Community Support: Scenery Commisions

Hello all

Just a quick one tonight.

I have been in discussions with a fantastic MDF lasercut scenery designer and I have offered him the community here to do some market research.

What I really want to know from all of you is what scenery, objects, gaming aids etc would you like to see for any of Games Workshops systems? There are so many gaps in the market and so many designers do different variations of the same thing.

I will collate all information and I will send to the designer, who knows - we may just see some get done.

Email me your ideas at Kaelorylanus@gmail.com or hit me or Battle Bunnies up on Facebook.

Please please please respond, it's for the good of the hobby!!!

Stay fluffy

Kaelo!

Battle Bunnies Un-boxing day

Hi all

Today is Boxing Day in the United Kingdom. A day where we lay around dopey and hung over (where once upon a time some bright spark came up with the idea of cutting up all left over Xmas food, sticking it in a frying pan, heating it up and serving it up as Bubble and Squak too).

It is also a great day where we play with new toys:

I got a Vindicator for my Rout, from my Mum.

Kaelo got a box of Tzaangors and Magnus the Red! Magnus will be a one off model as Kaelo really wants to paint it. The Tzaangors will be added to his Silver Tower box for more perilous adventures!

Darien Vasco got 8 Zone Mortalis tiles, taking his total up to 16, and the door bundle set to go with them!
(Getting presents from inlaws today but doubtful to be much hobby in those!)

Atia got the boxset 'Spire of Dawn' (the rat ogres will be used for Blood Bowl), some ebooks (including Garro) aswell as a box of Thousand Sons Exalted Sorcerers - these guys will make an awesome base for sergeants in 30k!

Aveinus got some Eldar for Christmas. A box of wraith guard and a box jetbikes will be the start of a new xenos army for the blog. He'll be starting with the wraith guard  first as they are his favourite eldar models!

So what great bits did you get?

New Puzzle from Forge World

That's right. Now this is something that I have missed this year so far. Thanks Forge World.

So what will it be do you think?

Well we have seen it already:

Merry Xmas from the Battle Bunnies

Merry Xmas!

We hope you have a huge feast, piles of presents, a great family to join you for it all, as well as enough alcohol to stun Leman Russ.

Join us for our Unboxing day tomorrow where we let you know what we got for Xmas.

In the meantime enjoy your family time (like the Emperor did before his family was scattered across the galaxy).

From the Battle Bunnies.

Dear Santa

Xmas as we all know is about asking the man in the red suit about what we want more than anything else. So I asked the Bunnies to make their lists:

So let's see what they want from GW:

Drake Seta: Thanks for the Plastic MKIII, Tartaros, Custodes and Sisters of Silence. They are really appreciated. This year I want Forge World to release Vlka Fenryka heads, Close Combat weapons (axes, Seaxes etc), generic Rune priest and Wolf Priest. I would also like to see another Knight Errant or two (maybe Ltd edition), more Centurion variants which are readily available, Saul Tarvitz (at last to lead the Loyalists in Isstvan III).
I would also like to see the elusive Plastic Thunderhawk from Games Workshop, some Custode Terminators and some additional Sister of Silence options.
I would love a Night Lord mug, Secutarii Legio Mortis transfers, Legion specific templates and Digital Army list creator for 30k.
From Black Library I would like to see Crimson King at last, as well as a book showcasing the Rout trying to get to Horus, more Death Guard (would like to find out what the remaining Captains are up to) and maybe JUST MAYBE consider hinting whether Horus/Sigilite considers trying to contact one or both of the II and XI Primarchs (prisoners in the dungeons beneath Terra / locked away somewhere etc. to at least address that they have been considered if they are still alive as a potential asset or threat if captured.

Lady Atia: 2016 was awesome - especially Sisters of Silence, Blood Bowl, Sylvaneth and the Thousand Sons!

