Betrayal At Calth Pictures

Hi all!

Look what Drake found here:

The first images for the plastic set are coming out:

Nice cover art showing the Cataphractii Praetor against a MK4 Chaplain!

Just a guess but it looks like cards are involved lol

The long awaited Contemptor in plastic! I can see a multi-melta and a Kheres assault cannon (thank the Emperor for the latter)

Here is a picture of it all in action:

So it looks kinda cool and so far ticks many of the speculated contents:
Stand alone board game
30 MK IV marines
5 Cataphractii
1 Contemptor
1 Praetor
1 Chaplain.

Here are the old pictures from a few months ago:

Rumour has this priced at around £100/$150. Not a bad price for the contents involved...shame about the monopose Dreadnought though lol

What do you all think?

  1. At least there is grounds for the Forge World Contrmptor to remain viable.

The front has the Chaplain character which is present.

  2. The models are painted all cartoony, but I suspect with a dirty paint jog, the will do.

Btw, I think the contemptor weapons are a multi melta and assault cannon.

  4. Sweet baby Jesus. It finally officially begins. Me and my father are so pumped we can't wait.
Shattered legions and Thousand sons here we come.

  6. Something big is happening...GW and FW web stores are both down!

  7. I'm not going to lie, a little disappointed with the contents. My friend is delighted though, this will be his Word Bearers force right here.

  8. The insignia on the shoulder pads do look like new Transfers for the Word Bearers. Hope there are some in the box.

    1. Specifically they look like chapter insignia. That's the Twisting Rune symbol, unless I miss my guess.

    2. Good spot! Yep, that *is* the twisting rune chapter, isn't it!

  9. Hang on... Wouldn't the vast majority of Word Bearers be in grey at Calth?

I'm sure it said that in Know no Fear.

Anyway, tempted to get one or two of these and start a new legion.

    1. That was Isstvan V. At Calth I believe all were red.

I'm hoping to get one for my Legions on Day 1. Very excited.

    2. No worries. My memory isn't as good as it used to be.

      Might do a pre-heresy mixed-legion force.

    3. Well, I'd like a mix of Night Lords and Raven Guard. Mostly assault focused.

Not sure if this ties up with the fluff tho. I know they fought together but not sure if they had mk IV armour at that time.

Another option would be Ultras and Fists... after seeing the new artwork at the 40k open day.

  10. Looks nice and I will pick up at least one. I've been holding off building up my Ultramarine troops for the past 6 months to see whether there would be plastic MkIVs.

I am curious to see how the plastic and the FW resin mix - that will be the decider.

    I like the cards though!

  11. I am hoping for multiple armor marks eventually- so I can customize some Istvaan loyalist survivors.

This box is great. It will allow me to expand my RavenGuard and build some Alpha Legion and maybe more!

    1. My prediction has no evidence but; I can imagine a similar box in a year's time which begins to delve into the Great Crusade to further marry up the Xenos and Legion games. I could imagine that being mark 2 and 3 heavy (maybe based at Ullanor).
There has been mutterings that they are carefully reviewing how this box does. So let's hope well. Considering they are doing so well out of the Horus Heresy at the moment I can imagine them wanting to see what the Great Crusade will do too.

    2. Not sure about the year timeframe. GW at the moment seems to be going big on something or not at all. Apart from the two standalone board games - and both of them used existing components or things that could be recycled.

The 32k novel series is all mapped out so people know what they are getting into there. If Calth is not a standalone board game then I would expect to see more sooner rather than later. Given that the entire set is made up of new spures and thus new tooling this won't be limited to a single limited box.

  12. I'm still in two minds whether to buy it but it does look good, especially for those that have been waiting to get in to 30k

  13. I'll be getting three or four I think. That will allow me to build three 20 tactical squads, 3 fully loaded tact support squads (melta, flamer, plasma), two fully loaded support squads (missiles, heavy bolters). The termies will split, half in the new army, half for my death guard. Three contemptors for the new force, one for the DG. That's the plan depending on price and availability. Just need to decide the legion.

    1. Sounds awesome. Planning on doing that but on a smaller scale. Funds is obviously holding me back.

    2. Sounds like a plan! If those plastics work with FW resin parts then I will buy a few as luckily I want the backbone of my force to be MkIV.
