Forging a Narrative: Aeto Ballis

Hey Bunnies!

Something I really enjoy about wargaming, is creating your own stories and narratives. For this quick post I thought I would show a work in progress of one of my own characters - Aeto Ballis!

I started with developing his name. Each legion has different themes and traditions and this comes across in their names. Emperor's Children names seem to be laced with a little Greek and so I looked at name generators online. I took two names, put em together and bingo! A name I felt was noble, exotic and also kinda cool :)

I looked at the Betrayal book and read alot about the 3rd legions doctrines and preferences! Emperor's Children like fast units and had alot of jump packs, this was favourable for me as I had made my Palatine Blades jump infantry and so, a character to go with them was a nice idea. I looked at the bits I had and realised that I had a Palatine body, left over from another pack, charnabal sabres and some Sanguinary Guard bitz left over from the boxset I used for my Blade's jump packs. Boom!!!

I then had a look at my legion Rite of War. If I want to use the Rite I have to take a compulsory Centurion and so I built the rules from there.

I intend to make 6 of my own characters and I will describe Aeto Ballis' background and position in my Millenial in the coming weeks. I will expand on all of my characters eventually and as our Great Crusade progresses I am interested to see which ones will make it A) to the Heresy and B) which side they will take. Factors I will look at include; heritage and how they react throughout the Great Crusade. I am very excited.

So what do you think of my work in progress shots? Please comment below :)

  1. Really nice idea. As narrative is the biggest draw for me of 30k this sounds like an excellent idea and one i shall copy shamelessly when I get around to my legion!

  2. He looks cool! Narrative-wise I can't wait to carve our own mini legends into our Campaigns.

    1. The intention is that they will all be fleshed out on this blog. Would you like to see it as a regular article?