What I would like to get my hands on in 2017:

- The new plastic Inquisitor-Lady and Celestine for 40k
- Another Primarch (either 30k Magnus or Daemon Mortarion)
- Tzaangors, lots of them!
- More Blood Bowl stuff, especially dark elves
- Elite units and special characters for the Thousand Sons in 30k
- Inferno (finally!)
- 10 Titans! Well, atleast Adeptus Titanicus scale titans ... and the Titan's Death
- A novel about the Death Guards' journey to Terra!

Hector Cephas: I have been a very good Legiones Astartes protecting Imperium of Mankind from the armies of the Warmaster Horus Lupercal.

This year, I would love it if Forge World could produce a miniature statue of my primarch, Rogal Dorn so I can recreate the heroic battles that he has led during the Great Crusade and simulate possible encounters with the Warmasters forces.

Darien Vasco:  would like to see:
1) Models for Saul Travitz and Little Horus Aximand.
2) More Knights Errant models, the ones from the Garro stories and some generic.
3) MkII and MkIV jump packs as a separate pack.
4) Plastic Thunderhawk and warhound
5) something awesome that I have no idea I need but need as some as it is previewed!
6) Plastic MkII armour
7) Plastic assault squads
8 ) More Sicaran variants
9) 2 Primarch models
10) All the missing legion specific units

Aveinus Kaane: I would like to see:
1) Models for shadrak Meduson or Gabriel Santar so the iron hands actually have a leader!
2) Blood angels characters and of course sanguinius!
3) Plastic assault squads
4) More exclusive or pre release items at the Horus Heresy weekender as last year was very disappointing in that respect.
5) More legion specific units for the legions, it seems a long time since we've had any!
6) New eldar kits being released such as new aspect warriors and guardians
7) Eldar Exodites from GW.
8.) Finally GW to continue being awesome like it has throughout 2016!

Kaelo Rylanus: I am hoping to see:
1. New Eldar kits for aspect warriors and guardians.
2. Guilliman to come back and secure the imperium in 40k
3. The Ultramatine legion specific units.
4. Dorn.
5. Magnus
6. Alpha toys
7. All remaining infantry to be redone in plastic.
8. Out of scale legion units to be redone.
9. Exodites.
10. More corsair upgrades!
11. Warhammer Quest expansion
12. New Wood Aelf models
13. Wood Elf blood bowl team
14. Time to do all my projects

Castiel Druas: I am wishing for:
1. The Lion
2. Dark Angels Dreadwing models
3.  Farith Redloss
4. Some more Alpha Legion units
5. Alpharius
6. Dark Elf Bloodbowl team
7. Dark Angels Transfers

Spectre would like to see:
1. Alpharius
2. Meduson
3. Sharrowkyn
4. The Raven Guard character models
5. Combat shield models
6. Plastic MkII and MkVI armour
7. Plastic MkIV and MkVI assault marines
8. Plastic Thunderhawk
9. Warhammer Quest expansion
10. Mordheim

What do you think/want from Father GWmas?

Community Question: Plastic 30k, your opinion?

So it has been longer than a year since the Horus Heresy got its first plastic Minis. I think it would be a good opportunity to reflect on this and to also see what the 30k community out there think about the last 13 months.

Resin vs Plastic.
Well an age old argument. Originally I was terrified of GW taking over the range as it was sure to mean loss of detail, mould shadows etc. The MKIV Legionaires had a bigger impact on 30k than the latter MKIII in my opinion. The detail lost on knee caps (compared to the resin raised and protruding knee pads) did upset me a little bit, as it felt like you were forced to edge highlight the edges to make it more visible. There were mould shadows on the rivets too which is never great (one big downside of plastic mounds over resin).
Size differences on the MKIV were very obvious too. The resin plates were quite slim in comparison around the shins and thighs, and is the ultimate reason why Kaelo quit his Emperor's Children for the second time. The head too is also very different in size.
The Cataphractii were very good detail-wise (only minor gripe was the static looking Pteruges), as were the subsequent Tartaros terminators. Absolutely fantastic getting these considering the price of them.
The Contemptor Dreadnought was a lazy mould in my opinion. It would have been good as a boxed game Dreadnought, but when they went ahead and released it as a boxed set I was shocked.
Then MKIII was coming and I was dreading it. It would either have to be a mould shadow heavy model or a multi part legs kit. Thank the Emperor they did them justice. Fantastic. They are extremely similar in size to the Resin ones with only slight re-working, which can easily be attributed to which forge the suit came from.

