I'm actually quite happy with the force for now, which means I can put them on my shelf and start to focuse on my Thousand Sons once I get my hands on Inferno. That said, I still have a few small units to complete:

- 5 Cataphractii Terminators, Kor Phaerons Command Squad
- 5 more Gal Vorbak
- 5 Ashen Circle
- 5 Heavy Support Marines with Missile Launchers

After that, I also have to finish a few more cultists to use as an allied detachment or as Army of the Dark Compliance! And maybe some tanks or fliers in the far future - not sure yet.

Horus Heresy Word Bearers: The Architect and the Beast

Today I want to share two of my recently finished models for my Word Bearers - Erebus and the Mhara Gal Dreadnought, in case you haven't seen them yet, aswell as my almost finished changeling!

First Chaplain Erebus

Architect of the Heresy

It is unknown when exactly Erebus turned to the worship of the Dark Gods, though it may have happened when the Word Bearers joined with the Luna Wolves to pacify the world of Davin mid-way through the Great Crusade. In any event, when his Primarch Lorgar grew angry with his father the Emperor after he was chastised on the world of Khur for trying to spread worship of the Emperor of Mankind as a divinity across the galaxy, Erebus explained to his master that there were other entities in the universe that were more than willing to accept his worship and the worship of other humans. Several years before the outbreak of the Horus Heresy, Lorgar and Erebus had fully corrupted the Word Bearers to the service of Chaos, even going so far as to erect temples to the Dark Gods on every world they brought into Imperial Compliance. Before long, the Ruinous Powers sought to act through Erebus to set their plan in motion to destroy the Imperium of Man and the greatest champion of Order in the galaxy--the Emperor of Mankind.

Note: Mastercrafted artificer armour, based upon Maximus pattern, freshly repainted with the red of betrayal.

Garavax, the Beast

Mhara Gal Tainted Dreadnought

First encountered during the Battle of Ithraca amidst the catastrophe on Calth, the twisted form of the Mhara Gal Tainted Dreadnought is terrifying in both its aspect and its unearthly power. The first Mhara Gal is believed to have been created from the barely living remains of a Gal Vorbak Dark Brethren and a battle-shattered Contemptor Dreadnought chassis, both recovered from the blood-soaked ground of Isstvan V. Fused together by unholy practices, they were then corrupted by a warp-borne power, giving birth to a new monstrosity – a living engine of war and hatred.

The Word Bearers Mhara Gal Tainted Dreadnought is a fearsome opponent in battle. Wielding a warpfire plasma cannon and tainted power claw, it is formidable both at range and in close combat, its blows slicing through armour and energy fields alike. Its warp-twisted reactor and the daemonic powers gifted to it by dark forces make it all the more deadly, even breaking the bonds of reality around the Mhara Gal to allow it to walk through obstacles as if they were not there at all.

Gal Vorbak, Zone Mortalis and FW weapon upgrades

Today I have a mixed post for you - showing off my Gal Vorbak (well, the first five I've finished now), sharing a project from a friend and taking a look at some of the upcoming Forgeworld Weapon Upgrades.

Gal Vorbak

The Blessed Sons, Dark Brethren, Possessed of the Word Bearers Legion

The Gal Vorbak is a title that, over time, came to refer to any of the Word Bearers who were possessed by the powers of the Warp, but those who later bore the title were a lesser breed of abomination compared to the first of the Legion's brethren who sealed their pact with darkness. The Gal Vorbak were the first of their kind; Space Marines and Daemons fused into a single being.

Converting and painting these guys was really fun as I could add some homage elements from the first chaos books to the models - thanks to some AoS parts. I even could sneak a Marine possessed by a Verminlord into the unit. Next to do is a Mhara Gal Dreadnought aswell as a few characters.

Oh, and some Sisters of Silence arrived recently (the sprues are now guarded by a Silentium Pantherinae ...) - looking forward to work on them.

Zone Mortalis Custom Tile and Forgeworld Weapon Upgrades

Now I would like to share a project by our buddy Col. Hertford. He recently bought a 3D printer and is now experimenting with custom tiles for Zone Mortalis. We chatted a bit and now he's working on a special one for me (an internet cookie for anyone who finds out what it is about). He is still trying things out so it's pretty much just a concept, but it's already looking great:

Last but not least - Forgeworld announced today that you can buy some of the weapon upgrades at the next 40k Open Days - awesome!

I also heard that the Terminator upgrade for Assault Cannons and the Ultramarines Breacher Shields should be available soonish. What Legion specific upgrades would you like to see in the future?

Ultramarines Legion Herald Unboxing

Howdy Guys and Girls :)

Today you can buy the limited edition Ultramarines Legion Herald at your local store - while stocks last. I know that the initial pictures didn't looked that great, but I went ahead and bought one, and need to admit, I quite like him. Not a great fan of his barehead, but you can give him another one or a helmet if you prefer.

The Marine itself is a hommage to Neil Robert's Mark of Calth artwork, and should look great alongside some Suzerains. If you want to use him as Ventanus 'till FW releases a propper one - go for it! He has the right wargear, and both his banner and wrist have the number IV.

