Perturabo - The Lord of Iron

Perturabo - The Lord of Iron

Hi all,

I wanted to show you my finished Perturabo model. He's the first Primarch I've painted, and I'm fairly pleased with the result!

He was one of those projects that I just couldn't put down after I started him; I ended up doing the whole model in a weekend - which is pretty good progress for someone like me!

I decided that I didn't want him surfing half a Knight Titan everywhere he went - It's an awesome base for a character model, but just wasn't to my taste.

Once I decided that I wasn't going to use the scenic base parts, I ran into the issue that he wouldn't fit on a 40mm base! 60mm was too big, but 50mm seemed to work out just fine.

The hardest part was trying to get him stood at the correct angle - because of his scenic base, he doesn't stand quite level. It took me a long time to get the crate I've stood him on to settle correctly. It seems the Lord of Iron cares not for flat bases!

I'm one of those players that always puts helmets on my models, which means that I rarely paint flesh or eyes - his head was the area that took the longest to get to a point where I was fairly happy; though my Perturabo looks a little more manic than grumpy as a result!

All in all, Perturabo has been my favourite Heresy painting project so far... Can't wait to do another Primarch!

Cheers!

Primarch Mortarion complete.

Here he is. My Mortarion.

I set out wanting to replicate the Above artwork from the Horus Heresy artwork for the Card game. This proved to be quite difficult but I think I got close.

The Book Flight of the Eisenstein described Mortarion as having Brass armour under a Shroud of grey. I googled Brass and got many hits of this colour.

I decided to use a Vallejo Old gold to come close to this colour. The Old gold can look quite dirty especially after washed with burnt umber oil paints and white spirits :)

The cape is an off grey white with a selection of weathering Powders fixed and blended with White Spirits.

Silence was painted with layers of Warplock Bronze, Runelord Brass, washed with Agrax and sponged with Mithril Silver. Nihiliak Oxide was used for verdigris.

The face was a difficult thing to get right and still may tweak it over next few weeks. Used Karak stone, druchi violet and yellow washes to get the pallid sheen to his skin and highlighted with Karak and a bit of admin grey.

I'm happy with the model and am looking forward to his first battle :)

WIP Mortarion

So I was like a child at Xmas. . . I can not lie. . . Mortarion was out of wrapping and having his first (and last) hot bath in 2 minutes of getting home.

So I trawled the internet trying to settle on how I want him to look and have decided. I have taken him quite a bit further than the pic suggests but as it is my first Primarch I don't wanna show it all in one sitting.

I was so so so tempted to sculpt a rebreather on him and only after revisiting Flight of the Eisenstein and reading the a passage early in when he is first seen about him no having a mask, did I decide to go without one. Also Rachel of Forge World's incredible artwork of his face utterly sold it to me. I asked for a photo but sadly I was not permitted yet.

Anyhoo. I aim to get it done on Saturday so let's see what happens :)

Horus Lupercal WIP

Hey all

UPDATED WITH BETTER PHOTOS

Here is my work in progress for Horus Lupercal. Between myself and Drake we have decided on this colour scheme for all my black armoured Sons of Horus models. It is simple and effective, based around the fluff that the armour was shiny. I dont tend to use scenic bases on my gaming models. One day I will do a display version of each Primarch. For this Horus I have used sand and a stone. I think it will still look effective (and not like Horus drags around a bloody-great eagle head everywhere he goes lol). Please remember he is not finished and the camera quality isn't the best...

Horus Lupercal - I have given him a red shoulder pad based on Justaerin artwork. I don't think there is a right or wrong here:
