some of the other Bunnies are really good at the grim dark weathered look but it's not for me. 

I'm happy with the shading aspects that have come out as a result of my airbrushing which I have to say I'm still getting used to but it's so much fun and makes painting tanks etc such a pleasure. 

I may add transfers but they'll be minimal as I've used etched brass. I'm still un-decided. 

Anyway I hope you like it guys let me know your thoughts and let me know about your own 'go-to' options for a Super-Heavy Tank in your force lists.

Weekly Progress Report 01/05/2016

Evening everyone we have a bumper post this evening for our WPR report. All the Bunnies have been busy so let's see who's been up to what. 

First up Drake Seta has finally got the components to start the Vlka Fenryka. He can see it as another project he is starting or he can choose to see it as he is starting the last thing on his Bucket list.

As you've seen last night King Fluff has been back to the Mechanicum forges on Graia beavering away to bring you a completed troops choice for his army. Stay tuned for an imminent update on his Night Lords.

Lady Atia was busy building Orks and painting her Tactical Squad. She also found some old Gorkamorka models in her dad's cellar ... allied Ork-Cultist detachment on the horizoon (after stripping of her crappy old paintjob :P)

Aveinus has spent this week working on having his knight fully built so he can begin painting. However he has encountered a few issues with forgeworld parts not fitting properly so some heat gun action looks imminent. An update on this will be available to see in his next post.

Darien has started working on his Spartan for his Sons of Horus. He is hoping to complete it this week, look out for a post on Friday for an update.

Kaelo and Castiel have busy in the background but don't have any solid WPR to share this week but watch this space ;)

Weekly Progress Report 17/04/2016

Good evening everyone :)

This week the Bunnies have been busy. Some unfortunately with things not Hobby related. 

First up Drake has been busy this week but has found time to attend to some Battle Automata in the form of 3 Vorax. He hopes to get them finished in the next 2 weeks as a side project.

He is also planning on assembling and painting a Imperial Space Marine this week for the XIV Legion. He managed to Nab 4 of the Ltd ed mini by collaring passer-bys to go in and buy minis for him. He does need 4 though (one for each of his four Legions).

Kaelo has been assembling more Raven Guard. Here is a look at his MKIV tactical squad with resin shoulder pads (which he had to file down so the rims were the same as the right pad). Next up is a shooty veteran squad, Corax, some Jetbikes and the finishing pieces to his Contemptor.

Darien has started work on his vehicles! He managed to base coat 6 of the 9 before running out of paint! Work has now started on painting the Land Raider.

Atia worked on her Contemptor Dreadnought this week - he is almost finished, besides a few details. Here you can see his body before assembling:

This week King Fluff has been back on black (and bone) with more Mechanicum units. He's currently mechandrites deep in a Triaros Armoured Conveyor and a modest sized unit ofThallax. Stay tuned for completed jetbikes and Mechanicum in the next few weeks.

That's some great progress all round this week. 

And some of the future projects coming through look awesome. Stay tuned for more exciting posts this week.

Armoured Might

So.....

So close yet so far. Over the last week ...sort of, I've been working on my tanks. To do this I had to prep the last parts of my Typhon, which I had misplaced, and magnetise those plus tidy a few niff naff bits. That I succeeded in. 

As you can see there are two small magnets one in each centre that match corresponding ones in the Typhon hull. 

My main aim was to try and get all 4 tanks to the same place. With my Sicarian there abouts already. 

Various reasons including a rather selfish trip to Warhammer World prevented me from completing what I set out to do but I'm chuffed with my accomplishment. Mainly as I had found a pot of my secret recipe 'Imperial Fist yellow' and was able, with a little Tamia thinner, to resurrect the remainder and mix an entire new pot as a result. 

I'm a little OCD when it comes to colour matching it's why I'm doing them all in one go lol!

So the following is a blow by blow in Picts of how it went:

Now I'm a bit backwards when it comes to going forwards some may say. I undercoat in white then pre-shade. I prefer to do this than have two layers of paint one undercoat of black and then a thin white. Just suits my painting style. There are some brilliant airbrush tutorials out there one by Orkpainter nerd is what helped me to do this, so go check out his how to paint a tank airbrush tutorial on YouTube and his many others for hints and tips. 

So this is where they've all received a layer of Averland Sunset having been masked off. That is with the exception of the Spartan which had already been sprayed. 

Now it's probably hard to tell from those Picts but that is with a coat of my 'Imp Fist Yellow' which is basically Averland and Flash Gitz mixed roughly 2-1 until I'm happy with the shade. Then I've added in Tamia X-20A thinner which is readily available, to keep it at that milky consistency. I still add a little extra when putting it through my airbrush between 3-1 and 4-1 of paint to thinner and then if I have to do an extra layer so be it. 

I'd rather do that than have problems cleaning my airbrush and spraying on a couple of layers and it clogging up detail. 

So here you have my Vidiactor Laser Destroyer. Which with a layer of Lamenters Yellow a touch of Agrax, a hint  of Seraphim and a dash of Gitz should be ready for the final step of varnish and transfers.

FW Painting colour scheme (this was the official one that FW send out): 

IMPERIAL FISTS

1. PAINT WITH AVERLAND SUNSET BASE, THEN OVER PAINT WITH YRIEL YELLOW. 

2. HIGHLIGHT WITH FLASHGIT YELLOW.

3. GLAZE WITH CASANDORA YELLOW AND THEN WHEN THIS IS DRY WASH WITH AGRAX EARTHSHADE

4. DOT RANDOM SPOTS OF BURNT UMBER OIL PAINT OVER THE MODEL AND THEN FLOOD THE MODEL WITH DOWNWARD STROKES OF PURE WHITE SPIRIT, SO THAT THE OIL PAINT ALMOST COMPLETELY RUNS OFF THE MODEL, BUT STILL TINTS IT AND STAYS IN THE CREVICES. 

Tyler's paint scheme:

I use Averland Sunset as a base. 

This is followed by a recess wash of Agrax Earthshade. I then layer with a mix of 2:1 Averland and Flashgitz Yellow. 

Now this leaves the minis with a darker shade of yellow than what you may call the 'Traditional' scheme. 

Personally I prefer it and whilst it is slightly darker I like it to remain clean as I don't feel the need to weather the world! Lol

Summary:  I wrote this this to showcase the Templars their First Captain and the Lord all fighting together. 

All supported by the bombardment of siege shells from the master of signals with the Quad launchers and Rapier Laser Carriage. 

And backed by just sheer weight of fire-power from the Volkites. 

It may not be competitive but it looks awesome on the battlefield!
