Sons of Nostramo #6 - out of the eye of terror

Good morning Bunnies.

King Fluff here with another progress update on the Night Lords - however it is more like a 'lack of progress' report this week. I've been suffering from conjunctivitis for the last week, and at posting it's still going strong, so this week I've had to focus on working on things which didn't require a lot of vision. I'm hoping with medication it will start to clear up, my biggest concern at this point is not being able to get everything done for the Bunnies Xmas Bash at Warhammer World on Saturday.

Well what I have managed this week is to set up my gaming table in the new gaming room, I've got a 6x4 Forge World city table and a 6x4 Zone Mortalis board (which once completed will sit together on the table top to create the right height to game at and to aid with storage).

I've also been working on my rebasing on to the new 32mm bases, I'm using scenic bases universally with my legion forces and my Night Lords are based on a muddy battlefield type scheme. I've drilled into the resin bases in order to add more barbed wire and make the bases a little more 3D.

They've had the first coat of Rhinox Hide and now need to be washed with Agrax Earthshade and then dry brushed with a 1:1 of Karak Stone and Rhinox Hide, then simply pick out the details and once the models are added apply the mud (water effects and Rhinox Hide mixed together) .

I've also been working on some of the legion support vehicles - namely a dreadclaw drop pod. This is an old model and needed some modification in order for it to be suitable for serving the legion. I've trimmed off all the chaos icons etc and the screaming faces from inside the main ring on the hull. I've also dremelled out a locator for the new flying stands. Once completed I glued it together and primed it with Halford's grey primer.

Now I was all set to use these in my forces (I love the aesthetic of them and the brutal lines) but I'm now a little unsure, the model being so old really doesn't go together over well, there are some serious gaps and the legs feel flimsy (which would make me twitchy taking multiples of them to any kind of game).

The question I need to ask myself now is do I press forward and fill the gaps and put paint on it or do I go for the modern dreadclaws which are more suitable as they are designed better but then loose the aesthetic I was after.

What do you guys think?
Old is gold or phew for the new?

Answers on a postcard (or just save the postage and drop me a comment)

I'm off now to further combat Nurgle's rot in my eye.

Keep 'em peeled.

Forge World Cityscape finished!!

We have been working on it on and off since April 2013, and it is finally finished.

You can see how much effort we have put into the Horus Heresy and Great Crusade this last year below.

We are aiming to get the other two new tiles shortly to make this a lot bigger.

Click our labels on the left to see how we painted this board and it's ruins.

Sorry to u all for not posting recently. Khall and I are waiting to get Internet at our new place and it is taking some time.

Check back with us Saturday for the weekender where we will show all of Forge Worlds' new releases on the fly.

Forge World Cityscape: Isstvan 3 (Istvaan 3) day 8. Cityscape finished.

Forge World Cityscape Finished. That is right. Khall and I have finally completed our Cityfight / Isstvan 3 board.

The final board sections were finished today. Using the AK streaking kit I streaked the Generatorum sector to give it a dirt and grime running look on its earthy grey foundations.

The weathering powder has been done subtlety and just finishes off the model. We used: MIG gulf war sand, Rubble dust, industrial city dirt (lots) and of the FW range Dark earth and light earth.

Below are each of our completed sectors:

And below are some landscape pics.

Might Scorch damage this one day soon. Was greyed up with Fortress grey to soften the white.

It has been a pleasure to work on this board. As soon as Blake Spence gets some more done we will double its size I think. So now on to the buildings which will sit on top.

Keep following us on Twitter and Facebook.

Forge World Cityscape: Fixing issues

I have sorted my issues: my XP have gone up. Which is nice.

White Spirits have saved the day:
Getting regular kitchen roll or blue roll I added a splash of white spirits to the tissue, before carefully rubbing it over the areas I was unhappy with in circular motions. This lifts small surface layers of paint off and reduces the nasty tide marks.

I also sorted the wash on the white statue base.

More soon.

Forge World Cityscape: Isstvan 3 (Istvaan 3) day 7

Day 7

Ok. Sometimes things go good. Sometimes things go bad. Mixture of both tonight.

Good: Firstly we washed the roads. We decided against spray coating a gloss spray first because we wanted them a little darker. We mixed Abbadon black, Agrax Earthshade, Lahriman and 2 waters together. We then tackled a square at a time. Khall would brush it on with a 3xTank brush size brush taking care not to let it make tide marks. I would follow up with some kitchen or blue roll and dab remove indiscriminately. This left an effect we were really happy with.

Before and after.

Bad: Disaster struck. I decided I wanted to try the Purity seal then wash method. I tried to dab remove some excess and it left us with a horrible look :( putting this down to never having done it before.

We added more water and two drops of fairy washing up liquid to the concoction and carried on on the other half. This turned out a lot better. Fairy works.

I will need to fix this foundation going forwards. Ugghhh. Might try White Spirits. Any tips anyone?

Next foundation was better: but we had not enough water and dried it with the hair drier a bit close.

Good: Third foundation looked a lot better. We covered it nice and quick with the wash.

Then dried from a height with a hair drier. Taking care not to move the liquid around as it tides.

Bad: Then we had some time free so we decided to start the second wash on a board we were happy with. We decided to try the watered down Karak Stone and Steel Legion Drab sand wash, where you are meant to cover sections and dab off excess. We were not too happy with how it turned out (incompetence maybe)

Good: We got our Weathering powders out. MIG: City rubble, Gulf sand and various others as well as the Forge World Black soot, light earth and dark earth. (The two splotches left of the Storm drain are the wash).

This project is taking a long time now. All that is left to do now is to complete the weathering, fix The screw ups, drybrush the craters a lighter grey, do a few bits of field detritus then onto the buildings proper. Can't wait to game on it.
