There was the European Open day today as we all know, where Forge World shared a small amount of what they are working on currently. One thing we are all looking forward to is the new Black book which currently doesn't have a name.
What do we know / have been told will be included.
Legion traits for 16 Legions (Not Vlka Fenryka or Thousand Sons).
Blood Angels, Dark Angels and White Scars will have Legion Traits. They will not have Primarchs in this book but will have the traits which will enable you to build a Legion.
Rites of War (including new ones) for all 16 Legions in this book. This includes a full Gal Vorbak force Rite of War and a full Kacophoni force Rite of War. This will be great to see, and hopefully we will get a taste of Heresy Emperor's Children coming through (lots of bright colours, piercings and handcuffs).
There will be a few new units for the Legions coming through, mainly stuff we have seen recently.
It will provide abilities to build shattered Legion forces. These have been very difficult to balance as could have easily have been a force where you painted a unit up in the scheme of the most effective Legion trait for that given unit (I.e. You may have a Breacher squad and decided to paint as Iron Hands as it would give you a better perk than if you painted it as Raven Guard etc).
Rumours are that the Black Shield force will be either expanded upon or buildable.
Argel Tal will NOT be in this book.
There is a new Titan Legio in this book which has not been seen before.
No information about the battles this book focuses around, but the whole Meduson series of conflicts are what to kind of expect.
That's it. With the base Plastic range incoming I am unsure as to when we will see this book. It could be that GW want to tie it in to their new range which should be coming out end of October. Or they could release it as per Conquest around November after teasing it at a Seminar at the 40k Open Day.
I believe we will see Corax on the 17th of October for sale.
The next which is either Dorn or Alpharius will be shown at a seminar on the same day. It will be done by Israel Gonzalez. As Israel sculpted both Sigismund and Dynatt (and did a fantastic job on Eidolon), these can both be seen as training pieces really. I believe he will be doing both characters at this stage, with Egan starting work on Leman Russ, Freki and Geri. We may see Alpharius or Dorn before Xmas. The other at the HH Weekender 2016 (where book 7 will be shown off) with maybe a teaser of Russ. At the moment I can not be sure who would do Magnus but I would love to see Trish set to it as I believe she is more than capable.
Anyhoo, come back for our Throne of Skulls Horus Heresy report on the 3rd and 4th October and the 40k Open day on the 17th where we will be reporting what we see up ASAP.
Drake Seta
Will there be any special character rules or new units in this book 6? :)
ReplyDeleteNothing has been confirmed as of yet. But I fully believe there will be two characters for each of the iron hands, salamanders and Raven guard legions.
DeleteIron hands: Weyland and Meduson
Salamanders: not sure about these ones. Numeon would not fit in here just yet.
Raven Guard: Agapito and Sharrowkyn
New Raven Guard characters? that just made my day cheers!
DeleteThe new book sounds a bit underwhelming.. But amped for the primarchs! That will leave Khan, the Lion and Sanguinius for 2017 right? Bring it on
ReplyDeleteYeah but they may end up in separate books like Ultramarines and Calth. But yes they could be put in a book together. Dark Angels at Diamat with Sons of Horus, Blood Angels v Daemons at Signus prime and White Scars against White Scars.
DeleteLoads of great stuff! Been going through some of the older black books and legion rites of war in the last few days and it has really made me hanker for the future. I am interested to see this new book but I do feel it will sit next to Conquest and gather dust only to be used for the niche rules available inside (Campaign toolkit?).
ReplyDeleteI am really looking forward to Russ and Magnus - I really hope that they get the rules right as there is a very realistic chance that these 2 will be OP due to fan servicing, but both these characters will have beautiful models.
I literally cannot wait to see the Khan and Sanguinius now too. Really exciting times in the hobby :)
Russ does not need to be fan serviced. They are powerful characters. Russ was the second discovered and will be a close combat beast, while Magnus will possibly be the strongest all round Primarch.
DeleteTrue, but I hope they will find a way to balance them wisely. Transfigured Lorgar is already a beast and Magnus will probably outmatch him both physically and psychically. If Russ has no near-OP psy defenses or monstruous combat skills, TS players will probably win the rematch without a sweat...
DeleteRuss must be challenging enough to kill him... and so he would actually steamroll the rest of his brother Primarchs too. I can't see how they COULDN'T be overpowered. Maybe FW will make alternative profiles for the Battle of Prospero as they did with Corax on Istvaan. Angry Russ against Depressed Magnus, fight!
But Kaelo is right, players will easily forgive Magnus and Russ for being stupidely violent on the tabletop... I just hope FW won't make Leman some kind of flawless close combat killer while Angron is such a glass cannon. He is a beast, but being the Emperor's Executioner is not an excuse for that.
