Iron Warriors Legion Plan

Hi All,

I wanted to take the time today to talk about where I’ve been planning to take my Iron Warriors project; you’ve seen some WIP photos of the army, as well as my finished Tyrants, but I wanted to give you a bit of an idea about what the planned list will contain, and photos of the army so far.

My Iron Warriors as they stood just before the Heresy Doubles Event

My Iron Warriors were always planned as a gaming army; I wanted to force that’s relatively quick for me to paint (being a ‘hobby butterfly’, I find my attention doesn’t linger with a single army for long!), and the generalist nature of the Iron Warrior rule set meant that I wasn’t pushed into any particular style of play.

I’d always planned to take my Iron Warriors to 3000 points and then add Perturabo which would take them to 3500. I’ve gotten all the models I need for the army, and am now working on chipping away at painting them all. This is the list I’ll be working towards:

HQ:
Warsmith
Cataphractii Terminator Armour, Combi-Bolter, Paragon Blade, Grenade Harness & Servo Arm
215 points

Elites:
Contemptor Mortis
Two Kheres Pattern Assault Cannons

Terminator Squad
10 Cataphractii Terminators with Thunder Hammer, 4 Power Fists, 2 Chain Fists, 3 Pairs of Lightning Claws, 5 Combi-Plasmas and 2 Plasma Blasters
Spartan Assault Tank with Armoured Ceramite, Auxiliary Drive and a Flare Shield
865 points

Troops:
Legion Tactical Squad
Sergeant with Artificer Armour and Power Fist
9 Tactical Marines with Additional Close Combat Weapons
Rhino Armoured Transport
205 points

Heavy Support:

Tyrant Siege Terminators
8 Tyrants
445 points

Leviathan Dreadnought
Grav-Flux Bombard, Siege Drill, 2 Heavy Flamers and a Phosphex Launcher
310 points

Lord of War:
The Primarch Perturabo
After Istvaan
490 points

Total 3500 points

Since the doubles event, I’ve been working on getting the remainder of my models sprayed up and ready for some more detail – rather than show you lots of pictures of unfinished models here, I’ll leave that for the weekly progress reports. As you can see from the doubles picture, I’ve completed two Legion Tactical Squads, the Contemptor and my Tyrants. I thought I'd show you all a few close ups of some of the units:

Tactical Sergeants

Tyrant Siege Terminators

Contemptor Mortis

And again!

So that's (most of) my painted units so far; I mentioned in my last Weekly Report that I've completed my Warsmith as well as Perturabo and will be posting them up in the coming weeks. Once I've hit the 3500 points mark with this army I'll be taking a little break from the IVth to focus on other projects, but will most likely still chip away at them with units here and there!

    1. It's quite a straightforward one:
The armour is Leadbelcher, Army Painter Dark Tone, then drybrushed back up with Leadbelcher, Chainmail and Mithril Silver.
      Gold is just Retributer Armour
      Black is Abbadon black
Then the whole mini gets drowned in Agrax Earthshade

      Hope that helps!

  3. Looks great! You thinking about mixing in any Iron Circle? Those things are pretty beastly, not to mention cool as Iron Warriors specific units

    1. I most likely will end up adding them down the line... though when I do it, I'll need to add four at once so they can act as the bodyguard unit for Perty!

  4. Anyone get a picture of the events only gear they have this year?

  5. They look great. Especially the Tyrants and Sergeants. Thinking about doing any Breachers for them?
