Could this be the Plastic Thunderhawk?

Hi all

Thanks to Col. Hertford for this.

Could this be the Plastic Thunderhawk? It has noticeable deviations from the FW design (noticeably the tail fin which is a main part in all existing art.

The two plates on the side of the Cockpit look to be arranged subtly different to the FW one (where one seems to travel along the forward stability wing above by about 1cm and the other which goes vertically down). The possible redesign seems to have them both joining to the forward stability wing.

It looks like the forward Heavy Bolters could also be mounted akin to the Storm Raven.

Wings look sleeker and more dipped too. The forward access ramp looks sleeker and narrower at the top too, and the ramp grips at the bottom don't look as prominent.

We had been told at an event a while ago that it was possible and that GW were planning it, I just prey it is happening now.

  1. Part of me wants this kit to be real. The part of me holding the wallet does not...

  2. Oh clearly that's just a new Space Wolf flyer, the FrostWolfHawk (tm).

My thoughts are that its either a 30k variant of the thunderhawk (since it borrows a lot of design elements from the stormhawk transporter model), but it could maybe be a plastic thunderhawk. Wouldn't be the craziest thing, given the size of the models they're manufacturing now, and the focus on big crazy models.

If the rumors of a plastic warhound are true (seem like a possibility, given imperial knights are just a shade smaller than warhounds), I could believe a plastic thunderhawk was coming too. Would be a hell of a way to ring in 8th edition!

  6. I think the Col. is absolutely right.

It actually looks plastic too, if that makes sense. The dimensions look thinner - resin would need to be thicker to retain its strength.

    Good spot.

  7. Ooh I hope so. That would be an awesome way to end my year of non-spending...

  8. I think it's difficult to judge from this picture... it looks like it's from a FW book by the way it's been done up. Here's hoping it real!

  9. If you look at the cover of Inferno that same flyer appears to be in the back of the image. I thought it was something new but must just be this design.

Note that wing fins and the big gun on the top that marks it as a thunderhawk rather than another stormbird

  10. Cheers for the shout mate. I now see others have joined the dots. Seriously hoping for plastic, but even if it's resins it's still a hobby win. The model was originally designed by Dave Adcock 20ish year ago so a refresh is welcome.

  11. Or it could also be a renewed resin version thanks to recents castings technics.
I think it is weird to have a new kit form GW in sneak peak into a FW book. But I had already proven wrong :)

  12. The shape of the tail, the orientation of the wings, the shape of the sides, the front door, everything looks like the Sokar pattern Stormbird.

So maybe a Sokar pattern thunderhawk.

  13. Or just custodes thunderhawk, or sons of horus...

  15. I think the nightbringer likely has a point, a different pattern of thunderhawk makes sense. I hope it's plastic, papa needs a new flying transport.

  16. I'm wondering too, when will GW begin to expand their HH releases... I mean more than just the 1 boxed game annually in November with HH models. Will plastic HH show up at these HH events? I hope so, as this would increase the hype for new models and allow GW feature more of their products with FW upgrades and show the compatibility between them to newer collectors. I hope they will begin having like 3 seasons a year, 1/3rd the year dedicated to 40K, 1/3rd to AoS and Season of War, and 1/3rd to HH and boxed games / sets / holiday releases

  17. I'm on the fence about wanting a plastic thunderhawk. But then, I've bought a forge world one......
Can we really see them doing plastic when the other is still in production?
I believe it's either a bad picture, or a new varient. The back looks way too bulky.

    1. The size difference between the Sokar and Thunderhawk is quite little relatively.
GW do a Plastic Contemptor and MKIV marines, and FW still sell them too.

Over FW's history, many vehicles started off as FW designs but were eventually replaced by plastic designs. I.e. Drop Pod, Vindicator.

I think now that it is a 3D render of a future Space Marine Super Heavy Flier. Which has very similar armaments to the Thunderhawk - so a Thunderhawk in plastic is my bet. Would make no sense to redesign it for Resin release and I'm sure we would have heard something by this point from FW.

    2. The Vindicator started out as a metal upgrade kit to the old 2nd edition Rhino long before Forgeworld even existed, and I'm pretty certain FW didn't do drop pods before the plastic one was released.

That said, there are other precedents for FW designs joining the main plastic range, specifically the Tyranid Trygon.

    3. The very first drop pod was a forge world one and had 5 marines strapped in, no rules and was no fun to put together

    4. Yes but the first mk2c Vindicator was done by FW.
And as above the Drop pod was Resin first. So was the Contemptor and lots of Legionaire variants that we are now seeing.
First 40k scale Thunderhawk was done by GW in Lead.

  18. If it ever, ever arrives, I pretty much have to buy a plastic Thunderhawk to give GW a thumbs-up. I'll find some way to budget it. It's one of the crown jewels of a legion force.

  19. Perhaps Thunderhawk Sokkar pattern?

  20. If this comes to pass I'll be very unhappy, because I'll probably buy one and then it will sit on the pile of unbuilt models for a few years. These are the problems of an addict without enough hobby time.

  21. it looks like a resin model to me. either that or art for a variant of TH. if it is plastic then we should see a warhound next.

    1. Both have been mentioned in the past at a Warhammer fest that they are capable now.

  22. I'd potentially be interested if the rules are the same. Assuming it's plastic, of course.

I'm concerned it'll either be FW Resin with a significant buff over the classic brick version, or a GW plastic with some weird hybrid rules of the 40k and 30k options, and somehow be super mediocre and still ~£200.

Still. I'll probably get a couple, like the dirty plastic/resin addict I am.

  23. Whatever come sup I'd like to thank the bunnies guys in advance for your coverage. I can't get there, so having the stream to look at afterward is great. Thank you.
