FW new releases - Age of Darkness Legions

Howdy Guys and Girls!

Today's FW pre-order is the Age of Darkness Legions book - while not a model release, it's pretty cool as it has some buffs for some of the older Legions, f.e. the Emperor's Children, aswell as more general fixes, and it also has the Ultramarines aswell as the Iron Circle in it.

The Horus Heresy Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Legions is a 131 page hard back book that collects together and updates the Space Marine Legions appendix entries from the first five of Forge World's Horus Heresy books. It is intended to be used alongside its companion book, The Horus Heresy Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List.

Included in the book are specific rules, units and special characters - including the Mighty Primarchs - for the; Alpha Legion; Death Guard; Emperor's Children; Imperial Fists; Iron Hands; Iron Warriors; Night Lords; Raven Guard; Salamanders; Sons of Horus; Ultramarines; Word Bearers; and World Eaters all drawn together for ease of reference whether you are preparing for or playing a game of Warhammer 40,000, or planning the next addition to your collection.

As well as collecting and updating rules from previous books, this volume also introduces a new Iron Warriors Legion unit, The ‘Iron Circle’ Domitar-Ferrum Class Battle-automata Maniple. An advanced and deadly class of Battle-automata, the Iron Circle were created to the Primarch Perturabo's own design.

You will need a copy of The Horus Heresy Legiones Astartes: Crusade Army List and the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook to use this book.

What do you think about today's release? What do you want to see next week? Write us in the comments below!

Update: Didn't saw them earlier, FW also released some new bundles - most of them containing the Legion specific units and Contemptor Dreadnought :)

These bundles all have a little saving, and give you Legion specific stuff and a Dreadnought, pair it up with a box of BaC to get a nice Legion Starter set!

There are also two bundles for non Legion forces:

The Solar Auxilia one would work pretty nice for a Zone Mortalis force!

Last but not least, the Mechanicum one - two troop choices and a Thanatar Calix - pretty cool for starting a Taghmata army!

  1. One day I will grab one of these books, but they seem to keep updating them...

    1. These books are targeted for players who don't want to use their big books. I only had the black books from the Istvaan Collectors Edition, but they were awesome, and really helpful.

I think some of the changes are due to GW's switch to 7th edition, while others are for balancing some of the first Legions (Kakaphoni, Phoenix Terminators and Justaerin for example). Last but not least, they finally added the Ultramarines, aswell as a new unit for Iron Warriors. While they could have waited for Prospero, I think these changes were needed and will make the whole game smoother at the end :)

Speaking about Prospero, I would like it to get the Prospero Legions in their own small book (maybe atleast as CE?) - they said both TS and SW will be rather different than the other Legions after all ^.^

    2. Now that you mention 7th ed and TS, do you think/happen to know if future rules on FW books will be made specifically for 7th ed? I'm asking this because I would prefer to keep with 6th edition, and if TS rules, which will probably have plenty of psychic powers, are made for 7th it might be impossible to play with them in 6th, aswell as future things to come.

    3. Afaik (would have to re-read Retribution) they are already based upon 7th edition. The only changes are the force organisation, that one is still like it used to be. That's why they had to specify the HH combi weapons since the BRB has combi-grav now :)

  2. Any ideas when (or if) a red book will be released for Shattered Legions, BlackShields etc?

  3. So, if I have the black books that came with collectors edition of book three, does this change anything for my world eaters?

    1. I *think* they changed/added some things for the World Eaters too, one of them would be the Apothecary thing. But I don't have the book at hand, so can't check ^^

  4. Have a look at the Raven Guard special rules. They STILL reference the non-existent 'Furious Assault' rule! Pull yourself together, Forge World!

  5. It is disheartening how little effort FW (& indeed wider GW) put into proof-reading their publications. People pay a lot of money for their publications and they are often full of mistakes or omissions.

In a similar-vein has anyone else questioned the rule set for the Herald Consul? They seem rather contradictory in that he unlocks ROWs but is only a support officer.

    1. Yes, he is. That means you have to take an additional non-support officer as your must have hq.

    2. Yep. For example a normal Centurion, or a Chaplain ^_^

  6. These look cool. I will have to pick up the Ultramarines one if and when I comes out.
On a side note: could anyone please give me a detailed description of what a legion veteran tactical squad can take? Combi weapons yea or nea? Power weapons? Limits? Special and heavies? Which ones?

  7. Is it just me, or is anyone else feeling a bit disappointed that for three fridays in a row there have been no new model releases! Also, for a companion book, that requires 2 other books to use, age of darkness i think is still overpriced at £32.

    1. Yep, if feels like the Titan competition is a smoke screen to delay model releases for a bit.

    2. I'm a bit confused, what two other books does it require to use? Did I miss a release or something? I know it needs the Crusade list but I thought that was it.

    3. Warhammer 40k BRB is the second one :)

  8. I really like the new color scheme on the Sons of Horus Reaver squad and Contemptor. I wish I knew what it was!

  9. While these bundles are awesome, I feel like it's a plug to sell more Betrayal at Calth boxes and FW upgrades, which is fine, they are a bussiness. Also, I'm just getting back into Warhammer and the Horus Heresy is better then the best. I've been following this blog for awhile. You guys/gals rock!