If I recall; the Lord of Winter and War has a Psychic bitch slapping Howl (but it has been a while since I read a Thousand Sons.
DeleteBut lest is not forget that the Thousand Sons could be the hardest Legion. It was only the addition of the Sisters of Silence that balanced the war on Prospero out. I would have no problems with the Legion being of Stock list stuff, with their only special rule being the Brotherhood of Psykers special rule. Maybe a few special staffs and Swords but that's it.
Like your depressed Magnus idea lol.
I do think his rules will be akin to Corax's when it comes to Combat.
But isn't it true that with Mathammer that Horus is toughest with Guilliman somehow second. I just hope he gets above Guilliman.
Depends how quick you kill Guilliman. Given enough time Guilliman could adapt to beat any situation. It would take him more than a standard game length to beat most of his brothers so it won't effect games. Russ should be able to inflict massive damage straight off the bat but would need to kill Guilliman ASAP. Given time Guilliman would work it out. Angron needs to be revisited though and maybe take another look at Roboutes rerollable invun lol.
DeleteSome interesting stuff, as with many others I'm eagerly awaiting Russ, and have been for the best part of 20 years now! Haha
ReplyDeleteI hope the black books get back on track soon, as with the BL series the latest releases feel like all filler no killer.
I'll get at the 40k open day so looking forward to seeing what is said
I have to agree but I think they're aware of that. The impression I get is that they're doing sets of trilogies i.e. Vulcan will have three books. Plus have we all seen this?!
Deletehttps://aarondembskibowden.wordpress.com/
Less filler
I'm pretty excited by the sounds of that book.
DeleteAgain, BL need to get a wriggle on before all thief best authors leave the series, I think we're two down already?
Thought it was called War in the Webway, Master of Mankind is a bit better! Thanks Shane can't wait for that book.
DeleteI really can't wait for the next book! I really want to see how they plan on working out the shattered legions working together.
ReplyDeleteGreat way to mix up the painting and still be able to field it all!
I can't wait for Corax and Dorn. So far, they're the only other primarchs i really want to get.
Thanks for all you do bunnies!
No Probs Brandon.
DeleteMagnus and Sanguinus definitely top the list as the primarchs most like fantasy characters. I'd be tickled to see Trish Carden on either one.
ReplyDeleteI just hope Sanguinus doesn't come out looking like that God awful
DeleteCelestant-Prime miniature...
Simon wants to do Sanguinius and he already has has weapons and a pose in mind...
DeleteSounded totally amazing. Although the decision on weapons wouldn't be his.
He also mentioned a 2nd version with Horus and The Emperor but that would be a long, long way off.
All sounds fantastic and I can't wait. The 4 remaining Primarchs I'm most looking forward to are: Sanguinius, Russ, Corax and Magnus, in that order.
I remember having a discussion with him about him releasing a piece which recreates the cover of Primarchs. You should have seen the passion and love in his eyes. Honestly don't think we could have a nicer more approachable sculptor of the Key figures of Games Workshop. His skill is incredible. His second (maybe it was his first) Fulgrim was absolute perfection too and I hope to see that eventually.
DeleteYeah I met Simon Egan at the Weekender 2015 & and he was so passionate and open, really made me feel welcome. Such an incredibly nice guy, huge fan of his
DeleteDid your agent hear any more about space wolves? BoLs is reporting more. I'm a bit confused as to why FW are still working on the wolves insignia considering all the other legions released so far match up with Collected Visions to some degree AND FW already released art with a red wolfs head on the shoulder guard?
ReplyDeleteThat is a jumping the gun comment. That insignia and those Legionnaires have been on display at events for a year or more. Just a place holder. They will be trying lots of different looks from the original little ones circa RTB01 to present. Personally I feel the standard red ones are perfect.
DeleteThe Blood Angel, White Scar and Dark Angel bits were done by Steve Whitehead. He is on Sigmar stuff now. Don't expect Thousand Sons stuff (we have seen knock up helms and sketches at previous events) or Vlka Fenryka bits for the rest of the year.
Thanks for all the updates fellas. Really hope they move the heresy train along soon. Been waiting for Prospero too long now! ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's very very big. It needs such a high amount of content and new models. Other issue is: If GW are doing a 40K end times then Custodes will not be done by FW. Should this situation arise then we could see the book delayed until after they are released (Skitarii and Knights are a perfect example of this happening previously). Still we should see it by Forge World UK open day or 40k Open day (a possible place to start an End times for 40k, considering they are possibly releasing the 30k box set this year).
