Pre-Heresy Iron Hands: Aveinus Kaane

Hello again everyone, I'm back to show you my latest completed project Aveinus Kaane! He will be my avatar for our future campaigns and Captain of the 15th Clan Company, Clan Sorrgol.

Excuse the fingers but this is the best photo I have with decent lighting! :)

The story behind Aveinus will be explored during our campaigns, however, I will tell you that he has only just been promoted to the rank of line captain as the first campaign to feature the Iron Hands begins.

I would like him to develop as a character as the story continues so at the beginning he will be thrown into a sudden and unwanted captaincy. With this in mind my initial version of Aveinus will have the relatively standard wargear of a line captain, but he will have a master crafted sword which he has forged himself.

The sword will have a couple of special abilities which I think will reflect its unique forging and Aveinus's martial ability, but will not make him over powered. The idea is for him to have the ability to be heroic in games and stick a chance against bigger and tougher enemies. I will let you know what these will be when we have finalised our characters. His pose is also designed to make him stand out on the battlefield as if he is about to draw his sword before a combat or after he's expended his last bolter rounds. With most of the sword still being in the scabbard I think it leaves its design to the imagination.

This next picture is just to show how the arms looked on the torso, apologies for the poor pictrure. The arms do not really fit a standard torso so I had to use green stuff to help fill in the gaps where the shoulders meet the torso and the hands meet the arms. To help hide this I scraped away the inside of the shoulder pads slightly so they sit closer to the body.

Once I was happy with the arms I positioned the torso so he was leaning forwards and turning slightly to show the motion of him drawing his sword. To build the kit I used a few forgeworld kits. The arms and helmet are from the MkIII command set, the plume is from the MkII command upgrade kit and the rest are from the Iron Hands MkIII squad.

So I hope you like him, he will have a different model in the future with a bare head and better toys but until then i'm really happy with how he has turned out!

Thanks again for reading,

Aveinus Kaane

  1. Looks great - the combination of all the kits is particularly pleasing to see come together as a cohesive whole!

    1. Yeah I'm really looking forward to having him advance through the campaigns, its going to be cool to build a narrative around what happens to him during the games too!

    1. Yeah I think that is what the group is planning on doing, they may just be for specific legions though. I know King Fluff and Kaelo definitely have things in the pipeline

    3. That's what I thought. Your not going to have an avatar for each legion you do right?

    4. We will be creating our own characters for each legion we do but will only have one avatar!

  6. Looks amazing! I've always got a semi tehcno-Roman vibe from the Iron Hands, which is what I get from this model. Also, it looks great in general! :)

  7. The model and paintjob looks amazing! I'm looking forward to you devolving his background as a character, would be interesting if you came up with some unique special rules for him as well :)

  8. Thanks alpha omega! Yeah Im really looking forward to seeing him evolve as time goes on. The idea will be for him to say take on a warboss and most likely be outmatched but with the special rules they will hopefully give him the chance to win, so he can do something against the odds in games which will be cool to write about!
