Isstvan or Istvaan?
Today I have just had to go back through all our old posts and change references of Istvaan 3 to Isstvan 3. This puzzled me as my brother and I could have sworn it was Istvaan. I looked into it some more by visiting some Wiki sites and other forums who have also had the discussion.
It does appear that originally it was spelt Isstvan. At some point a GW staffer must have slipped up and changed its spelling. So when Black Library got involved it got changed back to its original spelling.
So as it is referenced as Isstvan in Black Library and Forge World I deem it the correct spelling going forward.
I recognise my failing and will be sure to correct it.

Forge World Cityscape: Isstvan 3 board (Istvaan 3) Day 4
Ok. Now as Khall and I have don't the meat of the Forge World Cityscape boards, it is going to seem like we have not got much extra done, but believe me our Isstvan 3 board is coming together beautifully. So below is yesterday's work we undertook. Please don't forget to follow us on Twitter for on the fly comments, news and pictures. @Battle_Bunnies
Khall firstly went around every board and base coated the Ironwork kerbs with Warplock bronze. He did this with a large citadel brush and slightly thinned it with Lahriman Medium.
He did this for the entire board before sponging Leadbelcher quite liberally (favouring the areas that would get scuffed and worn more) on top of the Warplock bronze. As you can imagine this was very time consuming. It will also be washed near to the end of the project.
Whilst doing this I continued to do the Airbrushing of the tiles. The large Octagon shape building base on the Primus Sector tile was done with a 1:3 mix of Steel Legion Drab, Abaddon black and Mechanicum standard grey for the shadowed recesses (obviously thinning it with AX-20 as in my previous posts), Up to a 50:50 mix of Steel Legion Drab and Mechanicum standard grey for the centre of the tiles.
Khall then encouraged me to do a red base for our Red Mechanicum building. I was really against this but went with it. "You should also do chevrons in the centre too" he said, my response was more than a little explicit. But convinced me with shouts of "think about your painting experience points! You may even level up."
So I agreed. Firstly I sprayed the section with thinned Khorne red after masking off the tiles I wanted to keep black.
This left the base looking like this.
Using strips of masking tape I proceeded to set up chevron lines across the area I wished to spray. It was then coated numerous times with thinned Golden yellow (Yriel yellow), and allowed to dry before the strips were removed.
I then sponged on some thinned Khorne red around the worn bits of the foundation and areas of battle damage to show the chevrons having worn back to the red layer of paint.
This was then accented with further very very sparse chipped areas of 50:50 Mephiston and Khorne red which were lightly sponged onto a few areas of foundation join lines to break up the red.
Then we needed to show battle damage / wear and tear going through all the layers of paint to the true building foundation colours. To get this look, various blacks to grey shades were used. Firstly we did Abaddon black mixed with Mechanicum standard grey at 50:50, through more and more Mechanicum standard grey. All sponged strategically with thought to where it would receive most damage and foot fall wear.
We then sprayed Catachan green (Castellan green) on to the tiled area in front of the red foundation. We are already planning to represent this as a storage yard for barrels and crates surrounded by a wire mesh fence (can't wait to do that).
We ran out of time to carry on with the chipping on the edges of the green tile and the ironwork hatch in the centre. This will be done next time.
We also sprayed up the little Generatorum tank Khorne Red and the surrounding Wall with a Vallejo model air Dark Sea Grey.
The World Eaters arrived moments later, the colour of Blood calling to them.
All in all I am pleased with this building foundation so far. Still lots to do though.
The boards current state. Time elapsed 26 hours.

