Big Shoulder pads are so 2015

The Legend that is "Bone Garland" can be seen strutting with his new Shoulder Pads.

They were airbrushed with Gal Vorbak red base, then Word Bearer red layering and zenithal highlighting from an airbrush. Then a coat of Angron Red was used to finish it off.

Close up of the Martian Ironearth paint chipping / rust technique. I will be washing and streaking from the pads soon.

Throne the new FW paints are easy to use and so pigment perfect!

Corvus black straight from the pot. Smooth silky and perfect.

Top it off with Vallejo Brass and we are up to date.

Love this model. So fun to paint.

  1. awesome so far :) love the Ironearth effect - never used that paint, was it easy to work with it?

also, i recently got some FW metall paints - they are indeed awesome, both for airbrush and normal brush :)
(and the castellax bronze is perfect for Minotaurs or the trim parts for Iron Warriors!!)

    1. Very easy :) just need to give it some time to totally dry.

Ooh Minotaurs with that colour would look great!

  2. I'm finding the FW paints pretty good too. Valdor Gold turns out to be a near perfect match to the gold trim used for the Ultramarines in Tempest.

Your cracked paint/rust effect is great. Ingenious really.

  4. That's pretty awesome with the ironearth used to add texture. Did you use it with chipping paint to help the chips fly off, or are you using it mainly as a method to create interesting texture within the paint?

    1. Hi Greg. I add it with the aim of creating an under paint rust technique. It is straight Iron earth over chaos black. After the oil wash I am going to add some powders to seep from it and wash with White Spirits.

  5. Looking good Drake, almost makes me want to paint my reaver and warlord in these colours. That rust technique is very effective.

  6. Really like the Martian Ironearth idea, though I'd be a bit worried about it flaking off, as I know it's not a tough paint. How to you get it to stay? I've just bought a Warlord so I'm having a look around to see how people have tackled them!

    1. Hi Gavin. Welcome :)

Well, it gives a peeling off impression but it does week quite tough and sturdy at the moment. I will be hitting it with some oil paints and white spirits soon though. Just got to get Garro done, then onto Bone Garland again.
