Mystery Grey Marine

Hey Bunnies

So, I approached Sir Alan Bligh today to ask about THAT mystery Grey Marine we saw at the European Open Day. You know the one right?

Him.

As always the answer was cryptic at best. However, they did show a page from the Conquest book which had the marine and the title 'Unnamed Black Shield Marine'. Now this is me just guessing but Black Shields are another name for Deathwatch - marines who have abandoned their chapters to follow personal missions! That could also explain the names engraved and crossed off on his arm! What do you think guys? Early Deathwatch or something else?

  1. That's a good theory, khall that marine could be deathwatch, but then Garro might be making the deathwatch, i think that because Garro is recruiting one marine from each legion and the deathwatch is made up of different chapters, and I've read that Garro is not a grey knight (James swallow himself said that in december 2012 white dwarf), so the marine could be from one of the shattered legions and he's on a vengeance crusade.

    1. I think that these are separate to Garro. Just a feeling.

  2. Goodness knows, but it'll be yet another thing to sink a truck load of cash into if what we get is anywhere near as cool as that image.

But isn't Deathwatch more for Xenos eradication type missions? Maybe Black Shield are going to be Malcador's kamikaze troops? You know, may never return, hopeless odds missions into the heart of the enemy?

  3. The Black Shields are a minority within the Deathwatch, but it would make sense as the origin of the Deathwatch's practise of allowing Marines with their origins erased to serve as Blackshields. The Blackshields tradition could easily predate the Deathwatch and lead to it's origins, with those of different legion backgrounds finding strength in sharing their diverse ways of war against fellow marines being then redirected against Xenos once the scouring had ended.

  4. Isn't the Death Guard guy, Crysos Morturg, known as the black shield? Maybe he and a few others made it off Isstavan III and are hunting down former comrades

    2. I think you may have nailed it mate. Alan said a character buried beneath Isstvan makes a return. It could easily be him. Leading a rag tag group of Brothers / Survivors from different Legions which paint their armour black.

    1. Dark Angels weren't mentioned on the legion content list for the book. I would put money on them not being in there. It doesn't fit with anything that has been confirmed. This is set during the Heresy. Why would it be pre-Johnson?

  6. Dark Angels. Already shown on one of the earlier posters I believe.

    1. I am 100% sure it is not DA. However, if you have a link to the image I would be happy to be proved wrong. They have previewed Ultramarines from Book V, do you really think they wouldn't have previewed the first legion a bit more?
