Community Focus - Battleground Gaming

Hello everyone

Something a bit different today as I wanted to share more of a community experience than progress of a project. First up - I spend too much of my income on the hobby. Far more than my better half believes lol. I have used many different brick and mortar, websites and visited a large amount of GWs own stores. Some of the web stores no longer exist, run into the ground by their owners. Some have had awful customer service and I have had no end of communication with their staff telling me delivery would be another month (surprisingly this is from one of the bigger and well known online shops) others have good discount but take ages to deliver. I am always happy to give new places a try.

Enter Battleground Gaming. This fairly new company popped onto my radar while I was on Facebook one day, so naturally I made a note to give them my next order. I made my order quite late on a Sunday evening. So late that I in fact made a mistake with my order (ordered Delaque instead of Van Saar - first world problems eh?). So, I immediately popped on to Facebook to see if I could drop them a message as I hate email. I received a message back within 5 minutes from the staff at Battleground, saying that it was no problem they would make sure the correct gang was sent out for me.

The next morning, 8am, I get a message saying that my package is in transit...you read that right! The next day!! That is Amazon levels of speed! Not only did they send it next day but I received it the day after that!! It even came with a pack of Haribo that I could munch on while planning what to tackle first!!

So let me get this straight:
1. Solid discount!
2. Excellent customer service!!
3. Super fast delivery!!!

Not only that but a loyalty scheme too! I have messaged the owner a fair bit since I made the order - he is probably bored of me by now lol - and I just felt the need to support and promote this excellent business. I hope that you will all do the same as it is always amazing to help the community and hard working companies with it.

Stay fluffy!

Remembrance Sunday 2018

Hi all

If you are reading this post today - you have a hobby which revolves around War. Be it gang war, galactic civil war or war in a fantasy world created by the mind of artists - it is important to remember the travesty of war and that we should all strive for a day where the only wars ARE fought with toy soldiers and not spent in the currency of life.

Four years ago I shared with you a poem to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the start of the ‘Great War’ today I would like to share one to commemorate the end:

Why are they selling poppies, Mummy?
Selling poppies in town today.
The poppies, child, are flowers of love.
For the men who marched away.
But why have they chosen a poppy, Mummy?
Why not a beautiful rose?
Because my child, men fought and died
In the fields where the poppies grow.
But why are the poppies so red, Mummy?
Why are the poppies so red?
Red is the colour of blood, my child.
The blood that our soldiers shed.
The heart of the poppy is black, Mummy.
Why does it have to be black?
Black, my child, is the symbol of grief.
For the men who never came back.
But why, Mummy are you crying so?
Your tears are giving you pain.
My tears are my fears for you my child.
For the world is forgetting again.

Author unknown.

The world mustn’t forget what division, racism and prejudice accomplish - death. Everyone is equal, let’s remember the sacrifice of 100 years ago by mending today’s wounds before they turn into another event to remember.

Kill Team Inbound

Hi all!

I have always been keen on smaller, skirmish games and I have been so excited since I saw the new Kill Team. So this morning, between myself and Ghroll we have bought 4 copies!

Now I am going to make a start on 20 Skitarii from Salvatorre IX9, a forge world in the Ultima Segmentum who were instrumental in the rebirth of House Vornherr after the atrocities on Calth (my own fluff) more of which will come in a post later this week.

Age of Sigmar Second Edition Review Part 1

Hi everyone!

We were lucky enough to be sent a review copy of the new Age of Sigmar boxed game to review here at Battle Bunnies. To be honest I don’t really do unboxing videos and I work full time (plus GW only sent us it 4 days before release) so I find it difficult to absorb all the information and form a coherent post in time for pre-orders. So, although I know there are a billion reviews out there now, here is mine. I hope you will find it a bit different. We know the models are amazing quality and the designs are solid (people are even starting to come round to Stormcast), we know the quality of the set, the price and the value and we know that the rules have been added to and clarified more than revamped entirely.  I will look at these areas in this article but I will have a look at the Lore from the new Core Book in a different post this weekend. I am a much more narrative gamer and for me this was the weakest area of Age of Sigmar so that is the area I want to discuss more. Anyway, I digress lol:

Miniatures:
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soul Wars contains 52 miniatures – 33 Nighthaunt, and 19 Stormcast Eternals – providing 2 players with an army each with which to do spectacular battle. Each miniature is push-fit, with no glue necessary, meaning you can have them assembled and ready for war impressively quickly.

The value of this box, for me, is incredible. If you get it from your favourite online store you can even get 25% off! The miniatures are beautifully designed and go together with ease. We will be looking into both armies over the coming week with reviews for both Battletomes.

Gaming Content

Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Soul Wars includes:
– the complete, unabridged Warhammer Age of Sigmar Core Book This is a 320-page hardback book filled with rich history, background and rules you can use to play your games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar in whatever way you see fit. Open Play, Matched play and Narrative Play sections are included, each of which can be tailored to your preference. Contained within:

The full core Rulebook:
- an illustrated and annotated guide showing how to play Warhammer Age of Sigmar in an easy to follow manner.
- A guide to Open Play games, including a Battleplan Generator which helps you choose objectives, special rules and victory conditions; Coalition of Death rules for team-based play (with 3 Battleplans); and in-depth rules for Ladder Campaigns;
- A guide to Narrative Play games, including an annotated example game; a guide to setting up Historical Battles;
special rules and 2 Battleplans for re-enacting sieges; rules and 2 Battleplans for fighting in the tunnels and caverns beneath the Mortal Realms; and Triumph & Treachery rules for 3 or more players;
- A guide to Matched Play games, which allow players to test their mettle in evenly-matched games of skill and tactics with Pitched Battles allowing for different battle lengths, rules for fielding Warscroll Battalions and Allied units and a table of Battle Strategies providing unpredictable objectives and outcomes to challenge even the most battle-hardened general.

