Darko's progress update

Hi guys, just thought I would share with you the latest bits I have been working on. As you may have seen in the Weekly Report I am currently working theough updating my World Eaters and last week managed to conclude the chipping application and blood gore adding.

Here are a few more pics that weren't shown in the Report:

As per my previous posts I will provide a quick explanation as to to how I have acheived these effects. To obtain the chipping for my World Eaters I have used a dark brown, Gorthor, in my case. This is sponged on to the model but with the Mk2 plate it was a bit difficult to get the result I was looking for so I resorted to using a very fine detail brush instead. The blood effect is using the same application texhniques as above but using Blood for the Blood God.

Next up is to work through my tactical marines. Quite a few to do so I have my work cut out!!! But for now thats all I have to show.

What do you guys think? What weathering and/or damage techniques do you guys use? Let us know in the comments below :)

Weekly Progress Report 06/03

Hey guys hope you are all well. For tonight we have our regular weekly progress to show you. A nice bag to show you, and so lets get on with it!!

This week King Fluff has been making a concerted effort to finish his leviathan, with an elaborate scenic base (can you guess the legion of 'Frank') see more completed shots in tomorrow's post.

Darien has been working on 20 Reavers for this Sons of Horus First Company. Progress is going well and hopefully they will be completed by the end of the week! See his update earlier today for more information.

Aveinus hasn't managed to find much hobby time this week but has carried on testing out and practicing applying transfers. This is a test on a 40k vindicator before he starts on his legion units.

Atia was busy this week finishing her Primarch Lorgar. She also started to work on Kor Phaeron, and got a bit distracted from the Heresy after getting her hands on Deathwatch: Overkill.

Tylar has almost but not quite finished Tactical Support squad Grael.
Once he gets some varnish he trusts not to frost and re-bases them transfers and all then he'll be able to say they're done.

Drake has been doing some work on Bone Garland again. He has been doing some heat damage effects on his Volcano cannons and Laser Blasters. Here is a step 2 pic. The post will go up this week. Needless to say, he loves the new FW paint range.

I (Darko) have been working more on his Rampagers. With a little help from Drake I have finished the chipping and blood gore on the squad, just the bases and powder weathering to go!!

So there we go, another round of updates complete. Another mixed bag for you all to enjoy!! What have you liked this week? What have you been working on? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below :)

Weekly Progress Report 28/2

Hey guys so the last sunday of February, crazy to think we are already 2 (almost) completed months into 2016!!! But for now lets concentrate on the work we have put into our hobby this week:

Drake Seta has been continuing with his Warlord Titan Bone Garland. Expect some serious progress this week. He has painted the Brass onto the Gun shields over Corvus Black.

Atia finished her last two Breachers this week. She also made great progress on Lorgar, who shall be revealed in the future.

King Fluff has been swelling the ranks of his mechanicum whilst also working on some Night Lords support units. He'll be holding off posting about the Leviathan now until it's finished but expect some cameo appearances from Night Lords characters and new units in the near future.

Aveinus has been trying to find the best way to apply transfers to his legion this week with Kaelo and Drake.

I (Darko) have been working continuously on his WE update project. You can check out my post yesterday for more details on that.

Kaelo has started assembling his Raven Guard legion for a special 'Legion in a Day' post coming next month. If you haven't seen this feature before then have a look at the first one we completed for Castiel's Dark Angels. It is a fantastic way to get a large amount done in a short time and eventually we hope to have one completed for each bunny involved. This means that Kaelo's Ultramarines are in hiatus currently. Regular readers will see that he has stopped working on them again. This is due to a difference in quality since the new plastic range and updated legion marines. Expect a post from Kaelo early next month looking at the new range and the reason he has repurchased an entire legion...here is a picture of his Dark Furies:

Darien hasn't made much progress with his painting this week due to work and writing the dreadnought guide for Thursday and the Betrayal overview post that went up yesterday! Progress has been made on the rules for Isaac Cordactus, my Sons of Horus Chaplian. Thank you to everyone that made some suggestions! A near final version of the rules will be up soon!

Tylar has been working on two projects this week between trips into the warp.
The continuing project of his buildings and a tactical support squad. This will feature in a post soon.
Look out for more Imperial fists in the coming month.

