Today I want to share my finished Ashen Circle. I worked the last days on them and I'm quite happy how they turned out!
Ashen Circle
Serving alongside the Destroyers of the Word Bearers Legion, the Ashen Circle was a unique formation created for a unique purpose; the destruction of culture; learning and faith. These Space Marines were member's of the Legion's original Iconoclast faction, charged beyond the battlefield with hunting down works of false doctrine and those who purveyed it, consigning both to destruction and eradicating flame.
On the battlefield, their task was deemed no less important by their Legion; seeking out those things which gave the foe the heart and courage to fight: charismatic leaders, priests, battle flags and champions. These they singled out, dragged down with the hook-blades of their axe-rakes and destroyed with brutal fervour, often making plunging attacks far in advance of their own lines in order to do so, with no thought as to their own survival.
On world after world the Ashen Circle tore down libraries and churches, parliaments and sepulchres, first so that the Imperial Truth might be set up in their place, but later so that far darker creeds could take root and fester.
Note: Unlike most other Destroyers and Ashen Circle units, this particular unit changed their heraldry to the red of treachery at the time of the Betrayal at Calth.
These guys are the last Word Bearers for a while. I want to paint some different small armies in the next months - the first thousand points XVth Legion aswell as some surprises.
Here's a little teaser on what exactly I'm working next:

Lady Atia

Looking good, I generally prefer the word bearers original heraldry but yours always look amazing. I'm just disappointed that forge world haven't given us rules for Argel Tal, he would look great in your army.
ReplyDeleteThanks buddy :)
DeleteRegarding Argel Tal - afaik he's still planned for the second Ultramar book. After all, he wasn't at Calth.^^

DeleteThat was supposed to be something heartfelt about in the shadow of great wings but a bloody typo rather ruined it.
DeletePoor Argel .... I still hope he counts as daemon prince and will return for the Siege of Terra ... after all, wouldn't it be cool to see Lorgar's visions still coming true, even though it was shown him by lying gods?^^
DeleteLove your Ashen Circle. I feel the need to write some Great Crusade fluff about the cross purposes of a mixed Word Bearer and Thousand Sons task force.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteAfaik the Word Bearers and Thousand Sons did indeed fought atleast one or two campaigns together - one was in "A Thousand Sons" where they fought together with Vlka Fenryka!
Can't wait for squats!
ReplyDeleteMe neither :)
DeleteThe first five will be standard stunties like pictured above, just paint testers. I also have one of the ships - after that I'll have to get a HQ, some more stunty clan warriors and a rapier or two!
How big are the ships Atia compared to say rhino/ land raider? Being a deathskull at heart my orks are eyeing them up and I'm curious of size.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna do size comparisons once pre-orders are up ^^
DeleteCool, do we know when they're likely to go up and any indictation of pricing at all or not until preorder? ;) look forward to seeing what you do with them - your word bearers are stunning.
DeleteLater this month :)
DeleteApologies as I meant to say please but forgot to add, bad nick!
ReplyDeleteEvery since I first read about them, I've always thought the ashen circle are one of the fluffiest units around.
ReplyDeleteThey look great Atia. They look great in red too.