Battle of Glymmsforge:
This 32-page booklet sets the scene for the included miniatures – featuring background on the Soul Wars, details of the Stormcast Eternals’ Sacrosanct Chambers and the history of the Free City of Glymmsforge, the most sacred of Sigmar’s strongholds. On top of this is an overview of Shyish – the Realm of Death – and Nagash’s grand plan; part of which includes an undead assault on Glymmsforge. It includes information on each miniature in the box – their place in their army, their abilities and their origins, and Pitched battle profies for each – as well as an inspiring showcase of beautifully-painted models.

Core Rules:
16-page booklet containing everything you need to begin playing games of Warhammer Age of Sigmar right away. Illustrated examples of every mechanic in the game are here, with step-by step instructions taking you through movement, attacking, using abilities, using magic and testing for battleshock. It includes rules for terrain, explanations of Warscrolls, Warscroll Battalions and Battleplans, Realm of Battle rules and Allegiance Abilities. On its own, this is everything you need to set up and play immediately – combined with the myriad optional rules found in the Core Book it’s an incredibly powerful and flexible basis for playing wargames with your miniatures the way you want to.
An 8-page booklet:
- providing essential information about the Age of Sigmar, the contents of the box you’ve just opened and the hobby of collecting, building, painting and playing with Citadel miniatures. Includes an overview of the Nighthaunt and Stormcast Eternals factions, as well as a Battleplan!

Gaming Aids:
- 13 Warscroll Cards are also included: these are handy, small-format cards containing the rules for each unit included in the box.
- 12 14mm, 6-sided turquoise gem dice;
- A 12” transparent range ruler;
- An easy to follow, colour construction guide with step by step instructions for each miniature, making the push-fit models even easier to build
- A Stormcast Eternals transfer sheet.
Also included is a 32-page preview of the Black Library novel Soul Wars, whetting your appetite for further adventures in the Age of Sigmar.

There is a ton of stuff in the box to keep you occupied and everything you need to start playing the game. For me, the one thing that can improve a boxed set is to make a core set with no miniatures and then have a discount code or something for loads of different start collecting forces. There are many different factions in the Age of Sigmar, far more than Warhammer 40,000 (individual chapters and regiments aside lol) so I always wonder how much a boxed set actually appeals to people. If you get the core set with all the books etc you should get 2 codes for discounts on similar sized forces for any faction. But this is just my opinion :)

All in all, amazing set with everything you need to start playing games. Great quality miniatures, gaming aids and the books are stunning. Like I said, I will be going into the fluff in part 2 of the review, an area which doesn’t get discussed quite as much. If you have any questions you would like me to answer on the boxed game please drop a comment and I will respond or add it to the next article.

Stay fluffy :)

New Age of Sigmar Terrain

Hi all!

Not a lot to see at the Age of Sigmar open day but here is some pictures of a new terrain kit coming soon.

For me, this is an awesome kit and definitely one I will be buying a lot of. I have a few reasons that I am thrilled by this kit:

1. There are more solid sections so you can potentially make in ruined dwellings or buildings (something that brings character to the battlefield and setting far better than any writing can!

2. Floors! Enabling more adventurous builds and scope for projects.

3. Doors and windows! What building is complete without them? Lol

All in all, I think this is a fantastic looking kit and I will review it when it comes out!

Hobby Support - Commision Painter

Hi guys!

Looking for a bit of advice really. Some readers may know that I have had a bit of poor health recently in the form of a Pulmonary Embolism. This came at the end of 5 days of solid painting and I feel my inactivity during this period is a big contributor.

Although I am recovering well I am self imposing a 'stay active' approach to life, which massively inhibits my ability to paint. So, I am looking for a bespoke commission painter to help me with some of the more time consuming areas of painting. I have tried some of the ones who advertise and I would say they are next to useless as they have no negotiation as to what is required. Basically I want to paint a model and then pay someone to paint the rest of my models to that standard. No edge highlights, chipping, weathering or bases.

If you know of a company or individual who would be interested in doing some painting for cash, please drop me an email at kaelorylanus@gmail.com with a couple of pics of your work and I will get back to you :)

What do you all think? Will you be doing a Rogue Trader and if so, what would you call them and what is their story?? Please comment below!

Horus Heresy - Last Chance to Buy

Hi Bunnies!

It seems like the Siege of Terra has started and thousands of marines have been discontinued lol!  Today Forge World has put 69 Horus Heresy products up as last chance to buy:

A few items have escaped the culling but even the relatively new Space Wolf and Thousand son stuff is on there. Blood Angels and Dark Angels (who haven't even got their rules yet) are also present!

So have any of you heard what is going on? Are these items gone forever or are we going to potentially get plastic upgrade packs now?

Please comment below and I will update you if I hear anything!
