Leviathan Dreadnought

Hi all,

I wanted to share some pictures of my Leviathan Dreadnought with you. I can see why they're so popular as the kit is a joy to put together (and I hear their rules aren't half bad either!).

The Iron Warriors Contemptor Dreadnought is covered in recessed hazard lines which makes painting them very easy. As the Leviathan is not a Legion-specific kit, it only has flat surfaces on it - queue several hours trying to figure out where to put hazard lines!

My solution was to cover the entire front of the Leviathan with masking tape; I ended up covering him all to make sure that the stripes on the hazard lines were of equal width, and all ran at the correct angles.

After removing half of the masking tape, I had to commit to putting black paint all over the yellow panels - I hadn't tested the masking tape before doing this, but thankfully it all went fine, with only small amounts of paint seeping through!

The Dreadnought before his final wash to make him look mucky like the rest of my Legion

A bit of a size comparison - Leviathans really do live up to their name!

 Puny Horus!

Cheers

  1. Ha ha, looks great and the last words he spoke were "puny Horus" before the Warmaster smashed in his sarcophagus and ripped out the venerable veteran inside...

  2. A simple solution to prevent bleeding of the top color (in this case black) under the tape and onto the yellow... paint the yellow over the taped areas again and let completely dry, before applying the black. Your're basically sealing any bleeding gaps, even minor ones, and if there is any bleeding, it will be the yellow, which is fine since it blends into the yellow beneath the tape. Once you paint the black on, and let it dry, you should get nice clean lines with no bleeding.

    1. Hi Keith, thanks for that - I'll definitely do that next time!

  3. The stripes, and the whole model looks great!
For the stripes, did you paint the black? When masking areas I sponge on the paint in several layers which massively reduces bleeding

  4. The more I see Leviathan Dreadnoughts the more I want one with lots of flame or melta related weaponry for my Salamanders!!
    Top paint job though!

  5. The Hazard marks look great. It's the thing I fear the most for my Iron Warriors (so much so I don't do it on infantry.
