Kill Team: Moroch Chaos Traitor Guard review

Hi all

Today we’re taking a look at the Militarum Traitoris kill team which reaches our hobby collection by way of the new Kill Team: Moroch set. Kindly sent to the Battle Bunnies secret dropsite by Games Workshop for this review. It’s at this time that I realise through the many years of collecting Warhammer these are my very first 41st Millennium humans I've ever assembled - no xenos or Astartes today!

Given these once proud Astra Militarum soldiers had fallen from the Emperor’s light, whether through subversion or choice, I wanted to opt for a paint scheme which reflected this. Even my basing choice was to reflect the grimy bland colour palette I wanted.

Assembly of the kill team was straight-forward with a plethora of weapons and heads to choose from. I wanted to select body parts such as the helmets with added chainmail or topknot spikes. Even the additional body accessories showing a divergence from the clean, uniform…well… uniform of the guard were first picks for my builds. I enjoyed the range of components on the sprues and even after the full team was assembled I had an array of options remaining - perfect for future conversions.. The instructions were clear and well numbered, clearly describing the build variations in the kit. The Traitor Enforcer and Traitor Ogryn were included in this kit and came on their own distinct sprues. I believe these were previously available in the Blackstone fortress set but to me these were new.

For painting I wanted to use a limited colour palette of very bland colours, namely dirty greens, greys, silvers and pinks. Areas of flesh which were few would be a silvered pink with the only bright points on the models being any chaos trinkets or points of energy. I imagined this kill team wandering the dark and grimy corners of some undercity running traitoris errands. The basing choice for these would be a harmonising dark ash rather than my usual choice of a stark contrasting colour. Again, this would reflect the dark undercity.

These traitor guards were great fun to assemble and doing such a limited colour palette was a change for me but it seems to have turned out well. There are a few areas I could continue working on to progress from Table to Parade Ready. I’d welcome any ideas  you may have - perhaps some rust effects or gore on the trophy heads? Let Battle Bunnies know what you’d do with this kit.
