Vlka Fenryka are here! finally!! Fenris Hjolda!!!

Finally my favourite Legion has arrived! I am about to drop a bomb on components!!!

So lets have a look at them

Big fan of the compatibility between the Marks. Looking at the one above it does fit with at least the MKIV and MK III.

Do like the grey too.

Then the pads. Fantastic contrast of the red against the grey.

A very good set of components. Now we just need the heads!!!

All in all a great looking release in my opinion.

Thanks to Demetris of FW:
Undercoat with Mechanicus Standard Grey spray, shade recesses with a 50/50 mix of Nuln oil and Agrax Earthshade, Highlight with Administratum Grey and some fine edge highlights with Ulthuan Grey on the sharpest edges. Gold is Retributor Gold, shade with Agrax Earthshade and highlight with Runefang Steel. Red is  Mephiston Red, shade with Nuln oil, touch up with Mephiston Red, highlight with Evil Sunz scarlet and fine edge highlights with Fire Dragon Bright. Silver is Leadbelcher, Nuln Oil and Runefang highlight. Black bits are Abaddon Black, highlighted with  Dark Reaper and then with Fenrisian Grey. Bone bits are Dryad Bark, Rakarth Flesh and Pallid Wych Flesh highlights. You can add some Seraphim Sepia around bolts or vents around the model to simulate gun oil or dirt etc.

Getting extremely excited for book 7 now.

  1. OMG, my loyalists faction are decided! They look exactly like I imagine 30k SW to look!

    Today is a good day!

    1. Looks like dawnstone pinwashed with nuln oil, then high lights with administratum grey. What do you think?

I'm surprised by the lack of heads though.

    2. Looks more like Agrax to me.

    3. I'd have to lean more towards Agrax or a mix of Agrax and Nuln, honestly as well.

    4. I'm inclined to agree on closer inspection. I'll try a mix and see the results. It does seem quite similar to the recipe the bunnies posted in the lead up to Christmas.

    5. Have contacted FW, but they accidentally sent me a guide a long time ago which said Dawnstone with a Nuln oil wash. THe pads were Warplock bronze layered to Runelord Brass. This may have changed though in time.

    6. It looks similar to my Relictors :)... Dawnstone, Nuln Oil and Admin Grey just as you say - but they do a better neater highlight, lol. Yes, I agree, just as they should be for 30K. Great paint scheme... but I would say that, I LOVE grey marines!

    7. Siph, you do the grey marines very well! Are you tempted by SWs?

The trims look like retributor armour to me rather than warplock

    1. So only a modest start then ;) They do look good though.

    2. what are you ordering? Will you use plastic or resin?

    3. Have 60 MKIV Plastic legs, 25 MKII Legs and 15 MKIII legs trimmed and waiting for this day (100 Legionnaires). Of these I have around 40 Torsos already glued on. I am mixing the armours a little bit up on them as some of the images show suit modification like this within the Legion. I have just ordered 30 axes (old Dwarf ones) and multiple power weapons too. After this I will aim for another 20 Breachers and 20 Assault Marines (and all specialist squads).

      I'm VF Ready :)

    4. So it's fair to say, we may see a space wolf themed post very soon!!!

  3. I can't wait to put in my order on payday. Is it me or does the shoulder pad symbol look the same as Ragnar's Great Company?

    1. Hi. It does look really similar. Not sure if intentional or not.

  4. These look amazing, actual space Vikings! Can't wait to see the helmets... I love the dark grey, I'd probably go even darker. Drake, that's a REDICULOUS amount of boots on the ground, trying to get there with me Iron Hands... But so expensive, and I want them all to have bionic right arms from FW's Iron Hands MKIII Tac Squad. Just don't have $1000.00 US to spend on just bodies, and they'd only be the new heavy support weapons, no Tacs or Tac Supports yet.... YIKES!!

    1. Hey Keith. Bloody hell! That's a lot of right hands. Shame they aren't sold individually!
Yeah with Legions I feel that they need to represent a horde of Space Marines to get the proper feel. 40 are Despoilers, 20 are Heavy support and 20 Tactical support. 20 others are unassigned yet.

  5. Not a fan of the shoulder pad mainly because of the Legion symbol, surely it should have been The Wolf that Stalks the Stars?

    1. It's pretty much the original rogue trader symbol.

  6. It's not the rogue trader symbol (google that, it's very different, they have a guy with that painted on his shoulder in warhamner world at the moment in fact), it looks most like the pictures in collected visions, which is what I was hoping, and which looks pretty much the same as Ragnar's great company but red rather than black.
I've been waiting for this, got 60 marines stuck yogether and waiting for these shoulder pads. Will disperse some through the squads that have already been painted too.

    1. Ps remember, this is just the legion symbol, each company would have had their own symbol too. During the heresy there seemed to be much more variation between a legions companies than there is between a chapters companies in 40k. I.e use whatever you want, there are no rules :-)

    2. Hi Dave. Yeah I am really intrigued with how they are going to play this. . . . All the art work since Index Astartes has shown off a red wolfs head on grey. Even the recent FW art of a standard MKII Legionnaire showed a red wolf's head shoulder pad. Looking at the newly painted ones on FW; the other pad has either pack or personal markings. I do hope they have not decided to mess around with this and instead decide to do something else which represents the Great Companies allegiance. Or just decide to say "they didn't have company specific shoulder markings"

  7. I'm definitely going to get a few of the chest pieces so I can put together a pack; The Howl of the Hearth World. The watch pack sent to Terra to keep an eye on Dorn. The Fists are the army I'm building for the Heresy but as a 40k Wolf player (I don't own Thunderwolves...) I have to have at least a pack!

    1. That sounds really cool, if wolves weren't my main force I'd definitely do that. Maybe I'll do one anyway

    2. Awesome idea. Love that story and Aaron's take on the Wolves. "That is not a name", "it is a name, it's my name" awesome.