DeleteAlso, a nice little information bit is that 30k Skitarii are indeed in the works, Marc Bedford designed some 30k Skitarii upgrades but he must wait for the OK from the management to publish them - they are currently planned for the Mars book alongside other 40k ad mec stuff like electro priests and knights^^
ReplyDeleteFor the books, it seems like we will get Retalitation (Shattered Legions vs IW) > Prospero (with the basic models out before the book hits!) > after that either Signus/Thramas or Mars, depends on how fast they are and how many Marines they have left to produce :P
Also, the HH Masterclass book should be out ~ Christmas :P YEAH!!!!
Oh, and Dark Mec is in the works too, but currently rules only, as the Dark Mec has only started experimenting with Daemons (they use them as fuel f.e. O.O)
Deletereal Daemonengines are later in the Heresy^^
Hi. Yeah I read that too. Brilliant news.
DeleteInterested to see where they will fit. seems as though there still is just so many Campaigns out there that they need to do.
The name of book 6 Retaliation I was told by some one was the name for book 7 (Vlka and Thousand Sons), and that Inferno had been cast aside. This may have been someone getting their wires crossed though.
Is it really meant to be Shattered Legions vs Iron Warriors? If so that is cool. Hope we would see the Iron Circle and Forrix if that is the case. A Rite of war to use the Stor-Bezashk would be very cool.
Yeah I love that whole spiel of "That Reactor at the back . . . I wonder what would happen if we stick a daemon in there"
A conflict based around Corax Soulforge would be fantastic. The Story could be a great campaign.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteHrr... had a whole comment typed and then did sth stupid...
DeleteI can't confirm Shattered Legions vs. IW.
It is a whole 16 Legion all-vs.-all ruleset. Fluffwise it is explain like this.
- mid-war many legions have shattered Forces wandering around not able to regroup, especially in the south-east where the ruinstorm haunts.
- These are not specific to Isstvaan Surviving Loyalists but fractions of all legions
- another example may be a Traitor Headhunter force sent by Horus to kill Isstvaan Legions. But it could also be a White Scar traitor force. fleeing from the Khan getting cought by a Loyalist Night Lord Force fleeing from the Nighthaunter.
- The resulting conflicts are rather small and are called "shadow wars".
In Terms of timeline. Someone (i guess it was Domenik Oedinger) said, that it's 3 months from final design to Arrival of the prints and sale. And because they want to release before Christmas this week (or maybe next) seems to be the last Chance for changes. So the design has to be almost finished now.
Info regarding Book VI is from Andy Hoare, btw.
DeleteCheers Arachn4. Before Xmas is what I have heard too. Can imagine it as an end of November release.
DeleteBattle Bunnies excellent work, congratulations, but I have a question, when Simon began to sculpt primarchs, he said that the sculpting process lasted about 3 or 4 months, it is still maintained? because Simon just with Roboute few months ago, he is not currently working on any primarch?
ReplyDeleteStill true. Doesn't mean it is automatically released though. Sometimes they wait for the next big event to release it. I remember one event hearing that another Primarch had been finished but as the event had one Primarch released that day they would wait for a couple of months before releasing it.
DeleteSimon probably has finished one and started his next at this point.
If Simon really does start working on Russ soon that'll me amazing.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, he told me once that the wolves would actually be his legion, so he's really looking forward to sculpting him.
Really can't wait for prospero... and hopefully soon after... Signus or Mars.
2016 could be the most exiting year ever.
Yes he is very passionate about Russ (awesome). He even posed how he wanted to sculpt him and it sounds very impressive. Quite similar to Prosperous burns cover. Quiet intensity.
DeleteNew rites of war sounds nice for all legions as well!, hoping for a 'fast' one that lets you do something with bikes and speeders. As for new units, the mastodon and I can't think of any others, I'd like to think those terminators from meduson might make an appearance in the book!
ReplyDeleteI must have Dark Angels...
ReplyDeleteAlso, someone mentioned earlier in the comments that White Scars fought White Scars. Could someone fill me in on that? Thanks
Check out scars, lets just say the Khan's hands off approach is called into question...
DeleteSome of the White Scars went a bit rebel with the influence of warrior lodges.
DeleteMortarion confronted the Khan and tried to turn him to chaos.
Check out the Horus Heresy novel: Scars.
Will do. Thanks!
DeleteDoes this mean we can see alpharius or Dorn before Xmas ? I mean does they release them ? i would be very happy about dorn :)
ReplyDeleteLol, Corax for New Years maybe...
ReplyDeleteIt'll be Easter before I would expect both Dorn and Alpharius (not forgetting Omegon)...
DeleteHi David. Corax will be on sale on the 2nd of January at the event.
DeleteI believe it is Alpharius next at HH weekender followed by Dorn at FW open day.
