List Summary:
So I started with a praetor with the Salamanders mantle...it comes with Eternal Warrior so why the hell not? I followed up with 3 troop choices, this is to unlock 1-3 fast attack and heavy support options. Now, Salamanders are a close range army that fight with insane brutality and pack a nasty punch. To me, they are a very specialised force similar to the Death Guard. They wipe planets with 'cleansing fire' instead of poisons and virus, but essentially they are the same. So I opted for a despoiler squad, breacher squad and a flamer tactical support squad. Nice!
Then I have taken a Contemptor with a conversion Beamer (esoteric), Multi Melta (flamey) and a havok launcher (just 'cause) and 5 Fire Drakes in a Spartan (maybe they could hang with big V?).
Heavy support - I have taken a Melta predator with Flamers for soooo much fire! A vindicator, for that close range punch, and a squad of Pyroclasts (MOAR FLAMES!) boom!
Let's not forget big V hisself though...he is coming. He is bringing the purest fires of hell.
I hope you have enjoyed my post 😊
Kaelo
Now thats the army list I want!! Though might swap out the vindicator for a few more firedrakes!!
ReplyDeleteHi Andrew, sorry I didn't email you directly. I hoped you could wait a few days. Some more fire drakes is a cool idea, the legion is slow and hard hitting...terminators and some short range tanks are ideal! I like the Vindicator because it reminds me of an uppercut. Get in close, if it is successful it is devastating but it is easily blocked.
DeleteHi Kaelo, not a problem - when i saw the days of xmas with 2500 point army lists was more then happy to wait for it!!
DeleteRest of the list is exactly what I'm after - I like the inclusion of a Breacher squad!!
Ive also removed the contemptor and praetor and included Cassios Dracos instead as he fills both roles!!
Delete"Fire-breathing lizards"
ReplyDeletethat reminds me on my jetbike, and that i should paint it up lol :D
I'm not sure the Salamanders would use Despoilers - was this mentioned in Vulkan Lives or Deathfyre? I guess pre-Vulkan, yes, but after him, the Pyroclasts seem to fulfil the temper function...
ReplyDeleteIt says in Massacre that they were a legion that got up close. I will find the exact quote for you later and then we can discuss :)
DeleteI think you are talking about Destroyers?^^
DeleteDefinitely don't use Destroyers. Quote:
Delete'At the battlefield level, circumstance as well as natural temperament focused the Legion's tactics on relatively short range engagements, where it sought to counteract enemy numbers by the use of confined area engagement or shock assault' - Pg 119
While it doesn't explicitly say that despoilers are used it is safe to assume that short range engagements would either wholly or partially include some degree of close combat. Therefore a legion as well equipped, with a Primarch as intelligent as Vulkan - I believe chainswords would be carried as standard. Much like Death Guard. Please feel free to discuss :)
I feel that up close and personal was the main offensive of the Salamanders but supported by a disciplined firebase of tactial marines (and heavy support squads) but with tactical support squads (in rhinos) supporting any assault launched - thoughts?
DeleteAwesome bauble kaelo! Can't wait to see a completed Vulkan
ReplyDeleteThat is one pretty bauble!! Awesome job!
