The Beast Arises

Hi all

Got a nifty email through from Black Library yesterday.

Quite a statement (including the fact book 1 is a Dan Abnett book).

So it is set around the 32nd Millenium. It's books all have the "the beast arises" tag in the top right and it is going to run for a whole year.

Just pondering that this may be the Stories for a series of Campaign books for GW which could get announced on the 17th?

If so, with GW selling Horus Heresy Plastic kits soon, this could be a "you can build a 30k force to fight in the Horus Heresy and combine it with your existing plastic range of 40k Space Marines to fight your Xenos friends" kind of series.

Just thinking aloud.

Join us on 17th to find out more.

  1. For me, this is the perfect way to increase sales and it's very clever. It gives GW the ability to stock the plastic kits (MK4 is late GC so this explains the lack of MK3 & 3 plastic kits so far). Also, it stops GW stepping on FWs toes as *SPOILER ALERT* all the Primarchs are MIA at this point and Legions will be chapters and entirely different. It doesn't really open too many doors as the only Xenos are still Eldar, Dark Eldar and Orks...however maybe these lists will be updated to have a 30k compatibility. Exciting stuff.

  2. I fully expect Ork and Eldar list for 30k at some point. Eldar "helped" to destroy traitor forces a number of times, and Orks took advantage of the chaos to expand. But I would rather see custodes first tbh... Unless the build a gargant

    1. Orks, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Exodite Eldar, Necron Kanoptec, maybeeee early Genestealers, Hrud, Kroot (?) could all appear for the HH^^ but i guess they (FW) want to finish the main-players first^^

    2. That would be an excellent question for the up coming 40k open days. Are the bunnies going?

    3. We are going on the saturday. We have asked about Xenos before though and they said they would never be doing them.

  3. I'm rather excited about this series^^ We get Ork Deathstars!! Isn't that awesome?

    Little background information:

The series was planned as early as 2011/2012, they wanted to finish all writing before releasing it (to avoid what happened with the HH - writers ran out of time and the schedule is delayed). It's probably like the Macharius series and unrelated to any tabletop - but right, you could use HH plastic models for that era too^^

Keep in mind that the HH sprues were made in 2015 (god thanks for that, back then they wouldn't have the techniques to make them like the FW kits)^^

  4. Hiya! Speaking of the Macharian Crusade, does anybody know when the omnibus is due to come out? The same with the Mechanicus Explorator trilogy, which disappeared off the radar some time ago. I missed the opening titles in the series and am still waiting to get them in paperback. :-(

  5. Knowing what the beast accomplished in this time frame makes me crazy excited for this series.

    1. Are we thinking the same thing? About the Grand Master of the Officio Assassinorum? ;)

  6. Hmmm well I'm curious about this... but not sold yet.

Honestly, this teaser seems a bit "too much". Sounds like GW is running some epicness race. "Hey it is almost as big as the Horus Heresy, read it !".
Revelations? HH has already plenty of them. Unexpected twist? Same as above. Legends will return? *SPOILER ON* Seriously the loyal Primarchs and the big heroes of the HH have been out/dead for just a millenium, let them take a break ! XD *SPOILER OFF*

I don't say it will be bad, but I don't want this to be some kind of "The Horus Heresy: Legacy" while the HH cycle has still hidden tricks and revelations for the 31+k settings. The background they chose could be awesome for a book or a short saga, but there is no way it can compete with the Heresy in term of twists, revelations and mythological stuff as a whole serie. If they try too hard, it will look artificial.

I just hope they will avoid puffing, unwelcome poping-from-nowhere revelations and cameo; an efficient and original discovery of this unknown period would be great enough. :^)
If GW wants to make dirty twists and compromising revelations during mysterious and undocumented eras of the imperial history, then they should write some stuff about the Nova Terra Interregnum or the Age of the Apostasy! <3 <3 <3

But don't get me wrong, I am not pessimistic, just careful. ^^ I can't wait to learn more about it as expanding the background is always cool and some authors can make this new serie the big apocalyptic event it is supposed to be! :^D

    1. Maybe this is the new start. Maybe this is the "lets rewind a bit and fill in some blanks in 32k" this year. Hit 33k next and keep going until we hit 40k again.

I do think they shouldn't build it up as "the biggest thing since the Horus Heresy" cos that will just not be true. But could be an exciting time :)

    2. well, it looks bad for Terra :X

but it's funny - shouldn't be the first black crusade the biggest thing since the HH?

  9. Intriguing stuff. Nice to see something new coming along, although sandwiching it between 30K & 40K makes it not as innovative as it could be. Might indeed be a way of getting those plastic kits out and would explain why the sprues were configured around chapter rather than legion units. Who knows, all shall be revealed soon though.

Artwork is pretty grim dark with realism.

  10. Games Workshop said long ago that they would never move the story on but they would flesh out the time between. I am excited for it but will never play in an era where Guilliman is dead ever again....I love him too much :(

    1. It is probably the reason Tau gamers have had so many releases at the moment "here you go guys. Some lovely bits for you to play with, have fun". Then they gun it to 88 and go back to 32k. Great Scott! The community has been too vocal for too long regarding Squats, so much so that GW made a comment in 6th ed saying "the Squat home worlds are thriving" thereby bringing them back completely into the fiction. Now this period between 31k and 40k could be totally written and made canon instead of 29,000 years of legend.

Perfect place to bring back the Squats (and get rid of them again), kill the Tarellian Empire further and destroy a huge Hrud invasion.

But that would make sense and sell models so I'm not expecting it . . .

    4. Rebirth of the Squats... So many bad things about GW's policy will be forgiven if it actually happens... 8^O_

    5. i would be perfectly fine with them being written into the back history with the knowledge that in the future they are going to be wiped out again ... as it stands now ... when they removed them ... there is also little history from before that left as well ...

but you are right, it would make to much sense ... but one can hope.
