Betrayal at Calth - and FW Legion bundles

Howdy Guys and Girls!

Depending on where you live, FW will have new Legion Bundles up when your Betrayal at Calth sets are up for pre-order on your GW site - pretty cool!

Word Bearers or Ultramarines? Or a different Legion? What are you going to build with your set? Let us know in the comments!

Last but not least, GW released a little video:

regards,
Lady Atia

Photos are coming in from the New Zealand site too:

  1. A lot of these bundles just don't work imo - they're the wrong mark of head to go with mk IV bodies.

Anyway, can't wait to order a couple of BaC boxes tomorrow morning. Very excited.

  2. Nice. It is quite funny for them to to show the box set along with stuff that has nothing to do with that game. I'll probably get two boxes to make up two full tactical squads and some support squads for my Ultramarines.

If the game looks interesting enough I might pick up another to make up either WB or maybe Alpha legion force for a bit of casual play.

  3. Awesome stuff Lady. These truly are core boxes. Looking forward to seeing some in our local Milton Keynes store tomorrow. Hopefully will get my hands on them and get some shots of the board etc (and White Dwarf).

    2. Update: will sleep over it, but yeah, i will probably get the WB bundle alongside the FW WB contemptor, and one normal box from GW :P

  4. I'm planning on making an ultramarines force along the lines of the one from unremembered empire. So lots of ultras and some other legions mixed in.
Any suggestions for the additional legions?

    2. As Atia says Imperial Fists. Raven guard and Iron Hands get some mention in Unremembered Empire.

  5. Interesting paint schemes on the legionaries - wonder if we will get them in the HH masterclass book instead of the old ones?

Oh, and that DG pic reminds me to paint my DG mark IV tactical veteran squad some day xD

    1. I am wondering that too. They really have been holding back the HH masterclass book in my opinion. Must be down to the plastic kits and new paints being within. I Liked the Dark Salamanders with the Autocannons which were On FW site, but I am slightly getting on board with the bright one in the pics above.
I do admit I am not 100% on board with the heads sitting on torsos of different marks of armour.
But then again if people want to do it they should.

    2. While the paint schemes are nice, I find some of them have too much of a "40k vibe" to me, with bright colours (I guess the mkIV being similar to mkVII doesn't help). I personally prefer the dirtier, matte schemes of Forgeworld, although some of the schemes of these pictures are quite good (ie. the WB veteran tactical squad with FW addons, but no so much their army picture of the core set).
Some helmets and torsos look strange in the mkIV, and I'm generally not a fan of mixing marks, but there are some interesting combinations.

PS: sorry for the rant-spam below, I am very happy with this new set, but I have the feeling that GW is starting to exert more influence on FW, and it's sad to see that some decent bundles were gone with the old website and the new ones save you much less money. Moreover, FW increased prices some days ago, probably knowing that the new box might lure people into the Horus Heresy.

    3. Yeah those word beaters do look too bright, inch preferred the darker FW scheme but I guess they have had to tie these in with whatever GW had painted for the release?

    4. Not the usual standard of painting here. What is currently coming from the Bunnies is far superior. Some of these FW offerings are outright just odd.

    5. These are rushed paint jobs and done to sell kits to 40k ers. I get the feeling, these have been rushed to get the bundles out. Poor show FW.

The salamanders and alpha legion look worst imho. Where's the nice metallic sheens gone?

  6. Those legion customization bundles wil be available in the FW store to buy them alone, or are only available toghether with BaC boxes? I've already "ordered" one box in my FLGS, and I don't intend on getting another box at the moment, but I would fancy some IF upgrades at a discount price.

    1. Ok, just resolved the doubt myself by getting in the NZ Forgeworld website. Similar bundles to the ones you could get in the old website, but with the priced hiked from 38 to 44 pounds. Well played, GW, well played...