The Battle Bunnies' Forge World Zone Mortalis.
I still remember when I saw the Zone Mortalis range by Forge World for the first time. I called Khall Sithis and said "Go to Forge World's website right now and look in the new releases." I still remember listening him narrate what he was typing to get there whilst on the phone, before saying . . . . Wow.
Immediately I worked some overtime and ordered enough to make a 3x3 board. It was a whole new dimension to gaming and one which made me break my un-written rule: "you can't play it if it isn't painted." The tactical side of the game was amazing. The close range fire fights was incredible. It became quickly apparent that we would need more. So I ordered another eight tiles giving me a 4x4.
But that was not enough. As soon as I saw the open floor tiles which were released from Forge World I immediately ordered 4 (and sold a spare cross section. That gave me 5x4.
And today I have arrived home to find the last four tiles have arrived. I now have a 6x4 board with around 9 doors as well as the containment tanks and other accessories.
Having gone to speak to Blake at the open day; I decided to beg for some things:
1) I would love to see a Bridge for a star ship. This should be a 2x2 tile. We do need to see things like this as a objective for games.
2) An Engineering tile 2x2 with lots of terminals and a reactor core.
3) A Drop Pod jettison tile. With spaces on the floor to jettison Drop Pods (like in the Game Fire Warrior). A drastic race to leave a crumbling star ship would be amazing.
4) Horus' Throne Room. The final battle will be fought here. And that needs to be bigger than 1x1.
5) More accessories.
6) the side of a starship with optional boarding Torpedo bits which can be removed and placed. As well as gunnery pieces. Silence the guns game anyone? :)
So they are all my wishful thoughts for today. Hope you read this Blake. Doing a great job. Keep it up.
I will do a painting guide for these when I finish the City Board.
In the meantime: It's time for another Zone Mortalis Bath time.

The Horus Heresy Weekender May 18th 2013: Excitement builds.
Here is the artwork for the event exclusive Book for the Horus Heresy Weekender of next month.
It shows two Adeptus Custodes in debate on a bridge, with the Imperial Palace in the background. It also shows an Orbital plate hovering over the Himalayas. I do believe the chap on the left is Constantin Valdor, if so it may be a follow up on the Sigilite book, told from the Custodes perspective.
This whole scene is official fluff.
Sooooo. We will have a snow dusted board at the siege of Terra when it comes about. Also the Orbital Plate is huge as we know. So will there be some exciting Zone Mortalis engagements to be fought inside to gain control of orbital defence emplacements on these plates? I hope so. Huge beautiful Stained glass windows dominate the front of (what I assume is) the palace too which I think that is a nice touch. There is also a gorgeous golden city sitting in the valley, which pleases me to know our City board can be used on Terra (we may need to dust it in fake snow before we game though :)
It was painted by artist Neil Roberts and once again he has done a great job.
Four Bunnies will be going to the Horus Heresy Weekender in May (tickets are still on sale guys everyone which can be purchased from here http://www.blacklibrary.com/Events/hh-weekender.html). The event should herald the release of Fulgrim and give us some exceptional insight to the progress and future of the Heresy. Also we get to be locked away with some of the most inspirational people of our favourite Timeline and Sci-fi galaxy. I may have a pint with McNeil, Swallow, Kyme or Abnett too!!
We will also be having a give away of some Horus Heresy Goodies for our readers at the end of May from the Event, so check back regularly to find out how you can possibly get some Freebies and maybe even some Miniatures from The Horus Heresy range.

Forge World Cityscape: Isstvan 3 board (Istvaan 3) Day 3
Day 3 Khall and I decided to continue our joint effort with the boards. This is the order we did everything and is actually developing into a step by step painting guide. Having seen the board close up at the Openday we agreed to do it in a majority of the same colours as Forge World.
We received a painting guide from them after sending a really polite email. Below is what Blake Spence actually did / used for the board below. They are actually Blake's Emperor's Children too, and actually helped convince Khall to go for Scimitar Jetbikes.

Having already have coated the boards with Adhesion primer we used 1 and a half Chaos Black spray cans to cover the 4x6 board, which were then left to dry.

