Horus Heresy: Kratos Review

 Hello Bunnies!

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this kit! It looks great and has convinced me to start a new legion for the new edition, the Salamanders!

It was unbelievably good to built a heresy tank in plastic! The kit went together really well, no hair drying required!! The design of the kit is great, it features 6 sprues. 1 for pintle mounted weapons, this seems like it will be a standard sprue for all the vehicles, as we found the same one in the Spartan and Rhino kits. 1 Sponsons weapons, again this will likely appear in other kits. The other 4 are for main tank. Each part of the tank fits just right with the other parts with strong areas for glueing, plenty of contact points. The floor of the tank settles into the right place without effort and hold in the correct place, unlike its resin cousins.

The weapon options are all present in the kit and some really cool options for each legion or your own legions needs. I went with the melta-blast gun because Salamanders! I added the volkite sponsons, as they look really good and again Salamanders. The Sponsons are fantastic piece of design, a simple twist 90 degrees up and they come off, which is great for transport. This could also work for swapping between other compatible tanks and giving options without the needs for magnets to vary your load out.

The turret is great and again fits together perfectly. Each of the weapon options have a top and back piece to attach to the turret to finish off each gun uniquely, a great finishing touch.

The dozer blade is significant! It’s put together from a huge amounts of parts, the overall effect is great and I’ve glued mine in place as I think it looks cool.

The overall size of the tank is similar to my old resin Spartan, it definitely feels like it fits between the Sicaran and the Baneblade variants both in kit and rules. I am a fan of the design, I feel like it fits with the within the range well. Although in my opinion it is not as awesome as the Sicaran but then what tank is!

It is so good to be getting plastic kits after years of working with resin. It is an exciting time to be playing heresy!

Thanks to Games Workshop for the sample!

  1. Andy, do you feel like you could magnetize the barrels and rear power packs for each weapon to allow quick swap options or are they some how integral to the build structurally?

    1. I think that would be possible, it wouldn’t be straight forward but I’m sure a suitable solution could be found. The power packs attach to top of the turret piece. Biggest issue would be how thin the parts are. Pinning to slot in might be slightly better perhaps. The barrel gets held in place by the top piece and it slots into some round holders. You could probably cut the holders off and add magnets to change the barrel. Hope that makes sense! Andy
