Daemons of the Ruinstorm: The Bloodgod's footmen

Howdy Guys and Girls :)

This week I want to give you a little overview about my Daemons of the Ruinstorm - starting with Khorne.

Why Daemons?

Well, I loved the picture of corrupted Marines (Word Bearers at Calth) marching alongside their summoned daemonic allies since I first read Codex: Chaos and the 3,5 Codex: Chaos Space Marines.  On top of that, Fear to Tread and Know no Fear were also some of my favourite novels. Last but not least - Forgeworlds' Samus is just cute - I can't resist that model!

What have I planned for this?

I want to start with a little allied detachment for my Word Bearers - representing some Daemons summoned to the surface of Calth. Here is my list so far:

- Skulltaker and Karanak
- Two Heralds of Khorne
- Herald of Khorne on Bloodthrone

- One pack of Bloodletters
- One pack of Bloodcrushers
- One pack of Fleshhounds
- One Skullcannon
- Two Blood Slaughterers (representing "pure" Daemon-engines, similiar to Juggernauts)

- Greater Bloodthirster of Khorne (representing Ang'grath the Unbound)
- Samus, Daemonprince of the Ruinstorm

In order to use them also as a primary detachment, I may add another unit of Bloodletters and some Furies in the future. Forgeworld did a great job with Samus and Corbax, and I hope we will see more new Daemons in the next years!

And now - let's take a look at Khornes' footmen ...

Bloodletters

Khak'akamshy'y, The Slaughterkin, Lesser Daemons of Khorne

The daemonic hordes of Khorne are largely made up of ferocious Bloodletters. These Lesser Daemons are deadly warriors believed to have been foremost amongst the Blood God's followers in mortal life and whose will is as implacable and blood-hungry as that of Khorne himself. Sharp, needle-like teeth stud a Bloodletter's slavering jaws. Its serpentine tongue constantly flickers to taste the spilled blood of those it slays. Rippling muscles lie barely concealed beneath the Bloodletter’s scaly red hide, knotted sinews that give the strength sufficient for its jet-black claws to pierce the most unyielding armour. This might is guided by a killing instinct that surpasses that of mortal men. A Bloodletter is unburdened by any other thought or compulsion than to reap the lives of Khorne’s foes and claim skulls in the name of its divine lord. They carry massive Warp-metal swords known as Hellblades, great two-handed weapons that cut effortlessly though any armour crafted by mortals.

Bloodcrushers

Khar'ak'jumakoshy'y, Daemonic Knights of Khorne

Only the strongest Bloodletters can hope to claim a Lesser Daemon of Khorne known as a Juggernaut as their mount. Such an undertaking is not for the weak, for a Bloodletter must drag forth its chosen mount from the Blood God's stockade and survive long enough to break the homicidal steed. Many aspiring daemons have leapt upon the back of an enraged Juggernaut, only to be thrown and crushed into an unrecognisable smear. However, once mastered, a Juggernaut becomes the most lethal of all war-mounts. Those who succeed become Bloodcrushers, Daemonic Knights of the Blood God, the resulting daemonic cavalry adding a new weapon to Khorne's arsenal. Bloodcrushers are feared for their almost unstoppable charges. They rush headlong into the thickest part of a battle, scattering opposition as pounding hooves pulverise those not quick enough to avoid the charge. Stunned enemies are relieved of the burden of their heads as the rider’s black Hellblade comes crashing down through their necks. The resultant spray of arterial blood rains down into the crushed forms that lie beneath the Bloodcrushers' feet, creating rings of carnage that leave behind a battlefield dotted with crimson circles of suffering.

Painting these guys was pretty fun, and a nice refreshing change to Marines - it also gave me the opportunity to experiment with glazes and inks. Hope you enjoyed them :)

regards,
Lady Atia

    4. As a little kid I used to get sick because of the deamons. They were so gross. Now not so much. Still gut wrenching but in a good way.

  2. Wow, these look amazing!

Not been tempted to start the b@c box yet?

I bought some blood letters and plague bearers to paint with my five year old daughter because of your thread on B&C.

    1. Thanks :)

Still waiting for the upgrade kits, and I need to finish some of the daemons this month, or I'll be turned into a Bloodspawn Q.Q

Awesome! The new plastic daemons are great models, and Nurgle is always cool to start for kids (that's how I started painting - with some old plastic Death Guard and metal Plague Bearers ^.^)