Roads stage 1:
The road areas were painted first. We basecoated with Karak Stone by soaking a sponge with the paint and the doing the whole road network. Luckily I actually purchased a sponge roller a little while ago when it was hard to find sponges of a certain density. This base coated the roads exceptionally well and saved us so much time. We used 1 and a 1/2 Karak stone paint pots, with a little AX-20 Paint thinner by Tamiya. You can easily get AX-20 on eBay and really recommend it. The roller was from a kids craft set at Hobby craft with a few bits of plastic cut off.
The roads were then sponged sporadically with a mix of Karak Stone and Ushabti Bone to highlight. A ratio of 1:1 was used with a small touch of thinner too. You don't need to be too gentle with this, but try to make it look random. A torn up sink sponge of a certain density will work. Just don't use that flat edge but the torn one (and don't use a dirty one lol).
All boards together.
Khall then sponged a layer of Mechanicum standard grey over every footpath on the board.
With a further sponging of Mechanicum standard grey and [Celesta Grey] over the footpaths again. Eventually at the end another thinner lighter sponge coat of [Celesta Grey] will be added to the highest areas.
At this stage I took off into the other room to start using my airbrush. For those of you who are considering an airbrush: consider no more and just get one. I got a cheap set from Amazon (KMS Airbrush kit AS186 Compressor with tank) which came with 2 Airbrushes and a compressor (air tank which sucks air and stores compresses it; hence the name). It is a good starting point and works well enough to do the things below.
By the by I am a total noob when it comes to airbrushing and have already done the below foundations. Obviously practice a bit before hand and use masking tape.
Ok. First off be brave. I shadow lined using Dryad Bark (thinned to the consistency of milk with AX-20, which I also did for all citadel colours below), and sprayed at a psi of about 20 (which is displayed on the Compressor).
Then with a mix of 2:1 of Karak stone to Dryad Bark I sprayed carefully more to the centre of the concrete plates than the join lines. This gives the piece a lovely shadow. This can be done at 35 psi but allow it to drop for detail and small areas.
Then as I still had some of that lovely mix left I went straight on to this raised piece. Once again I favoured the joint lines and shadowed areas with a low psi of 20 or less.
Then I added Administratum grey, Karak stone and Screaming skull to the dregs of the shadow colour, to give a lovely earthy grey. This was done at 35 psi. Down to 20 for details and steps. Try to use this technique Zenithal-like where you highlight down trying to avoid shadowed areas to get a natural highlight.
For this foundation I used the Vallejo model air paint range (VMA). They come in an eye dropper like bottle and are already thinned for airbrushing. This one was done same as above but with VMA Medium sea grey as the shadow coat.
Followed by VMA Light grey as the main concrete.
Then I moved onto the shattered plaza. This was done with German grey in the shadows and up to VMA medium sea grey for the main slabs.
The second shattered Plaza was painted the same way as the earthy grey foundation above.
This is where we are up to after just 7 hours work including breaks. Both really pleased with how it is looking.
We shall have more time on it next Saturday.

Forge World Cityscape: Isstvan 3 board (Istvaan 3) Day 2
Hi all
Just a quick update to show you how we are getting on.
Boards have been undercoated with Halfords Adhesive primer. This should make the chaos black and all other coats stick better to the tiles. It sprays matt and clear, has a similar look as Lahriman Medium and dries quickly, even though it says leave for 24 hours (which we will). It takes no detail away and is very thin which we are happy about. We made more buildings today and so we now have 4 tiles of completed ruins and we intend to buy some Aquila buildings to make 1 BIG Cathedral centrepiece as well as getting some Sanctum buildings for a long high rise building. Then we are done.
We base coated it black and used a Zenithal shading technique which can be seen in the new issue 400 white dwarf. Sprayed the buildings with a dusting of white from a high angle and then taking the colour we wanted the building to be; gave it a good coating. This gives the building a natural shade.
A Khorne red Mechanicum building. This will be soon be washed and given lots of dusting and powder effects too.
I made a small shed...it kinda looks like a tram. This was sprayed with a Zenithal technique and will be washed and weathered soon. The colour is a Vallejo model Air Dark Sea Grey.
I painted the Hero of the Imperium statue using the Colour guide in the 400th edition white dwarf too. You sponge on a hit and miss basecoat of Sotek Green to represent verdigris of the metal, then apply Warplock Bronze, Runelord Brass and Auric Armour Gold layers to build up the
layers of colour, leaving bits of Sotek Green in the recesses. This is a very good technique.
We did not want to have 2 of the same type of statues on the Forge World City board's Plinths so we constructed a Tomb out of leftover bits. A shrine to some long lost hero...
Please feel free to share ideas and comment. Our Isstvan 3 board is getting there!

Forge World Open Day 2013 Highlights - Pictures!!
Here we go like I promised, pictures for all of you avid Bunnies:
Again this was an amazing day. As a rookie hobbyist this day was enthralling and inspiring for me. Meeting the guys who work at Forge World was a humble experience, especially meeting Alan Bligh who is the Lead Writer. His knowledge and advice was great to have experienced and it was great to see everyone around listening to him talking about himself and future projects!!
If you want to find out more about today, view Khall's post before me as he has greatly explained today's events.

P.s. I didn't win the Reaver :(
