A new variant of Terminator armour coming?

I have flipped through the new large Novella to the picture pages and were confronted by this image:

They are referred to as the Pyre Warden (may be Sslamanders). Now obviously this is one of the older designs we remember from the Rogue Trader era of GW (see below).

I think it is a good homage paying modern design of this suit (which I cannot confirm the true name for), and if they are breaking through into the Horus Heresy Novels it is almost confirmation that FW will have to do them.
They are the Deredeo to the Contemptor chassis; a extra heavy weapon sporting Terminator squad. The lead has what looks to be an Assault cannon and Heavy Bolter whilst the one behind may have a Graviton cannon and Lascannon.

There could be a spot on my Shelves for them.

  1. I think it's more likely to be a rotor cannon then assault cannon if it's a unit wide weapon, but still, awesome.

    1. It is a triple-barrelled Autocannon and Heavy Bolter.

    2. They have an assortment including Combi-Bolters, Rocket launchers and Plasma Chargers. Some also had triple barrelled Autocannons and Volkite Culverin.
Back mounted: missiles, Lascannon, Heavy Bolter and Conversion beamers.
They are Vulkan Wrought and were pulled from the battle line just before deployment at Isstvan 5, as he was worried they would fall into enemy hands.
      They sound . . . Awesome.

  2. That is AWESOME, do we know if the book will be available to the public in the future? Or is it exclusively to the event?

    1. From BL:

Thanks for your email. Meduson is a Warhammer World Exclusive. The stories however contained within this book will reappear in an anthology at some point in the future.

  3. Apparently Pyre Wardens are specific to the Fire Lords chapter...who are descended from the Imperial Fists.

And I don't think we've seen Terminators for them yet?

  4. Hmmm, Saturnyne pattern (as per "Betrayal")?

This design looks curiously unmilitary and quite like something one would wear when performing hazardous maintenance in a plasma reactor, as mentioned in the fluff. Perhaps the Shattered Legions are scraping the bottom of the barrel regarding equipment in order to become battle-worthy again.

    Cheers.

    1. No. It is a Bespoke Variant wrought by Vulkan himself. At the time of Betrayal only Salamanders had them at their disposal. They were not sent to the surface of Isstvan V because of his fear of the design falling into the hands of the Traitors. Unless it gets retconned obviously lol.

    2. Haha! I knew it was worth it to ask about terminator patterns..

If they are a bespoke variant, it could be that they wear a modified version of an existing pattern, like how Gorgon terminator armor is modified Indomitus pattern. Just a possible way other legions might have access to the suit.

  5. Well that's some rampant speculation..

Would love to see them but really not holding my breath.

    1. It seems like a fairly reasonable speculation to me.

    2. I agree with Khall. If there is a picture in the latest book, I would say it's very reasonable

  6. They do look pretty awesome, and are, to me at least, more in-line with what centurions should've been. Out of interest which story from, I presume Meduson, are these mentioned in?