Effect on the Consumer (me).
So this has effected me in a few ways. I don't know where I stand with Forge World or what further adaptions they may need to make.
1) Currently I want to get some MKIV Assault Legionaires. Issue is the only ones readily available to me are the thin cousins of the plastic MKIV Legionaires. Are we going to be getting a beefed up plastic MKIV assault marine squad from GW? Or is Forge World going to release either an upgraded MKIV squad/or upgrade parts with weapons for the plastics?
2) Some components like the Word Bearer heads look very different when you try to mount it in a MKIV plastic torso. Will these kits be updated?
3) Will we see MKII or MKV kits? I would love to know this. If I had my choice, I would stick a new 10 man MKIV assault squad in with 20 MKII Legionaires, 10 MKV Legionaires, 5 MKI Terminators, Shang & Corswain, and have it based on the battle before The Prince of Crows between the Dark Angels and Night Lords.
4) Breachers? Are we getting MKIV upgrade sets? Will the current Breacher squad on FW get removed and turned to arms, head and shield upgrade sets?
5) the other Legion specific squads like Palatine blades, Night Raptors etc also are looking thin. Will these be tweaked in time?

Overall:
I am very pleased that Games Workshop have decided to do a plastic range. I would also always purchase a plastic generic model over it's Resin counterpart or predecessor now. I do think the Character range is better suited to the Resin sculpts that Forge World are producing as the detail is very superior.
I am hopeful that Forge World and Games Workshop will be more open about what they are planning to develop or what they are designing as I do think currently we don't 100% know where we stand.

What do you think out there?

20th Legion - The Alpha Legion

Hi everyone

Tonight I will give you a quick outline of my next project the Alpha Legion. With a core force for my Dark Angels complete and a gap now until they get some legion specific bits i have decided to make the 20th legion my focus.

The Alpha Legion are going to be a real challenge not only to paint but also tactically in battles they are a really interesting legion. Although I have not finalised an army list yet I already have 30 Tactical Marines and the Alpha Legion contemptor dreadnought.

I intend to make them a fast paced force so will be adding some bikes and speeders to inject some speed, a Head Hunter Kill team as i love the models and think they have some really fun rules. The rest I will decide upon at a later date.

So there you have it my next project please check back in the new year to follow my progress on the Alpha Legion. Thanks for reading.

19th Legion - Raven Guard

Hello everyone!

Tonight I am looking at Raven Guard. You will have seen my army if you are a regular reader, and also how it performed at the Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls. For those who didn't - it won 4/5 games, was fluffy and well varied. All in all a nice list.

This year I am looking at adding only a few models to the RG and only when I get a spare moment between projects.

I am looking at adding some Tartaros terminators. I think these would look super cool all armed with twin lightning claws or Ravens talons - really don't want to spam them though so will most likely go for a mix.

I would like to add another 5 Mor Deythan too as I love the models and they are highly effective on the battlefield.

Finally, I think that a Seeker squad would be quite a fluffy addition even though they aren't particularly good. Also, the Mor Deythans fill the same roll but do it better. May an assault squad instead? What do you all think?

So that will be it for my Raven Guard I think. They are a bit of an out of favour project for me at the moment. That may change in the future as priorities seem to constantly lol

Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas to you all!

Stay warm and fluffy!

18th Legion - Salamanders

Howdy Guys and Girls :)

It's the eighteenth day of christmas - and surprise surprise, I'll talk about the Salamanders today!