So, a lot to see this week. Progress of titan-ic proportions and some of smaller size. What do you like the look of this week? What have you guys been working on? Let us know in the comments below

Darko's recent progress

Hey guys hope you are all well :) today I thought I'd share with you all some recent progress I have been making with a few projects. As you are well aware I am currently working through some update works for my World Eaters, and also most recently I shared with you all the goings on with a Mechanicum army I have recently undertaken.

(If you missed that check out my post on Tuesday just gone)

So a little more explanation into what I am currently up to. Over the past couple of weeks I have been working on bringing my World Eaters to a completed standard. This meant rebasing and touching up the models with a bit of weathering, chipping etc.

Most recently I have been making headway on my Rampager squad. Only a few have been worked on so far, but they really do make a difference turning a nicely painted model into a realistic interpratation of a battle-hardened Space Marine.

Here are a few snaps of what I have done so far, but again only baby steps have been made so far:

A lesson I have learned from Drake is that when you are applying such detail to a model that its good practice to have one done, and then use that model as a reference for the next lot. Too many times have I painted one and thought to myself; "that looks great!!" and then proceed to just coat the further models how I please and then have things look mismatched!!!!

As you can see a few scratches and panel damage have started to really bring the model to life. You can see my guide of what I am doing in a recent post of mine for my last update post. To acheive this damage I am using a very light application of Gorthor Brown using a sponge on edges and a verrrrryyyyy fine detail brush for single scratches, chips etc.

Away from the World Eaters, as I mentioned earlier, I have recently adopted a Mechanicum army and have started work on this. Unfortunately I haven't got any further pics to show other than what you saw in the last post:

I am trying to work through these alongside my World Eaters. Some of these are really nice and I cant wait to show off more to you. Really fun to fill in some places that weren't completed before and make them my own.

So a little more insight into the goings on of Darko Thane!! Hope you all enjoyed reading :) just a little thing to add to the above here. Soon I will taking on a new project which I know some of you will be very excited to see, but more will be explained in due course as I am still working on other things right now!!!

Darko's new project

Hey guys, thought I would give you all an insight into what I am working on. Recently I showed you what I am doing in regards to my World Eaters, giving them an update and revamp where they were needed. Now I wanted to show you all a little secret project that I have been working on.

I have been recently sorting out my own Mechanicum army. This is a fun little project to work on as it is a completely different style to painting marines!! This was an army that was gifted to me by a fellow hobbyist and I have been adding to the roster! I haven't been able to take it to the field yet as I was waiting to have this fully completed to be able to showcase it in a glorious (but technical) fashion.

But alas I have been sitting on this for far too long and I have been itching to show it off to you all!! So without further ado here are some pics of one of the units I have been working on:

A Thallax squad to present to you all. One armed with a Photon Thruster, the rest with the standard Lightning Gun choice.

These were very fun to do, I do intend to add more as time goes on. I have a few different units completed and/or being worked on and I will show these in their own seperate posts soon!!!

What do you guys think? What choices and schemes have you gone for? Let us know in the comments below :)

Weekly Progress Report 21/2

Hey guys, another week has passed and another progress report has arrived. A good chunk of progress to report this week from all of us, so without further ado lets get going:

King Fluff has had a slow week this week as he spent the majority of his time on the distant planet of Nor'fukk. He has however nearly completed the scenic bases for his leviathan and storm eagle.

I (Darko) have been continuing on his project to update his World Eaters. I have been working on my Rampager squad and working to add battle damage to the models. Work has been slow and hope to complete the damage and extras by next week and will show worthwhile pics then.

Drake has carried on working on Bone Garland this week. He will hopefully get on to the Gun shields and secondary head this week.

Darien has been working on his second Contemptor for his Sons of Horus First Company. Only the base is left to finish!

Kaelo has been working on the groups communal Solar Auxilia project. This week he has made progress on the Flamer, Volkite and command squad ready to pass them on to the next step. He has also started converting his own Commander who will feature in his 12th Expeditionary Fleet alongside Kaelo and Guilliman. Here is a small update but expect a bigger one tomorrow.

