Sons of Horus First Company update 2

Hello all!

I have made some good progress with the Sons of Horus First Company! I have now finished getting the first 19 Justaerin up  to the same standard as I showed in my painting guide.

This was also the very army I took to the Bunnies Christmas get together, the only other model that was in the army was Kaelo's Horus. They were split into 2 squads and both entered play via deep Strike in between 3 of the loyal legions! They preformed well however 3 legions of fire power equals them all dead in 2 turns!

They were great fun to play and deep striking was cool! However given how much fire they took, I am considering seeing if I can get them something to ride in. Spartans would be my preferred delivery method, however they can't take them as dedicated transports and I don't have enough heavy support space available. As I really want to run them as 10 man squads my options are limited to vehicles that fit in the fast attack or Lord of War, Storm Eagles, Thunderhawk, Storm Bird or Mastadon. For the time being I will keep going with the deep strike plan and see if they take less fire with the rest of the army around!

Heres a little sneak peak of what I will be working on the next few weeks. Once Abaddon and the remaining 11 Justaerin are finished I want to add Cthonian symbols to them all. I am hoping the new transfer sheet will be out by the time I get these completed, I do have the old sheet but want to see if the new ones are better!

Merry Christmas!

  1. Frikkin awesome. I really need to get a battle in against you soon Darien! Regarding Transport; Spartan, Caestus Ram and Mastodon are what I would recommend. Would look awesome in SoH colours too.

    1. Absolutely! Should have a sizeable force painted up for early in the new year, can get a game in then! :) the lack of heavy support space is the issue, looking forward to seeing the final Mastodon model!

    2. (Black painted) Dreadnoughts of the first Company can do the heavy support (especially a Deredeo and a Leviathan), while a Stormbird (supported by Storm Eagles and Raptors) would be great for transport and fit very well with the point of the spear fluff :D

    3. I do like the idea of the Stormbird dropping off loads of termies or reavers, like you say very fluffy! I have 2 contemptors for the army and would like to include a leviathan. Unfortunately I am using the SoH Black Reaving Rite of War (makes reavers troops) which states I can have to have more fast attack than heavy support. Which means only 2 heavy support spaces :( I have the Kharybdis and Fireraptor filling these!

  2. These look great. I always find black is an easy colour to paint but a hard one to master...well done!

    1. Thanks! The 'current' sheet is sold out on Forgeworlds website. This, along with the fact that they have been redoing a lot of the transfers for the legions should mean new SoH transfers soon! :)