My plan was to get a small elite force for Zone Mortalis and beyond - which can also be used as part of a Shattered Legions army. I really love their style - scales, drake-tooths, flames. It was also a great project to practise some sculpting and I really hope to finish them in the future - maybe after my Thousand Sons?

Let's take a look at my planned army list:

Salamanders - 2500 points "Pride of the Legion - Firedrake Veterans"

HQ:
- Artellus Numeon
175 points

- Cassian Dracos Reborn
295 points

Elite:
- Contemptor Dreadnought
190 points

Troops:
- 10 Firedrake Terminators
625 points

- 10 Tactical Veterans
195 points

Fast Attack:
- 3 Jetbikes
175 points

Heavy Support:
- 5 Pyroclasts
180 points

- Deredeo Dreadnought
240 points

Lord of War:
- Vulkan
425 points

The idea is to have a force of firedrake veterans of the Realm of Hesiod, lead by their First Captain. I would also like to add a Rhino and a Spartan for the Terminators, down the line.

We originally intended to write rules for Numeon, but time run short. For now I would play him as Praetor with a Paragon Blade, Volkite Charger, Mantle of the Elder Drake and a Boarding Shield! Hopefully we can bring you a full datasheet for this guy in the new year (similiar to Drake's GC-Era Garro!) :)

And never forget - Vulkan lives!

Lady Atia

Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls - March 26th/27th 2017

Hi guys,

Just thought I would throw up a post here to announce that Warhammer World have announced the next Horus Heresy Throne of Skulls event.

It will be taking place on Saturday 26th - Sunday 27th March 2017 and these events are great fun. Tickets will go on sale on January 2nd so keep your eyes on the Warhammer World website for further details. The page for the event is here: https://warhammerworld.games-workshop.com/horus-heresy-throne-of-skulls-3/

You can download the event pack from the website which will give you details on what is allowed or disallowed. On the most part, it is the same as the previous events however it appears that the Leviathan detachment has been banned for this event so if anyone was planning on bringing a titan legio along will unfortunately be unable to take part in this event. There will be events later on in the year that will allow this though according to the pack.

I hope to see you guys there!

17th Legion - Word Bearers

Howdy Guys and Girls :)

Today we have the 17th - perfect date to talk about the XVIIth Legion!

I started them this January and managed to complete ~2900 points!

HQ:
- High Chaplain Erebus
195 points
- Kor Phaeron
155 points
- Zardu Layak and 2 Bladeslaves
275 points

- Chaplain
145 points
- Terminator Librarian
275 points

Troops:
- 10 Breachers
335 points
- 15 Tactical Marines
260 points
- 5 Tactical Marines with plasma guns
220 points

Elites:
- Contemptor Dreadnought
220 points
- 5 Gal Vorbak Dark Brethren
235 points
- Mhara Ghal Tainted Dreadnought
305 points

Lord of War:
- Lorgar
375 points

I'm actually quite happy with the force for now, which means I can put them on my shelf and start to focuse on my Thousand Sons once I get my hands on Inferno. That said, I still have a few small units to complete:

- 5 Cataphractii Terminators, Kor Phaerons Command Squad
- 5 more Gal Vorbak
- 5 Ashen Circle
- 5 Heavy Support Marines with Missile Launchers

After that, I also have to finish a few more cultists to use as an allied detachment or as Army of the Dark Compliance! And maybe some tanks or fliers in the far future - not sure yet.

You can see single posts and pictures for my finished Word Bearers here:
http://battlebunnies.blogspot.co.at/search/label/Horus%20Heresy%20Word%20Bearers

Hope you enjoyed my little progress report - for the Primordial Truth!

16th Legion - Sons of Horus

Hello!

The Sons of Horus have been the first legion that I have been working on. I have been concentrating on Abaddons First Company and so far and have completed 5500 points.

