Sons of Horus First Company Update 3

Hello all!

I have done very little painting in the last week and the 11 Justaerin are still waiting to be finished. What hobby time I have found I haven't fancied doing any painting, instead I have spent the time doing some other small bits and pieces.

I have moved my 20 Reavers onto 32mm bases and while I was doing so also upgraded the 2 units with 3 power swords each. Whilst removing them from the 25mm bases I knocked one of the bolt pistols off and decided that a plasma pistol would look cooler so added one in!

As I was messing around with the bases I added some assorted rocks to them to get them ready for undercoating. Having started this I carried on and added rocks to all 30 Justaerin and my 2 contemptors as well. I will have to base coat the rocks on the Justaerin by hand.

I will be getting the airbrush out soon and laying down an undercoat on the Reavers and Contemptors ready for a couple full days of painting I have planned. I may also undercoat the Dreadclaw that I have built, and try and get a second one built to do in this batch as well.

I have also been working on a character conversion to be able to use during our upcoming campaigns. I had originally planned and built him as a Praetor but once I had decided to concentrate on the First Company I realised that this wouldn't really work. Abaddon is really the 'Praetor' character in the First Company and at a push you could say that Falkus Kibre (Lead the first company in Abaddon's absence) could also fit as a 'Praetor' although I see him as more of a Centurion. Kalus Ekkaddon is also named as the Captain of the Reavers and again would fit in as a Centurion. So with the Preator and 2 centurions already named, I plan on doing models for both Falkus and Kalus, I had the idea of making my character a Chaplain.

Above you can see that he is armed with a power fist and sword. My current plan if he is to become a Chaplain would be to replace the sword with a Crozius, possibly the one from Betrayal at Calth. My other idea is that I will use him as a Preator but paint him green rather than black and fit him into another SoH company rather than the first. He is still very much work in progress and I plan to add some more bits, etched brass, to Sons of Horus him up a bit more!

Happy hobbying!

  1. Awesome! These look quality. I really like the chaplain. I found the Reavers were hard to stick to bases due to so little contact area lol.

    1. Lol! They were a pain! Had to find ways to hold them in place while they glued!

    1. Thanks! I may well make a different Chaplain, based on a Reaver or one of the SoH command squad models!

  3. Count the sword as a maul. He is so strong that the sword hits with the strength of a maul.
Also what legs did you use for your character.

    2. Thanks Kaelo, it is indeed Kharn! As a Chaplain he needs to have a Crozius otherwise it's just not right! ;)

    1. Thanks Aveinus! I love the contemptor models and was keen to pose them in a way that looked like they were in the heat of battle and bringing there weapons to bare on some unfortunate sole!!

    1. A good question! I have been wondering that myself! We currently play them with a lower base point cost, which makes them a lot more viable on the tabletop. Instead of 205 for 3, we do 205 for 5. So I would think that something similar would be the most likely outcome. An extra attack each would be awesome but sadly unlikely! What are your thoughts?

    2. That's a good house rule man. Was reading all sorts on the blogs and forums. More wishful thinking though. Easiest fix would be 5 for 205 points. However, as they're meant to be the elite of the finest legion, I'd like to see them with at least 2 wounds. I also thinking something needs to be desperately done about having synergy between abaddon and the justaerin. His rules literally make no sense. He's fearless but they have stubborn, making it redundant really, he's got relentless, they haven't. The only thing they have in common is there crazy points cost. Rant over!

    4. It makes then worth putting on the table!! Otherwise may as well use the standard terminators. 2 days wounds is also on my wish list but would most likely result in an increase in points!! Fearless is a lot better than stubborn and fits well with him but I would like to see Abaddon improved slightly as well, perhaps a fearless within 12" rule! Though he has done well in the battles I've used him in, he won't stand up to well against some of the newer characters!
