Forge World release 27/03. Age of Darkness expansion hint?

Here is another Friday's release. We see Anvilus Dynat (who we first previewed at the Weekender). The model is great looking and has some great detail.

The painter did a great job on the Tattoo.

Also we have the Xiphon Interceptor. I am a massive fan of this kit. Would like to know more about them, hopefully in a book or similar.

With unparalleled speed and manoeuvrability, the Xiphon pattern Interceptor saw increasing service in the Legiones Astartes during the dark days of the Horus Heresy. Based on ancient designs, the void and atmospheric craft carried heavy armaments into battle, allowing it to destroy both air and ground targets with apparent ease. Its pair of twin-linked lascannon and Xiphon rotary missile launcher combined with the Interceptor’s speed and agility to make it a deadly opponent from which the enemies of Mankind could not hide.

The Rotary missile Launcher is a good looking weapon. Points-wise for that armour value I am a bit dubious of it's survivability. I will be getting one for my Night Lords when I get round to them.

Could this comment be our first hint at the Age of Darkness expansion we are expecting from Games Workshop? We hope so.

Age of Darkness is referenced in Forge World books as battles in the Age of Darkness but does that constitue the FW books themselves which have always been referred to as Campaign books, with Space Marine Crusade Army lists. What do you think? comment below.

  1. I will definitely be picking up at least one of the interceptors. If only to slake my need for something that looks like a Colonial Viper that I can use in 30/40K lol
Hey if he's an Ultramarine pilot why wouldn't he be called Apollo? Just sayin LOL
The pain job on Dynat is very good. I just find him at odds with the Alpha Legion sneaky and devious MO, hefting around a TH.
It's nice to see two versions of the rules too.
Might have to sub in my Thunderbolt mini while I wait for this to arrive, in my next game. :D

    1. Yeah I know what you mean. After Abnett's Alpha Legion, I couldn't shake the impression they should all have similar unadorned armour. But hey, we need heroes.
What do you think of the Xiphon Rules?

    2. Disappointed it has less armour than a drop pod. Should be at least 12/12/11 IMHO but hey maybe when it finally arrives they bum it up. Maybe even slightly diff for the HH vers. So 12 all round and the 40K vers is 12/12/11?
I really like the rotary missile launcher rules.
I'm looking forward to getting my hands on one.
Points are a little steep too. I get why it has armoured ceremite but shooting Melta weapons at flyers does happen that often. Thanks for the freebie but I'd prefer more armour.
As for Dynat I like his character but I'd have preferred to see Exodus he's way more 'Alpha Legion' in his character type.

    4. I don't mind having the obviously Alpha Legion armor on them, despite their sneaky ways. It ties in to their flaw of arrogance. I mean, they sneak around, kill you slowly and silently, making you wonder from whence the next/final blow will fall, but at the very end, when it finally does come, they want you to know just who it is that killed you. They want you to know that the Alpha Legion came and destroyed you once and for all.

    5. Oh don't get me wrong I really like the armour in fact there's nothing I don't particularly like about the sculpt. I just have an issue with the fact that as an Alpha Legion Character he skulks about.....with a dirty great big thunder hammer LOL
As Drake said. I've yet to see a story where the 'Legion' is out in full force fighting beyond squad strength. It's always 'operative' based or no more than a squad sized engagement.
Even in Deliverence Lost they don't know who exam other are and there's only 3/4 of them.

    6. Auto correct is getting tiresome today.....
      Lol

    7. That 3+ Jink save goes some way to negating the armour issues imho. When I go back to playing marines after guard it amazes me how good 3+ is :)

    1. Those baby blue ones were just too bright. I think they do some that bright for the black and white images they use in the backgrounds of the Horus Heresy books, for effect.