The army currently has:

HQ
Abaddon
Chaplian

Troops
30 Justaerin

Fast attack
20 Reavers
1 dreadclaw drop pod

Elites
2 contemptors

Heavy support
Spartan
Land Raider
2 Vindicators
Sicaran Venator

Lords of War
Horus
Mastodon

I have a couple of bits to complete to go with the First Company still but for the time being this part of the 16th Legion will be taking a back seat to the Green side! We are aiming to get the Prospero campaign up and running in the new year and to work along side the Wolves we are expecting to see a small contingent of SoH on the scene.

I am planning on a mostly tactical squad based army that I want to be able to turn into Orbital Assault force over time. I would like to be able to mix and match the green and black together easily but still have both companies play with a different style.

HQ
This will be partly dependant on what Inferno brings but I think in the long run I will use Little Horus Aximand to lead them.
Command squad - Dread Claw

Troops
10 tacticals - Drop pod
10 tacticals - Drop pod
20 tacticals
20 tactical despoilers

Elites
10 Veteran tactical's - Drop pod
10 Veteran tactical's - Drop pod

Fast attack
10 Seekers - Dread Claw
Storm Eagle

Heavy support
2 Leviathans - Dreadnaught drop pod each
Fire Raptor
Kharybdis drop pod

I have always wanted to complete a fully drop army and I am excited to get these guys to the table top next year. A fair portion of the above is already built, the challenge is getting it painted! I will be using my airbrush and forgeworlds paints which will hopefully make them pretty quick and straight forward to paint. Look out for updates in the new year.

Happy hobby!

15th Legion - Thousand Sons

Howdy Guys and Girls :)

Today I want to talk about my next Legion Project for 2017 - The Thousand Sons.

I always loved the egyptian feel of the XVth Legion, even before the heresy series came out. A few years ago I read 'A Thousand Sons' and it was awesome - traitors who actually tried to do the right thing? A Primarch sentenced to censure because he wanted to warn the Emperor of Horus' treachery? And of course the Thousand Sons themselves - always walking a path between damnation and duty, always trying to preserve knowledge.

So here we are - years later, we just got new plastic 40k Thousand Sons (who make an excellent bitz box for sergeants and veterans), and Inferno is almost here. Oh, and we got a plastic Magnus for the Siege of Terra - was there any better time to start them?!

For the colour scheme I'll follow the metallic red scheme from Forgeworld (as in the picture above) - actually the same recipe that I used for my Brass Scorpion. Metallic basecoat - lighter metallic zenithals, shadows with a green clear, and several coats of Angron Red. After that, some silver edge highlightes. Unlike with my Word Bearers, I'll try to keep the glossy look - need to experiment with some satin varnish for my weathering and transfers!

I already painted a Consul Praevian in 2015 - I won't repaint him (as he is converted from a few different sources, including plastic and finecast) but he will stand proud alongside the legion's robots :)

Let's take a look at my currently planned starting force - of course this may change a bit in February, as I'll start to fully plan and build my Thousand Sons once I got my hands on Inferno!

HQ:
- Ahriman
- Legion Praevian with 2 Cataphract Automata

Troops:
- Legion Tactical Veterans with Rhino (10)
- Legion Tactical Veterans with Rhino (10)
- Legion Tartarus Terminators, Scarab Occult (5-10)

Elite:
- Destroyer Squad, jump-packs (10)
- Contemptor Mortis Dreadnought
- 3 Rapier

Fast Attack:
- 2 Javelins

Heavy Support:
- Heavy Support Squad (5)

My army will be based upon the First Fellowship - Ahriman's guys, so mostly veterans and terminators, and mostly shooty stuff. I also want to include some psychic controlled robots (painted in blue and gold, as they are automatas without souls), aswell as Destroyers (wearing Kaltaran Crests to mark them as walking dead - you know, it's not healthy to be a Destroyer!). And of course, I'll paint up the big guy himself - twice. Once for Prospero, and once as Daemon Primarch for the Siege of Terra!

Hope you enjoyed this little teaser post - if there is anything you want to see for my Thousand Sons - let me know in the comments below :)

Regards,
Lady Atia

EDIT:

Some concept artworks from Mark Bedford :)