    2. Sorry for the triple post, but I just made some calculus.

      - The "upgrade set" (10 shoulder pads, 10 torsos and 10 heads for 44 pounds) has a discount of 0,5 pounds (individual prices: 10, 11,5 x2 and 11,5 respectively = 44,5).

      - The "Task Force" has a total discount of 3,5 pounds from taking every product separately (6 packs of torsos are 69 pounds, three packs of shoulder pads are 30, three packs of heads are 34,5, and the box is 95. 69 + 30+ 34,5 +95 = 228,5).

      - The "Legion's Armoured Might" has a 8 pound saving on a 450 bundle (armoured proteus 93 + rhino bundle 100 + legion glaive 170 + box 95 = 458). That's a 1,7% saving.

      - The "Legion Devastation Force" has a saving of 1 POUND. (3 boxes 285 + techmarine 22 + cerberus 105 + typhon 105 + spartan 105 + storm eagle 99 + achilles 74 + sicaran 76 = 871 pounds). Yeah, they will give you an amazing and exclusive poster, but that is not the point of a bundle, at least in my opinion.

The old FW bundles didn't save that much money, but the new ones are coming dangeroulsy close to the "one click collections" from GW page.

    3. Hello Elzender and welcome. I see what you are saying in your 4 posts above. We were fearing that GW would turn up with their "It's all about selling models" thinking and state: you have Legion Specific heads for these Legions, Create the bundles and lets make some cash.
The IH, IF and DG (I thought were) MKIII heads.
The WS, WE and IW (which I actually believe are MKIV by their look) are MII
RG heads are MKVI and putting them on MKIV is full on cash in.
The rest are MKIV (apart from Salamanders which are mixed and the NL which are Terror Squad MKIV).

One click inventions are a terrible thing to have in my opinion. I would prefer to bag it myself than click one of them.

Yeah some of the paint schemes have lost some of their gritty 30kness.

    4. The concept of the bundles itself it's not bad, it is great to have the option to buy a pack ready to customize your force, even if mixing marks is not a great appeal for most of us (I am open to certain mixings, or if it is to represent a late heresy army, actually I will make one or two squads with mixed marks to represent them on the Siege of Terra).

The problem for me comes when those bundles give close to no benefit compared to buying individual components. We know that GW is really fond of "0 discount bundles", but most of the FW ones had some appeal and there was always a little discount, and it was usually bigger in the more expensive bundles: the chaos titan maniple is 1160 pounds (I don't think I'll ever spend that much money on a single warhammer purchase ever), but has a 161 pounds discount, over 10% discount on the original price of 1321. I don't even want to calculate the % on the Legion Devastation Force. And that smells of GW.

BTW, the main reason of my rant is that I lost the opportunity to get the "legion upgrade sets" bundles when they got some real benefit, and now that I had the opportunity to go to Warhammer World and get some FW goodies they have risen prices, so basically I'm being a bit of a butthurt :D ,

And many thanks on keeping us informed, you're doing a great job!

    5. No bundles are great, but the one click bundle is not really needed unless you are after it as a Xmas present. We are currently preparing for a Titan Maniple group purchase, this is a great deal.

Forge World are a great company. Give them a call, I'm sure they can help you out. They always help us out! Customer service of a small company awesomeness of a large one.

    6. Well, I'm not sure they'll accept selling me the upgrade sets with the old price :D, but it's true that I always hear that their customer service is really nice. Anyway I'm going to WW shortly and I will definitely get something from their store.

  7. I'd already got some ec heads and bits in advance and they're already being painted.

With 2 boxes I'll be up to 8000 points of EC and will be running 2x20 tac squads from calth. 10 marines will be gaining spellcrow guitars and skin tabards with heads from kromlech for a second kakophoni squad. 2 will see my choom support squad up to ten. 6 more, crew for my 3rd party quad guns which leaves two to do something with!

    V V V V EXCITED!!!!!

  8. The plastic minis definitely look better with some FW resin attached. I agree that some marks of armour look funny when mixed together, but I do do it all the time to show the constant upgrading and replacing required by war :-)
