Small actions in the 31st Millenium

Have you ever thought to yourself, that you'd like to play out some of the stories of characters like John Grammiticus, or of some of the Alpha Legion operatives? Warhammer 30,000 may not work very well for this, but there is a game that does...

Games Workshop have recently re-released Rogue Trader, which I was lucky enough to have obtained during a recent trip with the other Bunnies to Warhammer World in Nottingham. The rules in the book are perfect for fully customising your character of choice, including not only their wargear, but also their stat line. All of this comes at a points cost, but you could spend a good few upping the stats and adding in psychic abilities.

Why not add in Damon Prytanis? Again, you could up the stats and give him his Shuriken weapons. You could then re-play their flight from the soldiers of Macragge, or make up your own stories about them! It could also be used like a role-play game, if you enjoy those.

Do you like the idea of playing the 'smaller' characters of the Horus Heresy? Do you think you will use Rogue Trader to do it? Will you use another game system to play these stories out?

I'm looking forward to playing this, in the wonderful setting of the 31st Millenium. Let us know if you will be giving this a go, or if you already do something similar.

Stick to the shadows,
Spectre

    1. Thanks mate, maybe it's something we should cover some time.

  2. An excellent idea, thus far me and my mates have been using kill team rules for a lot of this sort of game but this adds a lot more colour and personalisation.

    1. Have you tried the Victory is Vengeance campaign from Book 3?

    2. I have, we used that before killteam came out, personally I prefer it but my mates don't.

  3. Although initially doubtful of this reproduction, I'm coming around to the idea of picking up a copy. Now if only GW would do something similar with Realms of Chaos and The Lost & The Damned.

  4. I haven't had a flick through it yet sadly, but from what you say it could be a great base for some of these secondary characters.
Would the psychic side be compatible or just a guide too.

Throne they need to get the Rogue Trader list/game out.

  6. Thinking about since a few months...
And i was mainly thinking about after seeing the Inq28 scene, what could be done into a 30k background ?

There are the rules for some skirmish campaigns in HH3 i was thinking to use them or some KillTeam stuff. But it's mainly to play some SM small detachment.
And if you really want to play some more "smaller" characters you will need to play some casual humans too. And mix them with Marines. It's what i think will give some 30k flavour to this kind of smaller game.
Is the casual 30k/40k stats will be sufficient ?

Maybe you should have a look at Necromunda and what was done with stuff like Inquisimunda ?

  7. I always thought it'd be fun to play a veteran escalation league, that escalates through the different editions of the game.
