Here we have it. Sanctioned artwork released by Black Library clearly showing Skitarii Rangers, Dunecrawlers
and Ironstriders (including a Volkite sporting one).
This means that the Codex looks almost completely validated for 30k compatibility. Let's just hope Forge World add some content for more awesomeness.

What are the odds that it goes the other way and validates Mechanicum for 40k usage? Because I've got a big ol' Thanatar that's just dying to melt some Necrons.
ReplyDeletedoubtful. the fluff for the big robots in cult, implied that the 30k legio cybernetica designs are no longer in use.
DeleteI honestly thought we'd se the FW mechanicus for 40k before we saw anything on Skitarii in 30k, but whichever is good!
ReplyDeleteThat said, it really does not seem like it's volkite on the dunecrawler nor on the ironstrider. The beam from the one ironstrider does look like the volkite depictions, but the weapon looks like the lascannons. The dunecrawler seems to be equipped with that weird looking radar disc.
I'm not completely sure as that part of the picture is a bit unclear, but that's what it looks like to me. Maybe i'm missing something?
If you head to black library you can download high res images of it under the wallpaper section. I still think it is a volkite weapon, as was painted by Neil who also did the Seventh Serpent and Tallarn: Executioner, and his beam weaponry from them were Volkite pistols if I remember correctly.
DeleteYeah, i'm also pretty sure that it's a volkite serpenta on the cover of Tallarn: Executioner, but on this book, the weapon shooting the beam doesn't strike me as volkite, it's still pretty unclear, though.
DeleteThe dunecrawler in the front is definitely with the radar dish weapon that the dunecrawler already includes in the box.
Awesome. Such good news.
DeleteOn the bright side, it close to confirms skitarii for 30k so i don't see why we wouldn't get some additions anyway.. Maybe the beam is actually volkite, but they decided to use another weapon on it and make it unclear just to save the creative process and let FW do it later.
DeleteIf not, you can always get your volkite from the cult mechanicus HQ (if they also get included, that is). ;)
Glad to hear it, I just ordered a load to go with the FW Mechanicum mainly because I really like the models but also on the off chance of there being a cross over.
ReplyDeleteThe codex says the Ironstriders were invented after the heresy.. so that's either a big error from the art team or the Ironstrider origin is a lie.. perhaps the real inventor was someone who turned Heretek afterwards so faking the date of invention gives the design an acceptability it might not have otherwise had?
ReplyDeleteAs i love Dragoons i'm hoping its the latter and not just an error.
