Sons of Horus 1st Company

Hello all!

I have spent a long time drafting out possible army lists for my Sons of Horus. I wanted to represent a spear tip force, able to get up in the opponents face as soon as possible and beat them into the ground! However I struggled to find a combination that I liked and that felt Sons of Horus enough! It took many hours of making various lists and thinking up ideas to come to the conclusion that I wanted to construct a 1st Company force.

The list that I have now settled on, for a start, is based on a drop army made up of Justaerin, reavers and some fire support. Led into combat by none other than Abaddon and mostly likey using the Black Reaving rite of war. Although Pride of the Legion is a possibility.

HQ
Abaddon and Justaerin x 9 (in Kharybdis)
Master of Signal

Troops
Reavers x 10 and dreadclaw
Reavers x 10 and dreadclaw
Reavers x 10 or maybe 15 with jumpacks
Reavers x 10 or maybe 15 with jumpacks

Elites
Justaerin x 10 (deep strike)
Justaerin x 10 (deep strike)
Contemptor (In Dreadclaw)
Contemptor (In Dreadclaw)

Fast Attack
Xiphon
Dreadclaw
Dreadclaw

Heavy Support
Fireraptor
Kharybdis

The 30 Justaerin have various weapons, 10 have 2 lightning claws, 10 power fists, 10 power axes, 5 combi-plasma, 5 combi-melta, 1 multimelta, 2 reaper autocannons and 1 heavy flamer. It certainly isn't the strongest list however it should be fun to play! To add to the army in the future will be Falkus Kibre and Kalus Ekkadon and I would like a Lord of war but not sure what one fits in with the theme of the army, maybe a Thunderhawk. Horus will be added to the list at points as well, however Kaelo is the lead for the Sons of Horus and as such has first choice over the Warmaster.  Let me know your thoughts on the list.

As you may have seen in the weekly progress report I spent last week washing and building a large portion of this army.

I washed up 20 Justaerin and weapons, 3 dreadclaws, a Kharybdis, a Fireraptor, and a Xiphon. I have managed to assemble the 20 Justaerin and the Kharybdis. The plan for the rest of today is to get the Xiphon done and hopefully get started on the Fireraptor.

The Justaerin assembly in progress. I already had 10 Justaerin, Abaddon, 20 Reavers, 2 contemptors and a Dreadclaw built.

This is where the 1st company is currently up to. Later this week I will begin base coating and then start on the painting. They will all be painted black, including the support vehicles. Look out for a full painting guide coming over the next week or two.

    1. Lol! I'm looking forward to seeing this next to your SoH and LW as well! Going to be a lot of fun!

Typhon is a awesome tank! Do you think it would work well with the drop style? Hard to decide what would compliment the style best!

  10. That is a ridiculous amount of resin/plastic!! Looks awesome though!!
Also any thoughts from people about what tank would suit a Salamanders army? As im planning future purchases and am unsure!

    1. Deimos Pattern Predator Infernus for your Salamanders. Flamers up top and on the sides!

    2. Or the Magna Melta option! Also anything esoteric like Conversion Beamers or the Legion Glaive. They are also an up close army so Vindicators are an awesome shout.

    3. Yeah I think Deimos is the way I'll go to start with!!
Also, apologies, but how many transport slots does a primarch take up? As I cant see any where that says so.
If power armour = 1 slot and terminator armour = 2 does a primarch take up 3?

    4. Hi Andrew. Bulky is 2 models, very bulky is 3. Will be in the Primarch's rules which one applies to them.

  12. Blimey, like many of the others have said that's a lot of resin and plastic in one go. Having assembled 50 tactical and devastators in the past two weeks I was exhausted by the process.
