The Iron Tenth! Aveinus Kaane introduction.

Hello ladies and gentlemen I will start by saying I am a very lucky man, in that having been a daily observer of the blog for the past two and a half years I have now been given the brilliant opportunity to join the illustrious Battle Bunnies! I should introduce myself, I am (after much deliberation!) Aveinus Kaane of the Iron Hands legion. I am your new cold, calculated and wrathful battle bunny 😉. So I guess I’ll start with a little bit about how I got into the hobby! It actually started with the sixth edition box set of Warhammer Fantasy and a Catachan Jungle Fighters army for 40K. Unfortunately the Emperor didn't bless me with good painting skills or patience as a kid, so as my friends lost interest I drifted away from the hobby but continued to absolutely love the dawn of war games for the PC. Fast forward to 2012 and I started small projects on Space marines, Eldar and Tau before coming across this white dwarf!

I will always be a fan of the old incarnation of the white dwarf and this issue really got me excited about delving into the Horus Heresy! I didn't really want to start an Iron Hands army until the legions five man squad set was released, so I waited for a while until my legion got some love from Forgeworld. Since then I have been totally engrossed by the heresy and checking the Battle Bunnies blog became a daily habit! It’s given me a lot of inspiration over the years and helped keep me on track with the legion. This has been a challenge as it doesn't take much for me to start a new project and then start another two more! Lol.

I’m currently just working on my Iron Hands legion, as I don’t want to overstretch myself but in the future I would like to work on an imperial army detachment and a knight house for my 15th company. The biggest draw for me with Iron Hands is the amount of customisation they have with their bionic implants, which has allowed me to give my tactical marines a lot of character. I actually don’t have Ferrus yet though! I wanted to hold off on the Gorgon until I felt my painting was good enough to do him justice! I already have a sizeable portion of my Iron Hands completed, so I’m hoping to share them with you all gradually as I produce more posts in the future.  As it stands though, the tenth needs some more fire power and punch. So I’m hoping to add more support marines, a Predator Executioner and the man himself Ferrus Manus in the coming months. As well as the Cerebus Heavy Tank Destroyer, which I think is a simply gorgeous tank!

I have to admit that even though the Iron Hands are my favourite legion, Ferrus isn't my favourite primarch! (It’s his own fault for getting himself killed so early on lol) For me the most fascinating aspect of the primarchs are that they are essentially demi gods who inspire awe into everyone they meet, I really enjoyed reading about this in the opening trilogy. So with that in mind, it’s a tough call but I think Sanguinius has to be my favourite primarch, his angelic looks and martial prowess making him a model I'm really looking forward to. Although the Emperor is definitely the chap who I'm most interested in. The short part in Mechanicum where he heals the knight’s leg as he lands on Mars has to be one of my favourite scenes so far.

Becoming a Battle Bunny is a great opportunity for me, I think I’m most excited about having a chance to be involved in the future campaigns on the blog and sharing my legions progress with you all. I’m sure I’m not the only person who thought the opening to the Karrus campaign was excellent! So being involved in such a good narrative and having a goal to work towards is an exciting prospect for me. In return I’m hoping to bring another legion in all its glory to the blog and share my personal progress with you as my skills with a brush no doubt improve, thanks to the other talented bunnies we have on the blog!

Thanks for reading and here’s to the blogs bright future!

Aveinus Kaane

  1. Welcome =)

Can't wait for some Iron Hands action ^.^

I know what you mean with Ferrus - i think they didn't do him justice in the BL novels, but FW has saved that with both an awesome model and some better background ^^

    1. Yeah I was a little disappointed with him dying so early on, but I guess he'll just have to make his own history during the Karrus campaign ;) and thanks for the welcome me lady

  3. It's really nice to see a battle brother join the bunnies! Would you do me a favor; show Darko's Emperors Children that killing the primarch of the iron tenth isn't something that is taken lightly?
In all seriousness though, i'm really looking forward to seeing your army! :)

  8. Iron Hands are a legion I know so little about, probably because of the role they play (or rather don't) in the novels. Understandably some primarch has to die first and the traitors' side had to be setup quickly in the early novels, still it's a shame. Looking through Massacre a little while back though I found their scheme to be really striking so it will be great to see your progress.

    2. Good thing is with Ferrus; he is very much a Great Crusade Primarch. Now Kaelo may correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it has been written that he was one of the 2 main generals in 30k. I believe it was him and Horus that were the default Primarch Generals for group compliances. Kaelo? Where was this written if you recall?

    3. One of the 3 main generals that spread the Great Crusade for the fist 50 years:
      Emperor
      Horus
      Ferrus
      Information was found in Tempest.