Atia managed to almost finish her Breacher Siege Squad - only the special weapons are left. She also started to do the base for her Lorgar - the plan is to have a 40mm gaming base, a 60mm single diorama base aswell as a big combo-base for Lorgar and Angron. It's not quite finished yet and still needs some Astrogranite.

Aveinus has spent this week working on a new xenos project which will be featured in a post over the next week or so! As soon as he gets paid he'll cracking on with some support marines for his iron hands.

Tylar has been designing new buildings and clipping plastic in preparation. Check the blog on tues for a Building bigger things update.

So, a nice bag of mixed updates from us all. Different projects and different results all around!! What do you guys like this week? What have you all been working on? Let us know in the comments below :)

Darko's World Eater update

Hi guys, hope you are all well. Tonight I thought I would let you guys in on what I have been working on recently. I have been updating my World Eater army over the last few weeks. This was my first ever army and I love these guys a lot. But after a while I realised that these guys needed a bit more done to these.

I firstly have been starting with rebasing my army. By the time the new basing structure of 32mm had come out I had already near enough completed my army. Therefore recently I have been converting all of my models (that are applicable) from 25mm to 32mm. This includes all of my tactical squads, assault and heavy squads.

I have also taken the time to apply weathering and damage to infantry as well. At the time of completion it looks like my army was fresh out of the manufactorum!! So I have been making sure that these guys look like they have been through the wars and earned their war credentials!!!

I have also been applying some gore to the army. These are World Eaters after all!!! You cant have a XII legionary and have him without the viscera from some loyalist dog all over him!

Here are a few pics, showing what I have been talking about above:

Here is my Assault squad. Not totally finished but looking a lot more battle worn.

The bases were coated with sand first of all. At this point I have primed them black using Abaddon Black Air. I plan to take them to a neutral brown colour using a mix of brown layers. I will show this off shortly in a seperate post.

Hard to get a clear focussed picture but here shows off some of the battle damage and blood spatter I have applied. I have done the damage using Gorthor Brown lightly sponged over armour plate edges. I went for brown over a metal wearing colour such as Leadbelcher as it would show up clearly against the white ceramite and gives it a rusted effect too from scuffs.

To get the gore I used Blood for the Blood God sponged over the model. I have varied the level of viscera being worn by the legionaries as they will all have gotten through their enemies at a different rate!!!

I am doing a few units at a time so progress has been slow but I think I will concentrate on one at a time from now. Next task is to finalise the bases on this squad and focus on the next unit: the Rampagers.

What do you guys think? How do you put the finishing touches to your armies? Let me know in the comments below :)

Weekly Progress Report 14/2

Hey there guys, another week has passed and we have just about recovered after a week from the events of another great Horus Heresy Weekender. We have all now started to step up a gear and attempt to get things done for future ideas so lets see what we have been up to this week:

Work continues on the Night Lords for King Fluff, who is now nearly ready to put the finishing colours on his Leviathan. He's also found time to build and prime the first contemptor for his talon also.

Drake Seta has found time this week to continue Bone Garland. He has started putting some trim on the Volcano Cannons and is looking forward to continuing his Battle Engine. He has also re-ignited his passion for Titans and Titan Owners Club is now catching up. Have a look at the club over here: http://titanownersclub.blogspot.co.uk/?m=1

More sketches and building designs have been Tylar's progress. With an edit to the Building Bigger things post coming in the week with a full update to follow.
Watch this space!

Darien has set to work on his second Contemptor for the Sons of Horus. He has plenty of hobby time coming up this week, which should result in the Contemptor being completed!

Aveinus has had a busy weekend but has almost managed to complete his third predator. Just a few more blue lights on the turret to go and then transfers for the squadron!

Castiel has managed to finish off a five man tactical support squad with volkite calivers, watch out for a full post in the near future. He has also started on a 10 man despoiler squad for the Dark Angels.

Atia finished the Tactical Support Squad for her Word Bearers - you can see them posted earlier today. She also started to work on her next models - Breachers and the Primarch himself ...

A nice bag of updates going on over this week. What do you like the look of? What have you been working on? Let us know in the comments below :)