Sadly my banner is slightly miscast, but that's nothing unfixable :)

I quite like the spiked bonding studs - Forgeworld, give me more!

The model comes with a datasheet, but I think this one is not different to the stock herald rules (besides the LA: Ultramarines). Still, be careful when you open the blister.

Balanced Lists and what makes yours 'Fluffy'

So tonight Bunny followers I delve into that great question when it comes to 'Lists'. 

What to take and why?

There's been some lengthy talk between us in the Battle Bunnie camp regarding what to take when facing certain opponents. I thought I'd discuss the ever existant conundrum of when to build and list and when to go 'Fluffy'. 

As you can see above one of my favourite characters from the Imperial Fists is Senechal Rann. 

Mainly because he's Sigismund's best mate, he prefers assault tactics and he eventually, like Sigismund, becomes a Chapter Master during the second founding. 

So what to do?

Now like the rest of the Bunnies I like to go for a Fluff feel. Why, well your list has to have 'Character' and by that I mean a back story, a history, something that has a narrative that you automatically bring to the table. 

That way you have a vested interest when it comes to painting them and using them in battles. 

I have a few go to units I like to include all the time. As a result my lists usually include some kind of assault based unit, a few light tanks and then some infantry. I then adjust my HQ's and heavy support according to the potential rival army. 

Some might say you could be heading for a downward spiral. Not many Fluff lists will stand the tide to the insane 'super mega death-star math hammered' lists out there floating around the interweb and blogosphere. 

My question really is where do you as our readers stand?

Do you have a unit that you use every time and build around?

Or do you play a certain way and pick you list accordingly?

Is there a LoW choice you always select or do you have a couple you chose from?

This is the bulk of my go-to units if you like. With a smattering of heavy support and one of my LoW's. 

With the Shadow Crusade weekender coming up to which several of us will be attending we'd like to hear your thoughts.

Horus Heresy Word Bearers: The Blessed Sons

Today I want to share some progress on my Word Bearers - Zardu Layak and his possessed friends. 2 of my 10 Gal Vorbak are already finished *yay*

The Blessed Sons

The Gal Vorbak were said to be possessed of strengths and abilities far above those of other Astartes. It was said that each of the Gal Vorbak was host to some form of Warp entity, itself subservient to the greatest scheme plotted between Warmaster Horus and the nightmare powers beyond. In battle, this being came to dominate the mind and body of the warrior. His already mighty form would swell as hands turned into rending talons and jaws into slavering, fang-filled maws twisted beyond reason and reality. At Istvaan V, the Word Bearers' pact with the horrors beyond was sealed in a great ritual of carnage and betrayal.

Note: Dark Martyr. It is believed this warrior is possessed by a mighty servant of Khorne, as indicated by his face-mutation and scorpion tail.

Zardu Layak, the Crimson Apostle

Thrice-Born, The Binder of Souls, The Voice of the Unspeaking

Zardu Layak's true name is now lost, but it is recorded in his Legion's lore that he was once an officer of the Ashen Circle, a Terran by birth, and a devout destroyer of all that pertained to false superstition and errant creed. He oversaw the burning of a hundred temples and countless tomes of lies in the Emperor's service. That was until the Word Bearer's brutal censure by their ultimate master.

As Primarch Lorgar led his Legion into the wilderness after their punishment on Monarchia, Layak was contrite and ashamed, soul-sick and lost, and quickly a fervent convert to Erebus' and Lorgar's new teachings in which he sought solace, but even this did not fill the terrible void within him. So it was that when he began to receive visions in which he believed his Primarch spoke to him directly, he concealed them from others for fear his shame had driven him mad. In those visions the golden-skinned apparition ofLorgar bade him to reconsider his work, not to burn the books and lore he encountered, but to read them, covet them, to search in them for the hidden truths that the Emperor had not wished his sons to know. Word upon word, rune upon rune, glyph upon glyph was a new creature born, a creature who named himself from the Book of Lorgar, using the ancient practice of Sortilege, as Zardu Layak, "Eater of Wisdom", but who came to be known more swiftly by his Legion as the "Crimson Apostle" for his fiery raiment and the scalding blood in which he daily daubed his armour.

Assigned to the Chapter of the Ochre Gate as its apostle by Erebus, Zardu Layak quickly proved more than a mere voice of the First Chaplain. Soon the chapter began to seek missions of its own, away from its Legion for long stretches, and each time it returned it was further changed. Like a cancer, Zardu Layak had embedded himself deeper into its carcass, so that after a time, the Ochre Gate was no more and now the Chapter of the Unspeaking stood in its place, with Zardu Layak its de facto master. Though First Captain Kor Phaeron was disquieted by the Crimson Apostle's growing power, much of which he would keep hidden until the atrocity on Calth, Lorgar pronounced himself pleased by Zardu Layak and his devotion to the word of the Primordial Truth, assigning the Unspeaking and their master to command a key assault at Calth, though so changed had they become that complete concealment was needed for them until the hour came to strike ...
